Decent clothes for size 24

I'm fat, and I have become frumpy. I'm less and less convinced that I'm going to stop being fat, but 2024, the year of my current clothes size, shall also be the year that I stop wearing tracksuit bottoms outside of the gym.

Please give me the name of any plus size shop that isn't Yours or Evans!

Physical shops are tricky but online:

Phase 8 (used to have separate plus brand called Studio 8, sadly discontinued)
Roman Originals Curve
Quiz curve
New Look (friend loves it for dresses)
Wolfairy - took a while to get the right size, more expensive but clothing made in the UK.

I've just ordered a couple of dresses in the Next sale in a size 22. They go up to 26. Also, try looking at Tiktok shops. I've ordered some lovely plus size stuff from there, they go up to a size 26-30 generally.

LittleMrsPretty · 11/01/2024 11:36

I like simbly be

also do you have IG as Laura Adlington from GBBO is your size and gives lots of style advice and affordable clothing reccomendations so a hood account to follow for size 24/26

stackhead · 11/01/2024 11:37

H&M have a good basics plus size range
ASOS plus

Physical shops are pants, but online most high street brands carry a plus size range.

Myfirstsecondthird · 11/01/2024 11:48

I am a size 20, but have found Sainsbury (Online) to be really good for a range of clothes.

La redoute is my current favourite but you have to trawl through it a bit. Their clothes tend to be cut stylishly even in larger sizes, which you'll know is unusual.

I like sea salt but you have to watch out for the frump factor a bit if you try head to toe - just do trousers/skirt or a top, not both. Though their dungarees are good.

I have a couple of tops I love from hell bunny (and some trousers actually) but again unless you want to go full on 50s pin-up just pick a thing here and there.

CocteauTwin · 11/01/2024 12:26

I'm a 20 but know M&S go up to a 24 in some styles and they can sometimes be found in stores. I buy a lot from Seasalt, their quality is second to none, but the styles vary from very stylish to very old fashioned. They do a lot of styles in a 24 though I'm not sure if they have them in their shops. I buy online from them as there isn't any store near me. I also second Tu at Sainsbury's.

This is great - thank you! Lots to work with. I do have IG (mostly follow online cooks which, you know, may explain a lot) but don't have TikTok so perhaps it's time for me to dip my toe in. Had no idea Next went up to a 26 online! And yes, love Seasalt but agree that tops and bottoms together can result in sack profile.

All suggested so far, plus Next and Long Tall Sally if you have long legs.

CarterBeatsTheDevil · 11/01/2024 12:40

@Spinet EXACTLY re the stylish cuts. I do still have a shape, there's just a LOT of extra sand in this hourglass (although, since peri descended, also kind of a third bulgy bit round my waist but whatever). I don't want to wear massive baggy things constantly. I want to look as pulled together as I can.

@weaselwords thank you! I am indeed also tall

@weaselwords thank you! I am indeed also tall

I find getting the length much harder at our size but LTS is often too long for me, which is glorious.

Gunnersforthecup · 11/01/2024 16:48

Monsoon go up to size 24. I'm not sure I am quite a 24, but have just ordered these in size 22/24 for £38/39 pounds each, which I thought was a pretty good bargain.

I've become a big fan of Yours - really good size range, they deliver quickly (even with standard delivery) and the clothes quality isn't at all bad - some of the long sleeved tops can be a bit thin, but most are good and I love their jumpers and loungewear!

M&S also good for work-type clothes as they go up to a 24.

I'm struggling at the minute through finding waterproof trousers in a 24/26 of all things - so if anyone finds any...! 😁

Gunnersforthecup · 11/01/2024 16:53

I also got a lovely skirt this summer from Nobody's Child, via John Lewis sale, size 22.

Taking shape have some lovely things. I usually buy from the sale or outlet sections and go down a size or two.

Britpopbaby · 14/01/2024 09:10

Mango have a plus size range.

SunflowerSeahorse · 14/01/2024 09:11

I am size 24 and I love Zuri dresses. They are anything but frumpy. The dress can be styled in 4 ways: loose, belted, tied to look like a skirt, & worn as a jacket, too.

soupfiend · 14/01/2024 09:14

Ive gone from a size 24 to a 14ish

When I think back my aim in clothing was always to disguise, lots of baggy floaty things

Now I think this was a dreadful mistake, I should have had more fitted and tighter clothing, not only more stylish but would have given me some shape

You have an advantage in that you are an hour glass so my advice would be to not be tempted to use vast swathes of material, also get things slightly too small rather than with lots of room in them, I think it looks better

My favourite place to get stuff was La Redoute

delilabell · 14/01/2024 09:15

Agree with Laura Addington she's glorious.

Boohoo have some lovely stuff.
