Have I been scammed? Are these UGG boots genuine?

Please help me, I’ve spent ages googling photos and just can’t decide if these boots are genuine or not.

I purchased them off of Vinted, paid a decent price for them, seller had 5 positive reviews and was only advertising one pair of boots. I messaged and asked if they were genuine and seller replied yes.

They didn’t post when they said they would and I started to get a little suspicious, I done a little digging and found they were selling another pair of boots - using the same photos - but in a different size. Then I discovered a different profile using the same wording but different photos selling another pair. Both profiles contained the same lady in the profile pictures. I reported my suspicions and they have blocked the account.

Today the boots have arrived. They were packaged well, come in an UGG box, with UGG tissue paper, they do feel like good quality and like sheep skin wool but I just cannot shake off the feeling like I’ve been scammed.

what do you think? Are they real? They don’t have the holographic label inside which seems to be the only difference I can spot to my novice eye. If they are not real they are a very, very good copy.

About 15 years ago I purchased two pairs of Ugg boots from a very very professional looking website for about 70% less than the full retail price. One pair came with two right feet, I tried to contact them and that's when I realised I had been scammed, initially I was devastated and one pair was bought on behalf of a friend. My bank were amazing and refunded the faulty pair and I decided to keep the other as they were a very good copy and good value for what I paid. So ask yourself OP do you like them and if they were fake would you still pay what you did for them.

Fingeronthebutton · 25/01/2024 13:58

Look at the stitching on that outside label, it’s rubbish. Stitching is nearly always a giveaway.

Verv · 25/01/2024 14:22

I dont think they're genuine due to the stitching.
The hologram isnt always a giveaway as ugg only started doing that a couple of years back.

ithinkthatmaybeimdreaming · 24/01/2024 20:29

Exactly. Downunder bascially all sheepskin boots are referred to as UGGs - no-one actually cares who made them. In fact the boots I am currently wearing - very good quality - are branded UGG, but they are not the same as the ones pictured. As long as they do the job, who cares?

Of course it matters if they are genuine Uggs or fakes - no idea who can think otherwise.

OP (and others) are paying for the brand, and perceived quality that comes with it. Thats why copywrite exists

The ones you desire are fakes anyway, and tbh I have little sympathy for those who buy them. Ugg boots and associated brand and company was Australian. What they didn’t do was a trademark protection widely (not as savvy as they should have been). It then actually went on to be a generic term in Australia, so other places didn’t sell under Ugg but they were all called Ugg boots.

So, a big USA company took advantage of this. Went and trademarked the name Ugg, copied all the branding/designs/make of the real Ugg and started selling them and when popularity skyrocketed even started selling them in Australia to which everyone just thought they were buying real Uggs due to same branding and copy. They then went one further, somehow on the basis they were outraged that under 20 pairs of ‘real’ Uggs had been detected in the USA so the small original Australian company they had ripped off was ‘threatening their market’ and took legal action to shut them down. The small Aussie outfit threw all their $$$ at it (facilitated by generous crowdfunding in Australia), but it was a David/Goliath battle and they lost. They still produce their Uggs but not branded and under an unassociated company name.

So, you are in effect, complaining that you have received fakes of fakes🥴. Some may say that’s business, some may say you are facilitating a bunch of utter cunts.

Signed a bitter Australian🤣.

thats interesting

Grimbelina · 25/01/2024 14:45

I though they were fake at first glance: the poor stitching gave it away. They are pretty good fakes though!

Violet80 · 25/01/2024 23:13

@HoppingPavlova that's so interesting I had no idea! Do you know what the Australian company is called now? I'd buy from them in future!

Bit like what happened with McDonald's.

willWillSmithsmith · 26/01/2024 08:05

Why didn’t you just buy a pair from an actual shop?

Why didn’t you just buy a pair from an actual shop?

for many reasons -
wants it cheaper
recycling
(heard of ebay, vinted, facebook marketplace ??)

These are the original Ugg company.

BlackWitchyCat · 26/01/2024 10:23

Mumsnet is such a messed up place. No matter what the op is posting about there are always a few people making them feel shit about themselves.

If the op paid £150 for fake boots can you not see why she would be annoyed? If she had paid £50 for good fakes then maybe it wouldn't matter so much.

Plus the fakes won't last, won't be as comfortable or look as good.

I agree with recycling etc and have bought clothes from charity and vintage shops but I draw the line at ‘brand new, never worn’ branded footwear from unaffiliated sites (I’d never buy used footwear of any brand). I did very naively buy a pair of ‘Christian Louboutin’ shoes online many years ago which taught me to buy my shoes from a shop in future. Or an affiliated or respected website like John Lewis etc

forevercurious · 28/01/2024 08:51

Thank you for all of the responses on this thread. To answer a few points quickly:

I brought from Vinted to try and save a little money. I’ve managed to buy BNWT converse for half of the price - they are still currently selling online for £70 and I got a pair with postage for £30 so I naively thought I’d try with boots.

secondly, yes it does matter if they are genuine, I’m not going to pay a lot of money for a pair of shoes that may not last 5 minutes when worn.

just an update, Vinted have refunded the money and said I can keep the boots.

Great news OP!

MyBlueKoala · 08/10/2024 22:35

I bought some ugg trainers online and the inside label to scan is on right shoe, but i was told its always left foot? Anyone know if this is true?
also label doesn't scan.
The seller said they are genuine! And they look great but the label throws me off

All Google results I've seen say left shoe.

Lovethatforyouhun · 09/10/2024 10:59

Great outcome!
Fakes are good these days but the wonky stitching was a give away.

noorsab · 16/11/2024 13:43

I bought Ugg shoes off vinted. There is a hollowgram and a barcode on left shoe, however, when I tried to scan, it says site cant be reached. The link of the qr code is qr.uggaustralia.com. Are my shoes genuine?

I bought these but now I am doubting they are fake because they fit so tight they hurt even though it’s a size up.

Everything about the label screams fake. Stitching especially and quality of ink.

Thank you, I was hoping it might be a bad batch or something because they do look real when I put them on (compared to my real ones). Will be returning them. Fortunately I bought them through Vinted.
