GREEN- why is it so popular?

This isn't a criticism, just curious.

I do a lot of clothes shopping online - all of it in fact.

Anything in green is always sold out faster than any other colour.
Yet I rarely see anyone wearing green!

I've been looking online at a couple of jumpers/ tops online and in every case the green is sold out in every size even though the clothes were only on sale a week ago! (And I don't think it's a case of waiting for the stock to arrive as I've seen the jumpers in store.)

OP posts:

I love a pea green top, it goes well with my colouring and makes me feel confident. Can never get anything in my size though as it does always sell out fast.

RedRosie · 27/01/2024 14:17

It doesn't suit me although I love it ... but I have an absolutely beautiful red-headed niece in her twenties, who looks beyond sensational in most greens. So I'm stocking up on green accessories as presents.

Mary46 · 27/01/2024 19:10

Love greens too easy to match up. Its popular in interior mags too

Ireolu · 27/01/2024 19:10

I love green. Had a green car, green in wedding colours. Fav colour by far, so would opt for it if available.

Betsylee · 27/01/2024 19:53

I used to wear green when I was younger and suddenly I find I'm enjoying it again. Recently I've bought a green ribbed zipped to from Marks and Spencer, and a green jumper and t shirt from Tesco. Even my husband has commented when I've worn them and friends too, they're such a cheerful cour and I feel happy when wearing them. Also bought a khaki t shirt to wear with leggings for chilling at home.

I usually choose blues but its a nice change to opt for greens.

spanishviola · 27/01/2024 19:54

I am loving all the green as it suits me and is one of my favorite colours.

I think green is one of the most versatile colours around, although it can depend a bit on the shade - look at nature!

I've long thought that - what colour goes with green? Any colour you see growing on a stem.

anon2022anon · 27/01/2024 20:00

It's spring. Spring in fashion means some green and pink, small florals and nautical stripes. I haven't looked at Zara for a while, but I can almost guarantee that's what they will have.

ThinkingAgainAndAgain · 27/01/2024 20:07

I love green. My biggest regret is that I didn’t buy a pair of wide leg M&S grass-green trousers about five or six years ago. They were heavy and hung perfectly, and I would have worn them with a little navy cardi. They disappeared as quickly as they came into store and I can still see them in my head.

Mirrormeback · 27/01/2024 20:16

I love green and have loads of green clothes because it really suits me

greengreengrass25 · 27/01/2024 20:24

I don't usually wear green but today I'm wearing a khaki skirt and have a lovely yellow green cashmere cardigan which I really like

MmePoppySeedDefage · 27/01/2024 20:26

Another one who loves and suits most greens. I am so happy about it being in fashion again and have been stocking up too.

I have green eyes and they really show up when I wear it. It's wonderful being able to have a choice of nice green clothes - for so long there was almost nothing in 'green' but khaki, which is the green that doesn't suit me.

YummyBelicious · 27/01/2024 20:28

Could also be to do with Claudia Winkleman wearing lots of gorgeous green jumpers on the Traitors

Oldraver · 27/01/2024 20:38

I have a beautiful bright green (not neon) coat, we call it my Kermit coat. I always get positive comments when I wear it

Oldraver · 27/01/2024 20:42

The family say they can always see me in a crowd

Green-lovers pounce as soon as it has a fashion moment, so they can stock up for the next few years . I also do that with teal, duck egg and cool grey - I can spot them from 50 yards across the most crowded charity shop when they're not in the shops.

I dropped into one when I was in a strange town the other day: must have been two thousand items in there but I spotted a wool skirt the same colour as my bath towels in seconds.

This. I love nearly all greens but usually you can't find green clothes, so I'm now buying everything I can! Colours in fashion go in cycles, you probably only notice if there's a lot of a colour you either love, or hate.

Garlicnaan · 27/01/2024 20:48

It's on trend (or was), easy to wear for a lot of paler people (ie northern European white people which make up most of the population), and is a stand out colour without it being too in your face.

OldBeyondMyYears · 27/01/2024 21:02

I'd say that at least 50% of my clothes are green (darker/mossy shades and emeralds mostly, with a smattering of olive in the mix!)

This has always been the case, and I hadn't realised that green was 'in', so I'm happy to finally be on trend 👌🏻 It's taken 60 years...but still 🤣

Londontown12 · 28/01/2024 10:04

I love green and I always wear it !
Recently I’ve noticed because of the cowboy copper hair trend more girls are wearing green as well ! X

LlynTegid · 28/01/2024 10:23

Anyone who avoids certain colours because it could be interpreted as expressing a sporting or even political allegiance can wear green. Black is not the new black, red or blue a potential expression of allegiance (such as in North London), and grey can be dull or just look awful.

Tell me you're not Scottish without telling me you're not Scottish.

Oh don't be ridiculous. I was born in Scotland, have lived in Scotland all my life. The small minded sectarian nonsense you are referring to has nothing to do with anyone apart from people who buy into small minded sectarian nonsense.

You're right of course that this is an issue that only matters to a tiny number of idiots and I'm sure that only a small minority of Glasgow women have ever thought "better not buy a green frock just in case".

But you've got to admit that suggesting that women routinely choose not to wear blue or red because of the football/political connotations and would choose green instead because it's got no negative political/football associations whatsoever is a bit weird. Can you imagine any Scottish woman saying that?

I don't understand either your or the other poster's mindset.

I can't answer your question as I've no idea what you're on about. Although I suppose if someone wanted to avoid red or blue because of Labour or Tory connotations why wouldn't a "Scottish woman" suggest green?
