Supportive slippers?

soupfiend · 08/01/2024 21:55

I need to keep my feet warm, I keep getting white toes and pain, I get cold feet easily

I need something that is sheepskin, I dont like man made fibres

But I have achillies tendonitis and over prononation and dodgy knees etc so in all my shoes I have orthotic insoles and cant wear shoes (or slippers) that dont have a back to them, I cant wear anything that sort of pulls away from my foot

I got some cheap slippers in Asda tonight, little bootie types that look like sheepskin, out of desparation because of the cold. But as Im walking around the house I can feel it pulling the tendons in the centre of my sole and I dont want to cause plantar fasciitus

So I need something with a sort of back but at the same time I found these bootie types really difficult to get my foot into, I need something I can just slip on and off without having to sit down and tug the things on but not something that has no back at all. And these booties are not comfortable at all, too flat I think

If that makes sense.

Yeah I get that - probably Not as bad as they look due to the sort of envelope overlapping bit. I’m really bad for wanting new slippers all the time and I’ve had these 12 months which is some kind of record for me 😂

Edit - sorry OP this was meant to be a reply!

I have plantar fasciitis and it kills me, I got brought some ugg Tasman slippers for Christmas, you can also wear them outdoors, I had them on all day today and the relief was great, still sore but not half as bad and they're very supportive. X

Copperoliverbear · 09/01/2024 23:08

Also I went a size up because of the sheepskin inside.

MessyRaptor · 09/01/2024 23:20

I've got similar problems and gone for fleece lined crocs. Not the most attractive things in the world but they work for me!

mrsfollowill · 09/01/2024 23:31

I've just bought the Chrissie Fit Flops - just over £40 inc delivery in sale- many thanks for all who recommended- got a code for 15% off as a 1st time customer. Live in slippers as WFH mostly but have developed terrible foot pain/plantar fasciitis. I'm making an effort to walk outside on pavements more as it helps but I think these will be much more supportive than my current pair.

Aparecium · 09/01/2024 23:36

I have similar problems and my slippers are Birkenstocks Madrids, with socks in winter. Other Birkenstock sandals in summer.

Birkenstocks are the best shoes I have found so far for my orthotics, as their fit is reliably constant and they have removable insides to accommodate the orthotic. Then ai put the inside into shoes that need them but I don't wear regularly, like wellies and gardening clogs.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 09/01/2024 23:38

I wear Birkenstocks with thick socks as I have the same issues.

soupfiend · 10/01/2024 07:20

Theres a lot of good ideas here, I didnt think about wearning normal birkenstocks with socks

I like the look of those Chrissie slippers Im just very wary of things that dont have a full 'shoe' to them

I don't find my Chrissie slippers fall off @soupfiend but if you really don't want open back style, I'm pretty sure fitflop has done a moccasin style slipper in the past. You might be able to find it on amazon.

I wear Vionic Slippers ( when our new spaniel hasn't hidden them) with a flare up of Plantar Fasciitis. They give almost instant relief. That & foot stretches. They're often on sale on eBay & discount websites. I do love my Fitflop shearling slides too though. They're not bad for Plantar Fasciitis but they don't help treat the problem if yours is caused by flat arches.

Brightclementines · 11/01/2024 10:48

I wear trainers indoors these because of my plantar fasciitis. I have been having pair that I use from new indoors only. They keep me work and can get my feet in straight away. And they keep my feet warm as well. No need for thick socks.

Trickedbyadoughnut · 11/01/2024 13:36

Just to say, I got the Skechers ones I mentioned - they're toasty, very supportive and you can slip them on even though the back is a nice snug fit:

soupfiend · 12/01/2024 06:20

I think they would probably be perfect if they werent synthetic. Are there leather/suede versions of them?

Trickedbyadoughnut · 12/01/2024 10:04

Ah sorry, my fault, I didn't read your post properly - I think Skechers only do vegan slippers.

The Birkenstock Zermatt are exactly what you're looking for, I tried them in a shop, but they're soooo spendy ...

My mum has a Lambland pair that she finds supportive.

Blacknailer · 12/01/2024 23:34

I absolutely love the UGG moccasin style slippers. They are supportive, sheepskin lining, super warm and have a proper sole so you can put the bins out or whatever.
I've bought them for my mum and she loves them too.
£90ish but different styles do go on sale.

Blacknailer · 12/01/2024 23:35

And, not the thread topic but for those who have plantar fasciitis - I have just bought Brooks Adrenaline GTS trainers and they are amazing.

nagnagnag · 19/01/2024 19:34

In the winter in the house I wear thick socks with crocs. Does not look elegant but crocs are amazing for my painful feet.

Just came home to see these updates and I have an update too!

I got the London shearling delivered today Birkenstocks.

V expensive and unthinkable to spend that amount but they are perfect. Had to order a couple of sizes to check so will send back the bigger ones tomorrow

They're perfect.

Another thick socks and lined crocs here. I wear normal socks and slipper socks over them and go up a size in the crocs

coxesorangepippin · 20/01/2024 02:11

Ugg slippers are great

Good sole on them, supportive ankles too

Erdinger · 20/01/2024 05:15

A fellow overpronator and Achilles tendinitis sufferer - I wear Archline Orthotic Slippers. Normally purchase them online as don’t have a stockist locally. I prefer the slip on moccasin type . Warm , supportive and comfortable
