What does your teenager consider stylish?

DS is nearly 14 and hankering after a pair of black and white Adidas sliders. He generally seems to favour an "off to rob the corner shop on my e-scooter" style, while I desperately try to steer him towards surfer chic.

DD is 11 and has a very strange idea of what American teenage girls wear.

Postman chic and off to rob the corner shop have finished me off

DD16: wide leg / baggy jeans with crop tops, necklaces / earrings plus hoody and platform Adidas trainers. She’s already 5’10 (and a size 4/6) so these mean she towers over us. ‘Clean’ Make up, beach waves. strong model / Camden in the 90s vibes.

DS13: plain hoodies in black or white, Nike slim fit joggers, black AF1 . Sometimes a football shirt, always slim fit / too small tees as he’s constantly bloody flexing these days. Favours a fresh trim on the regular, I’ll allow a fade but he’s getting those Phil Foden lines shaved in over my dead body. I miss my baby boy dressed in Boden checked baggies with his surfer locks 😭

Stussy- not sure what that is

Sooo nice to hear some of the style that is out there. Some of your kids sound awesomely stylish. When I see the kids round here in groups I do wonder how their parents can pick out their own child, they all look exactly the same!

Dd17 scours eBay for old Diesel-type clothes. Boot cut jeans, Afghan coats small tops. Otherwise black puffer jacket. Lace tights, short skirts and high heeled knee length boots for going out.
Dd15 wide legged jeans, crop top and either hoodie or black puffer. Thick hoop earrings.
dd13 a bit like dd15 but wants lots of exclusive brands. They also like colourful baggy tracksuit pants. And she likes adidas trainers.
dd 12 in a fortnight is more quirkier and likes to embroider her sister’s cast offs. She also wears hoodies, cargo jeans, tight small t-shirts. I see her being a bit more quirky than her sisters and she is currently trying to crochet herself a jumper of granny squares.

shops they generally frequent urban outfitters, Monkii and Brandy Melville. Dd17 seems to be pretty good at getting these brands off eBay. She says binged and droop are over priced.

i meanwhile shop at cos and M&S!

Vintner and DePop overpriced 🙄

I've never heard of some of these brands so am off to Google.

Yes to remembering my beautiful little boy in the sandpit dressed in Boden and adorable checkered dungarees. He still has the big blue eyes and golden curls but the chubby cheeks are gone.

DS 16 in y12 tends to wear cargo pants or chinos, not bothered from where. Has bought them from Sainsbos men’s section and you really can’t tell the difference from more upmarket brands. Likes hoodies, sweatshirts etc from uniqlo and urban outfitters. Just bought him a tog 24 parka as his hand me down from older DB North-face coat got torn. Not the trendiest name by any means but very warm ! Has a pair clear frame glasses which are quite trendy apparently.

DS19 - Hobo Chic. Dresses himself from the pile of trampled and mostly worn clothes on his floor. Most items given to him by me, his girlfriend, his brother, friends... basically anyone faced with the prospect of being seen with him in public has slung him some clothes in a desperate (but unsuccessful) attempt to smarten him up.

DS18 - The Jock. Expensive sports and workout clothing by day, tight designer duds by night. Has most items on display, meticulously lint rolls everything and cleans his sneakers. Obsesses over things, gets sick of them a month later and throws them on his brother's slop heap.

DS 14 loves his crocs / sliders, Nike joggers or tech bottoms and tech fleece hoodies. Usually wears a football top or Nike tee shirt underneath. He has some slightly smarter tee shirts- hooderich, Boss, and one pair of baggy stonewashed jeans that he wears very occasionally. He's obsessed with his hair, loves all the products, and also wears aftershave all the time. I think it's adorable that he puts a lot of effort onto how he looks to achieve true roadman style! Luckily he appreciates the joy of second hand / vintage (trainers, sports tops, items that are a no no new due to cost).
My younger DS will only wear joggers, tee shirts / football tops and hoodies. But he doesn't care at all what he looks like so he's looks like he got dresses in the dark most days.

I love clothes and have always been slightly left field with my clothes. It would have been lovely to have DC's who shared my love of vintage etc but it wasn't to be. I like that I have one DC who enjoys shopping and is happy to trawl charity shops / Vinted etc with me even though we're looking for very different things.
