Have I been scammed? Are these UGG boots genuine?

Please help me, I’ve spent ages googling photos and just can’t decide if these boots are genuine or not.

I purchased them off of Vinted, paid a decent price for them, seller had 5 positive reviews and was only advertising one pair of boots. I messaged and asked if they were genuine and seller replied yes.

They didn’t post when they said they would and I started to get a little suspicious, I done a little digging and found they were selling another pair of boots - using the same photos - but in a different size. Then I discovered a different profile using the same wording but different photos selling another pair. Both profiles contained the same lady in the profile pictures. I reported my suspicions and they have blocked the account.

Today the boots have arrived. They were packaged well, come in an UGG box, with UGG tissue paper, they do feel like good quality and like sheep skin wool but I just cannot shake off the feeling like I’ve been scammed.

what do you think? Are they real? They don’t have the holographic label inside which seems to be the only difference I can spot to my novice eye. If they are not real they are a very, very good copy.

Does it matter - if you like them what's the problem?

Petrine · 24/01/2024 18:43

I don’t think they’re fake.

rainydaysandwednesdays · 24/01/2024 18:54

@CharlotteMakepeace yeah true. You've got to really look in the details haven't you! I don't notice things like that 🧐

MadMadamMimz · 24/01/2024 19:06

My untrained eye can see a difference between the position of the boot pull tag on the back of the boot in comparison with @rainydaysandwednesdays boot.

OPs looks a lot further down in relation to the rounded stitching.

Has anyone got a picture of a genuine sole for comparison?

That website the QR code links to looks well dodgy though?! It's clearly a fake website.

Chaiilatte · 24/01/2024 19:39

They should have a holographic qr code inside .. they don't appear to be genuine from the pics

MadMadamMimz · 24/01/2024 20:04

Thanks @rainydaysandwednesdays!

If it is a fake then they paid a lot of attention to detail. There are a few differences that I can see but couldn't say whether this is due to different sizing, updated design by UGG or just general wear and tear.

Starting from the top of the attached photo:

  1. there is a longer line on OPs design before the triangle starts in comparison to the known genuine.

  2. There is more of the square shape showing on OPs whereas the know genuine has most of the square shape missing.

  3. the triangle is solid on the known genuine but not on OPs.

I mean, I am really nitpicking here.

It’s the Chinese version of the Uggs Website. You can check this by going to Uggs in Uk. Change your language to Uggs in Chinese and the same website is displayed (same domain)

Forgot to add photo. Doh!

Exactly. Downunder bascially all sheepskin boots are referred to as UGGs - no-one actually cares who made them. In fact the boots I am currently wearing - very good quality - are branded UGG, but they are not the same as the ones pictured. As long as they do the job, who cares?

ttattooedlady · 25/01/2024 00:27

I think the lining is too fluffy it does not look like the lining of real uggs and looks synthetic. If you look on Sara mart the uggs on there are fake but are very good copies it's often hard to tell the difference but there are some slight differences in material and positioning of stitching and tabs etc.
To me they look fine and if you like them then that's a bonus. I suppose it's a bit annoying that you probably paid a lot for them and the seller probably got them for a few quid off Sara mart. Lots of Vinted sellers are doing this now.

penjil · 25/01/2024 01:17

Hopefully Vinted will refund your money and you won't have to send them back either.

Then, you can wear them quite happily knowing they were free. I bet they'll feel like the best Uggs in the world then! 👍

Mummyoflittledragon · 25/01/2024 03:31

They do look fake, the stitching is a dead giveaway without even looking further.

mycatismyworld · 25/01/2024 04:48

I'd say they were face. The fur looks synthetic when you expand the photo.

Windymcwindyson · 25/01/2024 07:25

Nobody should be happy with counterfeit products...
Or with being conned either...

Fraaahnces · 25/01/2024 09:46

UGG Australia is actually an American company. They couldn’t copyright UGG because it has been in general use here for eons. (Short for “Ugly Boot.”) Therefore the bastards copyrighted “Ugg Australia” which like Aussie shampoo and Aussie Gold sunscreen, have nothing to do with the Land Downunder at all.

Newmum110 · 25/01/2024 09:48

Fakes I'm afraid but a good fake. Hopefully vinted will refund you. Yes you may like them but when you pay for a genuine product you expect a genuine product.

WhatInTheFuckery · 25/01/2024 09:55

The sole and the label at the back look a bit off to me, your label seems to have too much spacing and the sole on the UGG website seems to be more central?

peachgreen · 25/01/2024 10:38

The stitching on the label isn't straight and the sole is off-centre. Also it's hard to tell from a picture but the label doesn't look like real leather, it's a bit shiny. I'd say fake, unfortunately.

CoupDeTheatre · 25/01/2024 10:58

Sorry to say I think that they might be fake too. How much did you pay for them @

soupfiend · 25/01/2024 11:02

All these people nitpicking about positioning of a bit of sole or stitching or boot pull, I doubt these are exactly the same on each genuine boot either, arent they all made in china anyway?

I wouldnt know if they are genuine or not to be honest so no help there, but just saying that you can get a couple of genuine products and there will be slight differnece between them due to the manufacturing process.

HoppingPavlova · 25/01/2024 11:09

The ones you desire are fakes anyway, and tbh I have little sympathy for those who buy them. Ugg boots and associated brand and company was Australian. What they didn’t do was a trademark protection widely (not as savvy as they should have been). It then actually went on to be a generic term in Australia, so other places didn’t sell under Ugg but they were all called Ugg boots.

So, a big USA company took advantage of this. Went and trademarked the name Ugg, copied all the branding/designs/make of the real Ugg and started selling them and when popularity skyrocketed even started selling them in Australia to which everyone just thought they were buying real Uggs due to same branding and copy. They then went one further, somehow on the basis they were outraged that under 20 pairs of ‘real’ Uggs had been detected in the USA so the small original Australian company they had ripped off was ‘threatening their market’ and took legal action to shut them down. The small Aussie outfit threw all their $$$ at it (facilitated by generous crowdfunding in Australia), but it was a David/Goliath battle and they lost. They still produce their Uggs but not branded and under an unassociated company name.

So, you are in effect, complaining that you have received fakes of fakes🥴. Some may say that’s business, some may say you are facilitating a bunch of utter cunts.

Signed a bitter Australian🤣.

WillYouPutYourCoatOn · 25/01/2024 11:27

@forevercurious they are fake, I'm sorry, just look at the stitching.
