GREEN- why is it so popular?

This isn't a criticism, just curious.

I do a lot of clothes shopping online - all of it in fact.

Anything in green is always sold out faster than any other colour.
Yet I rarely see anyone wearing green!

I've been looking online at a couple of jumpers/ tops online and in every case the green is sold out in every size even though the clothes were only on sale a week ago! (And I don't think it's a case of waiting for the stock to arrive as I've seen the jumpers in store.)

Which shade?

I Love anything khaki

LunaTheCat · 27/01/2024 10:02

Green seems to be having a resurgence… all shades including khaki … it’s very flattering on lots people .

hexsnidgett · 27/01/2024 10:06

Green is lovely, I always choose it. It's so great it seems to be having a moment.

BaronessBomburst · 27/01/2024 10:08

As someone who loves and suits green, I can't tell you how happy I am! I've been buying clothes and replacing all the worn out items in my wardrobe before the green disappears and we go back to blue, grey, and beige again.

Not khaki or olive.

More mid-greens like moss.

I like a nice warm green (not neon, not grim sludge). Why? Because I think it looks nice as a colour and I think it looks nice on me.

I did hear once an academic researcher talking about colour preferences and buying - I think it was mostly about hat/scarves, I can't remember where - suggesting that the widest preference was for black, but that customers wanting yellow were the most willing to pay a premium for their colour.

CheesecakeandCrackers · 27/01/2024 11:03

It's me, I buy and wear it all but don't live near you! I like all the greens

Floisme · 27/01/2024 11:12

I regularly find that, if you don't want black, greige or a cobalt blue that burns off your retina then green is the only colour choice remaining. I suspect the retailer also orders it in smaller numbers so it's quicker to sell out.

Yes, this. The only non-boring option.

supadupapupascupa · 27/01/2024 11:15

Because green looks amazing on me and it's usually hard to find! So now I see it and buy it quick before it's gone

Afestivechange · 27/01/2024 11:16

Any links to great green items welcomed! I love it and so hard to find.

TTindigo · 27/01/2024 11:17

Which shops are selling green clothes? I don't live close to shops.

I bought a beautiful green jumper dress at sea salt in their sale, and an incredible green jumper at simplybe

I love green, green loves me. Much prefer this cycle of fashion to red/pink/pastels which are not my cup of tea at all.

IlsSortLaPlupartAuNuitMostly · 27/01/2024 11:22

Green-lovers pounce as soon as it has a fashion moment, so they can stock up for the next few years . I also do that with teal, duck egg and cool grey - I can spot them from 50 yards across the most crowded charity shop when they're not in the shops.

I dropped into one when I was in a strange town the other day: must have been two thousand items in there but I spotted a wool skirt the same colour as my bath towels in seconds.

EggyBreadBrekkie · 27/01/2024 11:25

John Lewis own brand of spring knitwear and T shirts etc has a Pine green colour, amongst the other colourways of navy, grey or blue.

Don't shoot me if the clothes aren't to your taste, (they are basic 'staples rather than cutting edge fashion) but it's where I've seen them !

Also, Boden (dare I mention them) seems to have (had?) a green phase and they sell fast.

I love green. Have got a new green coat and green bag this winter

It feels neutral but less boring than black/navy/grey

RosesAndHellebores · 27/01/2024 11:31

I like some greens and have three green dresses. Probably need a green top.

I favour: emeralds and blue/greens. Never bottle (school uniform) and never khaki or yellowy greens.

I'm a summer so pinks, blues, lilacs and mauve all work. Bright or Heathery.

Riverlee · 27/01/2024 11:34

Went into Next and there was alot of green. What surprised me was that it was more of an autumn /winter palette rather Spring. It looked like they’d mixed their seasons up.

crosstalk · 27/01/2024 11:37

Green lover here. And for some of us the blue greens aren't right whereas the yellow greens are, so I'm happy to see I'm provided for. The colour also tends to be kinder than blue for older people ... while still looking sensational on younger.

geoger · 27/01/2024 11:44

Another green lover here…..I’ve worn green for the past 20 years - it’s my go to colour for everything - even my university ball dresses all those years ago were green. I love a bright green, emerald green and im a massive fan of teal. It’s such a cheerful and distinctive colour to wear plus it suits my colouring much more than black/grey/camel. I also love a cobalt blue if I can’t find what I want in green

Sgtmajormummy · 27/01/2024 13:57

I’ve discovered late in life that light greens like mint and fern suit me. Before I was all for Black Watch Tartan shades.

If you look at online shops, they often do one warm colour option (reds or yellows) and one cool. Previously that cool was lilac (really bad on me) now it’s green.

Same.

MustardGreenAndPlum · 27/01/2024 14:05

What do you wear with green? I have a moss green skirt which sits in my wardrobe as I only wear black jumpers with it. And ignore my user name!

Floisme · 27/01/2024 14:10

I think green is one of the most versatile colours around, although it can depend a bit on the shade - look at nature!
