Black trousers when your bum basically has its own gravitational pull

Looking for some work appropriate stretchy trousers (are formal yoga pants a thing?!) I do a lot of movement for my work so need to be able to move but also look half decent for when I’m in the office.

The catch is I have a massive bum and thighs in relation to my basically child sized waist - it’s such a huge difference it’s comical or a tad depressing because anything not stretchy is just indecent. Jeans aren’t even worth contemplating. For years I’ve only worn dresses, skirts or leggings. I’m a firm believer in finding clothes that work for your body and not the other way around! For a while big bums seemed to be in and they actually made big bum trousers in small sizes but that seems to have faded out … Ideally something that might balance me out a bit!

Any suggestions ?

Don't have any advice but it sounds impressive! Very powerful!

Maybe something that just fits comfortably and it can speak for itself. If people aren't used to that kind of power it's time they got used to it.

Have you tried training it? Sounds like there is lots of potential there....

WhereAreWeNow · 27/01/2024 23:05

Big bum trousers are still a thing (although that's not how the shops usually market them 🤣).
Next, New Look, Abercrombie and Fitch and Asos all do ranges. Usually called 'curve' or something like that. A&F do some nice looking tailored trousers for small waist/big bum.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 28/01/2024 08:40

these? Probably not far off your description of "formal yoga pants".

IMBCRound2 · 28/01/2024 18:29

ooh those aren’t bad! I don’t know if I need to go fitted or loose or flared or what…. I think just something to somehow balance me out a bit? Or maybe just tone it down a bit for the office 😂

Similar but wide leg which I find helps to balance out my large bum and hips and avoids the parsnips leg effect of tapered leg trews

IMBCRound2 · 29/01/2024 18:41

@LakeFlyPie - exactly this! Parsnips is the EXACT image (well to be honest I tend to go for ham but I’m veggie 😂)

I have much the same problem. I have to wear smart black trousers for work so I wear M&S joggers. The ones with the black stripe down the side. They are smart. The waist is completely adjustable and they have a great stretch. I love them.

DopeyMum16 · 30/01/2024 17:18

Maybe take a look at Winser London miracle trousers ?

minipie · 30/01/2024 17:28

Ooh, the side stripe joggers look good.

OP if you need something more formal, suggest looking at sailor style trousers- they tend to be a good shape for small waist/large bum and thighs.

Mynewnameis · 30/01/2024 17:30

Stripes don't work for me, they go wonky over the bum and make it not a great look.
I'm currently in m&s fleece jeggings in black.

minipie · 30/01/2024 17:33

Also check out the French Connection Whisper trousers (they do a cropped and a full length version)

IMBCRound2 · 31/01/2024 21:27

Those mint velvet ones are lovely! Roll on some sales 🤞

Abercrombie Curve Love?

Also, would it be worth getting trousers altered for a perfect fit?

Barleypilaf · 31/01/2024 21:51

Pricey but I can recommend these ones - the bum size is about two sizes larger than the waist. They are very flattering and good for both work and casual.

For jeans, try Peachay Aviva. They are made for just this issue.

@stardust777 - listening to BBC’s world of secrets atm- put me off that brand for life! But helpful to know some flattering cuts so thank you!

I've got some black flares from Next with an elastic waist. Good to balance out my huge bum and thighs but also don't need a belt or to be constantly pulling them up.

Undethetree · 01/02/2024 20:09

What about Lucy and Yak? These are the Alexa trousers. They are cotton so not stretchy yoga material but the waist is stretchy and allows a belt so you might be able to make it work?

They have them in black and there are lots of different boys types modelling them.

I have a similar shape and wear the M&S £27.50 wide leg trousers. To stop me feeling wobbly inside the trousers I wear full briefs with firm control from M&S as they are comfy but keep everything contained.

But sometimes I like to embrace the parsnip/ham silhouette and wear barrell shaped trousers and jeans. Weirdly, it works.

Hello,
Personally, I've always struggled with my body, whether it was my hips or bum or even my chest.I thought that I was ugly and that I should try to be more like those skinny models.Over the years, I learnt that beauty isn't on the inside, it's on the outside and that there was no need for Botox, who I am whether that's a flat bum or wide hips is perfect.Sometimes I doubt that, but your message is making me believe it again.
Thankyou😊 x

Pibrea · 02/02/2024 15:38

I’m the same, I can’t even get away with most of the curve or hourglass ranges! I don’t get it either, big bums are what everyone wants now but there are no clothes for them.
I recently got these from M&S that I wear with a belt but these are smart fabric https://www.marksandspencer.com/pleat-front-relaxed-wide-leg-trousers/p/clp60634528?intid=mobile_app_pdp_share
and these from asos which fit perfectly, they’re not stretchy but they’re a much more relaxed fabric, really wide legged and easy to move in https://www.asos.com/prd/205039355?acquisitionsource=pasteboard

I ended up with a few pairs of black stretch trousers from M&S for work, turned out a few of us (nurses) had bought the exact same ones. Wide stretchy waist and soft fabric and pockets. It feels like I'm in pajama bottoms all day Bliss!
