Going blonde to 'hide' grey?

Today, I met with a 3rd friend (all in 40's) who have either had more highlights or changed from brunette to blonde, stating its to 'hide' the grey. Am I the only one that can clearly see the grey and going 'blonde' makes no difference at all? 😕

just enjoying looking the best you can on a daily basis is a statement of resilience and optimism that should be applauded and not sneered at

100%

Absolutely. So what if people know the reason for going blonde is to cover grey? I couldn't give a rats ass about that. I do things that I want to do and I know look good. Who gives a fck about what anyone else thinks- if you live your life in constant worry about what others think then you're on a road to misery as literally whatever you do, someone, somewhere, won't like it so you will never win that battle anyway so you may as well please yourself.

@NeverDropYourMooncup were you naturally red ? I was deep auburn as a child lightening as I got older and now strawberry blonde but now people don't see me and think ginger any more and I'm livid. I've had ( I fear too many ) blonde highlights so next time will be asking for more copper to put some red back in. Have heard good things about nice and easy copper blonder though. It's so depressing

I used to be, yes (with a thin, pure white streak emerging from my crown and effecting my eyebrow slightly on that side). I've got the green eyes, a million freckles - five million if I step outside in summer with anything less than factor 50 for an hour - and the ability to get sunburn in January.

Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't
Depends on original hair colour, shade and amount of the "greys", frequency of regrowth and how often you have highlights done, how well its blended etc.

My mother's hair just went white rather than grey (as did my nans and seems to be happening to me), plus her hair lightened naturally from a dark brunette to mousy brown over time, so for her going "blonde" with very light highlights worked because the whites blended right in with the white blonde. I can see how honey blonde and grey wouldn't work as well.

But also, who cares?

Do you mind saying how you are managing your hair now? I’m guessing your complexion is very fair and fair/blonde hair must be difficult to pull off?

I'm just tolerating it at the moment, but when I have it cut next (is overdue) the hairdresser has suggested doing tiny, threadlike blonde strands to weave into the gingery layer to lessen the transition without making the artificial colour clash with my skin.

It's also got quite a strong natural wave to it, especially in the damp or, as I usually do, let it dry naturally, so she reckons that using that wave with the colours will work better at mid-long layered bob level and I shouldn't go any shorter unless I actually want a three layered cauliflower head (white top, ginger middle, darker back). Which I really don't!

As long as my hair looks vaguely 'done', rather than just 'there', I'll be OK.

ETA: and a bit of make up helps - brows, mascara (a reddish brown now looks better than black), not a lot else.

People forget about their skin tone. Blonde doesn’t work for everyone.
