Have people found this to he accurate? I've measured and the size is VERY different to the size that I'm wearing. I have a few bras in the suggested size in my basket but dithering about hitting buy as it feels like it can't possibly be correct.

Yes but it's really important to have a look at the information about breast shape too to decide what type of bra is suitable, full cup, balcony etc, as bra style really affects fit.

The idea with BOB is all the support comes from the bra band, not shoulder straps. To give the support it needs to be tight against you, highstreet fittings have always used the plus 4 method so they are never going to support correctly. So when you do switch to Bob, it feels insanely tight for a while first.

Cup size also relates to breast volume, so A= 1 inch away from chest wall, B=2inches and so on. If you've been wearing highstreet you may have displaced breast tissue that has been sitting in the wrong place.

So I went from 34C/D to 30H. It took me a lot of research for bra type but once I found a style that suited it was great. I actually need to remeasure as I've lost weight now baby 2 is bigger.

Sorry that's a lot of information 😅 but it's worth looking into 😁

Tbh it’s always v hard to order online - even if I order 10 bras in my exact right size online most of them won’t feel like they fit well.
Any chance at all you can get to a shop and try on a few options? They might not go up to the right cup size but you can try along the “sister sizes” path - eg if you’ve been wearing 36b, and it is saying go for 30dd
try a 34c, 32d, 30dd (for instance. Haven’t checked the size equivalents).

AhBiscuits · 27/01/2024 09:05

I'm not sure of standard shops stock my size. I've never looked that big 😅
I was wearing 38E. I've lost some weight recently.
The 38 was undoubtedly too big, on the tightest adjustment I can pull the band away from me a good few inches. BOB has said 34GG. I'm worried that it will be so tight that my back fat will be spilling everywhere. I'm up for giving it a try though, I have a drawer full of poorly fitting bras.

It was entirely accurate for me although it gave me a very different size to the one I was wearing. It took a bit of getting used to but my boobs looks so much better

Talipesmum · 27/01/2024 10:01

So if your current bra is far too loose, hopefully a tighter band wouldn’t feel too tight. But you have to go up cup sizes to still allow room for your boobs - an E cup in a 34 band is a smaller size “bucket” than an E cup in a 38 band.

If you say whereabouts you live, people may be able to recommend shops with a decent range.

NewYearNewName2024 · 27/01/2024 10:06

@AhBiscuits can't add any more re BOB that the others haven't said. But I laughed as I too went from 38 to 34 GG! If you're undecided (as I was) then it probably goes against the advice but I got some tshirt bras from Asda, something like 3 for £15 and some lace effect ones (still with a cup) and they've been brilliant! Were only meant to be testers but last well and are so comfy... and super cheap!

LentilFaculties · 28/01/2024 14:41

Life changing for me!

The other good one is A bra that fits. You might get slightly different answers from both but they're both much closer to a good fit than the old / m&S style fitting.

Agree with other points made by pp. And bear in mind that the correctly fitting bra will have the underband sitting lower than the one with too big back band which was probably hoiked up too high to try and gain support. This will already be more flattering. In my experience, bras for bigger boobs tend to have more back coverage too which helps with looking smooth.

AgentProvocateur · 28/01/2024 14:45

I’m a 36DD, but BOB measures me as a 32H 🤔 I’m working overseas at the moment and can’t actually find a 32H to try on. Does it even exist in M&S?

ChangedUserName13 · 28/01/2024 14:48

I found it accurate - but depending on the brand I may need to tweak the size

I was always told I was a 32D .... measured using BOB and I'm actually a 28F - I do struggle to find a 28 unless I'm in boux Avenue as they run small

Whitesapphire · 28/01/2024 14:52

I personally don’t agree with it, it’s just vanity sizing for bras. I measure 28 inches under my boobs but a 28 bra band is painful, so I stick with the classic add 4 inches on method and wear 32 band size, which is perfect.

LentilFaculties · 28/01/2024 15:54

I concede that this might not be everyone's preferred method of sizing. But I really don't think it's vanity sizing! It completely cured my backache! Nobody else knows my bra size and there couldn't be anything less sexy than a big, structural, supportive bra.

Passthecake30 · 28/01/2024 16:10

Worked for me, I was wearing a 34dd and went to a 30ff, no more tugging down the band when it rides up!

AhBiscuits · 28/01/2024 16:34

Isn't vanity sizing when clothes manufacturers make the clothes bigger so that size 14 people can wear 12s etc?
Boob or Bust don't sell bras so not sure how it would benefit them to encourage women to squeeze into the wrong size.

dementedpixie · 28/01/2024 16:43

M&S sized me at 40C but I actually need a 36GG.

Sister sizes of 38E are 36F, 34FF, 32G. A 34GG is only 2 cup sizes larger than your 38E but has a smaller back size.

lindyloo57 · 28/01/2024 17:16

It doesn't work for me I wear a 34 D sometimes DD it said 30 I can't remember the cup, but I couldn't even do it up, and it wasn't because my boobs filled the cups as I always do my bra up first at the front and then twist it round.

Precipice · 28/01/2024 17:21

It might be 'better', but ABTF gives me too tight a band. I typically wear 34, even though my bust is between 34 and 35, so the underbust is smaller and the band is 'wrong' for my measurement. But what of that, where I find no bra far more comfortable than any bra and even the 34 band is something that I'm conscious of while wearing and have on the loose setting?

JennyHumphrey · 28/01/2024 20:01

Typically people should be wearing a band size that is their clothes size +20. I'm a 16 at the minute and expect my band size will be 36. I've got a newborn so the cup size is a joke at the moment.

I can't wait to get back in to proper fitting bras.

Notanotheruser111 · 28/01/2024 20:13

I don’t know about the clothes size plus 20? I’m a size 20 and wear a 34 band size on the tightest fitting.

Paw2024 · 28/01/2024 20:18

It's normal it's a bit smaller if you're more squishy and some people go a band size up if they're very lean
I'm squishy Grin and measure as 36 under but wear a 34

dementedpixie · 28/01/2024 20:34

I also dont match to the dress size + 20. I am a 20/22 and wear a 36 back

Bessica · 28/01/2024 20:37

I tried BOB which gave me a 30F. It cut me in half and made my ribs so sore even though it made my boobs look good! I had to go back to a 34C for comfort.

Sanch1 · 28/01/2024 20:41

I found it a load of rubbish to be honest! Was wearing 38C which was admittedly too big as I'd lost weight. BOB said 32H. Could barely do it up and could have got 4 of my boobs in the cup. Gave up and still wearing my 38C until I can muster the courage to have another attempt at getting measured/fitted somewhere.

mynameiscalypso · 28/01/2024 20:44

I do think that generally, many women are wearing bras that are too big in the back and too small in the cup. Looking at the 'sister' sizes is quite interesting. I'm not sure I'm quite wearing my BoB size but I'm much closer to it than wearing a traditionally fitting bra.

mushroom3 · 28/01/2024 20:44

Just tried it and it gave me the size I wear!

GlasgowGal82 · 28/01/2024 20:45

My BOB size was a couple of cup sizes too big for me. Do you have a Bravissimo near to you where you could get professionally fitted? I think they also have an online fitting service, although I am not sure how that works. They have never let me down though - every bra I have had from their has fitted like a dream.
