Good starting point?

DeeRiguer · 21/03/2008 18:47

OP posts:
WanderingTrolley · 21/03/2008 18:53

God that sounds like a great plan.

I have loads of clothes I never wear and I hate the ones I do.

I wouldn't take my shit elegant clothing to charity shops though. They might refuse them and I couldn't face the shame.

3NAB · 21/03/2008 18:53

Definitely quality over quantity.

TaLcYonHerTodd · 21/03/2008 18:55

Yep.....i have bags of stuff that i swear i will wear again.

Takes ages to find a top that fits, it's like a jumble sale.

OP posts:
DeeRiguer · 21/03/2008 19:02

lol wt..
i never thought of that...
imagine they whistled up the street to call you back

quality, over quantity every time, yes

my lot uniform for winter:
trousers..combats, jean type, tailored linen
slim fitting polo necks
shirts and tops that can be smart or casual
few bright colours
scarfs belts etc can change enliven outfit easily
waistcoat
cardi
two skirts above knee one fitted, one swirly have nice legs
good heeled boots
long coat (good coverall too..)

the secret imho is to find what style and colours really do suit you now as you are and use fashion as and when it does too...

some of my clothes are so very old but are well made and can take it and i still want to wear them..

TaLcYonHerTodd · 21/03/2008 19:06

Thanks DR..

My legs are not good above the knee.
I guess i'll just have to try everything on...and be brutal.

Not sure what colours suit me, a little concerned about looking like an ageing goth/hippy.
No sense of style and 15 pairs of dungarees

I've just done this - I have given two items a day to charity for many months and I now have an empty wardrobe + the outfit I'm wearing now and whatever is currently in the wash/ironing pile. Looking forward to starting again with my warderobe........

ScienceTeacher · 21/03/2008 19:13

I did this a few years ago. It was just after Trinny & Susanna started. I bought a full length mirror, and then spent a whole day trying on everything. Anything that was damaged and stained was a no-brainer. Then all my frumpy stuff, and maternity clothes, and anything that didn't fit. I was left with about 10% of my original wardrobe.

It was so nice to be able to see all my clothes at the same time, instead of having to rummage. That was about 5 years ago - it might be time to do it all again.

3NAB · 21/03/2008 19:15

Are you a size 8?

If so, I have a black tshirt from M&S. Washed twice and worn once by my DS when he was a wolf in the year play.

TaLcYonHerTodd · 21/03/2008 19:15

Thanks all, i may start this evening... i do have a tendency to horde it all...on the offchance!

OP posts:
TaLcYonHerTodd · 21/03/2008 19:17

oh, size 8 NAB, i wish.
I was, wardrobe ranges from 8 to 14,
thanks!...fancy some dungarees?

OP posts:
3NAB · 21/03/2008 19:18

I had a pair when I was 21 and loved them!

I have sorted out my clothes and actually do have some size 14 clothes going......

DeeRiguer · 21/03/2008 19:26

yep, just be honest
is it comfy can you see yourself doing what you have to do in it?
does it go with your fav peices?
what colours are you wearing when people compliment you..
a splash of strong colour is snazzy whereas sometimes a whole outfit of it is too much..

i am sahm so it has to be good hard wearing practical and mix n matchable, smart
some of my work clothes, shirts, groovy one off peices liven things up..
i have weight on my stomach but slim mainly and neeed smooth fitting trousers about lower belly level..
it is just being honest
do you have someone kind but essentially verbally brutal to come with you?

i htink i am one of few folks i know who do wear all that is in wardbrobe,
it felt great in the end getting rid of all the dross or great just not me stuff and pre ds stuff that just was never gonna fit ..

TaLcYonHerTodd · 21/03/2008 19:26

Ok, i'm going to make a start getting rid of the old.

I have no sense of style so it's going to be a nightmare

OP posts:
FourPlusOne · 21/03/2008 19:27

I am going to do this after I have my DC3 (in July) and have lost the weight. Have not been bothering too much clotheswise in the last few years as have been back to pre-preg clothes between children (not straight away though!) and have known that I wanted another fairly soon and so have not been getting really nice things, just a few bits to keep me going.

Got rid of quite a few clothes when I grew out of them at the beginning of this pregnancy, and when I am back to normal size I will get myself a new wardrobe. This is my last DC so will get some good quality basics and add to that. Might do what Science Teacher has suggested.

Go for it!

TaLcYonHerTodd · 21/03/2008 19:27

lol...i do squint when i look in the mirror

OP posts:
TaLcYonHerTodd · 21/03/2008 19:30

Oh lord...have got loads of too small clothes with labels still on...just in case i get rid of belly and fat back!

OP posts:
DeeRiguer · 23/03/2008 00:12

TaLcYonHerTodd · 23/03/2008 10:01

LOL..no....made a tentative start but just have a big 'can't decide' pile.

I need someone to do the binning bit for me.
