Have people found this to he accurate? I've measured and the size is VERY different to the size that I'm wearing. I have a few bras in the suggested size in my basket but dithering about hitting buy as it feels like it can't possibly be correct.

I am another that does not like it!!! I feel
so restricted and though people up thread say ‘you get used to it’ I have to ask why? Why should I get used to feeling uncomfortable. I find it massively tight around the band. Hate it.

lindyloo57 · 28/01/2024 21:04

How can a size 20 wear a 34, I'm between a 10 and 12 and wear a 34 I am bony round the ribs,

Orangello · 28/01/2024 21:38

I'm between 10 and 12 and wear 30 back. 32 is too big and 34 would just flap around and do nothing.

SwordToFlamethrower · 28/01/2024 21:44

According to their site, I'm a 30G or 30GG

I do not wear wired bras as they bruise my ribs. I need thick shoulder straps otherwise I end up with chronic muscle pains.

M&S Had a total of 5 bras and they were all sports bras.

Bra shopping is actually horribly traumatic for me.

Sports bras crush me! I can't wear them all day every day.

I end up so upset and even in tears with bra shopping. I hate the sexualisation of women's bras. I want comfort and style, not torture and sexy.

I hate it all.

Orangello · 28/01/2024 21:46

If the back band is tight enough, you shouldn't need thick shoulder straps - it's the band that should provide the support. If you have GG cups supported mainly bu shoulder straps then indeed pain is very likely.

I'm nearly 47 years old, I know how my body feels when i wear bras. I've tried them all.

They all hurt either on the ribs or the shoulders.

I absolutely DESPISE the bra industry.

So far I've not found any non wired bras in my size online. I've seen lots of crotches and bare arse cheeks though!

Paw2024 · 28/01/2024 22:02

@SwordToFlamethrower they're not the cheapest but here

I also wear Molke for around the house, no wires and comfortable

EffortlessDistraction · 28/01/2024 22:17

It didn't work for me at all, I tried it post-lockdown when all my old bras were falling apart. The band size it gave me was painfully tight (I tried dozens of bras in that size). The cups were vast. I did go to Bravissimo in the end and got an underwire that fitted but still wasn't as comfy as my old M&S bras so I have now gone back almost entirely to M&S but now non-wired ones in the size I used to wear and am much more comfortable. I wear the Bravissimo occasionally for more lift but can't wait to get it off at night which never happened to me before I started the boob or bust thing. It was a complete waste of time and effort.

EffortlessDistraction · 28/01/2024 22:18

Oh and I also tried Molke. That was even worse, wasted time, effort snd money on that one.

Fizbosshoes · 28/01/2024 22:19

i wear a 32 A but sometimes the cups are too big/gapey. I have 1 30B bra that fits perfectly but others in 30B are too tight. BOB measured me a 30D or something like that...but with the bOB method it must be almost impossible for A or B cups to exist?

Notellinganyone · 28/01/2024 22:25

@lindyloo57 - if you can do that the band size is too loose.

Notellinganyone · 28/01/2024 22:28

I still think you can’t beat a proper expert fitting. Absolutely not M and S who are hopeless. Once you’ve worn a perfectly fitting bra you know and can then order online. Rigby and Peller saved my life years ago. M and S measured me as 36C - I was 32 F. Massive, massive difference.

Totally agree. Bra shopping is awful. Most bras are awful
I just don't understand why there are so few bras in a 30 or 28, as these are size 8 and 6, and loads of women and teenagers are this size.
Add in a larger cup size and you are basically sunk :(

I used to be 32F. Measured in rigby & peller. They had some brands that no one else sells in the uk.
I learnt so much from that fitting. The stiffness of the wire is an important factor. How far up between your breasts the wire comes up at the front, and how high into the underarm. And how tut wire should sit only on your ribcage, never breast tissue.

I think I was a 30 when I was younger but they just days but exist where I lived.

Look up the triumph website?

And there are so many non wired now, it's amazing. Power mesh is the trick. Bizarrely primark have amazing non wired bras at the moment. But I'm a 34F so much easier to buy. I have taken in a bra before to make it fit in the back.

Ihatemondays1962 · 28/01/2024 22:55

It didn't work for me either. The band was painfully tight and the cups gaped. I tried a size either side too and still found it rubbish.

This was my experience too.
The band was so tight, even on the loosest fastening, that I could only take shallow breaths and I could fit my fist in the space it gave me in the cups!

PickAChew · 28/01/2024 23:10

BOB worked perfectly fine for me with underwired bras. My ribs have started to object, since menopause, though, so I've had to go back to soft cup or just a bralette when I do wear a bra and very much in the old M&S style sizing. Thank goodness the boob fairy came to take away what she gave me when I had the boys.

lljkk · 28/01/2024 23:19

BoB calculator, I got stuck on the dress size. I don't "know" mine.
Sometimes 8 on hips but 16 for shoulders.

It tried to suggest 32FF to me just now.
I actually wear a 34D which looks fairly 'Battle Axe'

Took me a long time to get used to the 34 Band. It used to reliably give me indigestion.

ShyTed · 28/01/2024 23:19

It worked for me!
I was wearing 34D/36C and BOB told me 30FF. I was like NO WAY but ordered a few bras and omg they were perfect!
Also the clothes size + 20 worked for me as I am a size 10.
My most comfortable bras are figleaves t shirt bras for everyday.

Thank you. I appreciate this. I don't understand what a bralette is though.. how is it different to a bra?

AllTheChaos · 29/01/2024 01:01

JennyHumphrey · 28/01/2024 20:01

Typically people should be wearing a band size that is their clothes size +20. I'm a 16 at the minute and expect my band size will be 36. I've got a newborn so the cup size is a joke at the moment.

I can't wait to get back in to proper fitting bras.

I saw this on the BOB website. It gave me an error message of sorts when I tried to use it, and said to contact them, as I wear a 6-8, but yanking the tape so tight it almost broke got me to 31.5 inches! I do have a medical condition that means I’ve lost a shedload of weight mind you. Still, a bit worried there’s no bras out there for me!

Paw2024 · 29/01/2024 01:15

@SwordToFlamethrower I'm not entirely sure. It seems to cover a fair bit of styles but all non wired
I guess it's to distinguish from the old cross your heart non wired type ones? Grin

Google says it's a more relaxed and comfortable bra alternative with no wires or padding

AhBiscuits · 29/01/2024 05:44

I thought bralettes pull over your head and have no fastening.

OP posts:
lindyloo57 · 29/01/2024 08:49

I can't do it up from the back as I have pains in my arms. I used to be a bra fitter for 17 years, and yes it was the years when you add 4 inches, that how I was trained, but I learned that only very slim and bony ribs when they tried lots of brands on maybe 2 inches was added, on the sizes from around 38 round the ribs, people with more flesh I didn't add anything,

AhBiscuits · 31/01/2024 12:38

I ordered a couple to try as I won't get chance to go to a shop for a while. They arrived yesterday and I'm wearing one today.
The band is snug but not uncomfortably so. The cups looked absolutely enormous, but by the time I've scooped all of my flesh into them they are filled. It will take some getting used to because it has an underwire, which I haven't worn in years, I've spent most of the time in stretchy crop top style bras.
I feel like Dolly Parton, I have to lean over to see my feet. I think I look better, a nicer shape rather than a mass of flesh. I'm apple (potato) shaped and look less so.
Overall, a big improvement.
