What does your teenager consider stylish?

DS is nearly 14 and hankering after a pair of black and white Adidas sliders. He generally seems to favour an "off to rob the corner shop on my e-scooter" style, while I desperately try to steer him towards surfer chic.

DD is 11 and has a very strange idea of what American teenage girls wear.

DS (16) is into "Blokecore" which seems to involve Adidas Sambas?!
After years of tracksuits he now like jeans (massively baggy) and jorts (denim shorts, also massively baggy) He basically looks like his dad did in the 90s!

Passthecake30 · 07/01/2024 20:55

Mine are very cheap to clothe, as not interested at all!

dd 14 wears leggings/jeggings from matalan and hoodies from new look. no make up, jewellery, no interest in showering even!

ds 15 wears joggers from next and basic hoodies with a tiny motif (Nike/Slazenger/adidas) from sports direct.

16yr old DD makes her own clothes mostly. She likes quirky fabric and vintage styles. She also shops in charity shops and only buys new in places like Lucy&Yak or Run&Fly for bonkers dungarees. She is rarely seen without a hat. Sometimes she looks like a librarian, sometimes like my Grandma. Hair is currently blue and she's wearing a knitted tank top and a floor length patchwork skirt. Tomorrow, for sixth form, she's wearing a lurid green suit with waistcoat and boutonniere and Doc Martens.

12yr old DS dresses like a Victorian fop. He likes ruffles, frock coats, a cane and a top hat. Sometimes he wears a Percy Pig onesie to change it up a bit.

Your teenagers just sound amazing!
I bet they have an amazing Mum too 😉

Poppytops88 · 07/01/2024 21:00

Ds 16 will only wear plain clothes with no names/labels whatsoever. Same with shoes, he likes minimal but ethical.

Nineteendays · 07/01/2024 21:02

11 yo ds obsessed with montirex as are all his year group in school. Seems to be the uniform of the year 7s where we live. Other than that, he likes Nike, north face and adidas. Lives in joggers and t shirts. It is a massive chore to get him into jeans and a smart t shirt for a family meal out.

Chipsahoy · 07/01/2024 21:02

Ds almost 16, lives in black joggers/ track pants, T-shirts and hoodies. He doesn’t have to wear uniform, just something dark, so he wears the same stuff every day.it’s of hoodies in dark colours.
DS almost 13 wears joggers T-shirts and hoodies. He refuses jeans…

fatandhappy47 · 07/01/2024 21:03

DS(15). Tracksuits (Nike tech fleece) mostly grey , white T-shirt

Vettrianofan · 07/01/2024 21:05

He wears black black and black! Loves his black metal.

TheOnlyAletheia · 07/01/2024 21:06

DS 18 is unbothered by brands and is mainly in cargoes, hoodies and Air Force ones although Carhart is popular.

DS14 is fashion mad - Ralph Lauren, Carhart, stone Island, Balmain, North Face, Stussy, Evisu small production skater type jeans, black sambas, sweatshirts. He buys stuff on Vinted or bebop and resells too 🙂

Chrispackhamspoodle · 07/01/2024 21:14

DD 16 likes the brand Minga.Long 90s skirts, strappy long dresses, Berskha baggy jeans slung low , tiny stripey tops, leg warmers, DMs, converse, every bright hair colour under the sun.Vintage long leather coat and baggy fake lesther jacket. Percy Jackson hoody is back out for watching the series.
DD 14 wears that ubiquitous Urban outfitters puffer, joggers, tiny tops, converse and nikes, wide legged jeans and gelled pony tail.Dance clothes but then she is a dancer.
Both like Zara, Berskha and H&M.

SunflowerSeeds123 · 07/01/2024 21:29

Oh god, how to describe? DD reminds me a bit of how I used to dress in about 1994! Extra baggy jeans, DMs, Converse, baggy jumpers both plain and colourful, midriff out in summer, Loads of earrings. Goth-y necklaces. Silver rings on every finger. She did have a nose ring but it closed up. Colourful nails. She's 17.

MaloneMeadow · 07/01/2024 21:51

DD is 19 and her style for the past few years has been very preppy and 90s. Think flared jeans, uggs/converse & Ralph Lauren jumpers!

SeasonsGreasons · 07/01/2024 21:52

My 16 year old either wears skinny black jeggings or very baggy jeans or cargo trousers. Baggy band tshirts or cropped tshirt and a hoodie or fleece. Converse, crocs or big platform boots. Pin badges, alternative jewellery, black or purple nail polish, bright or jet black hair dye. No coat!

My student Dd, 20, says she likes 60s stuff, but what she actually wears are skinnies with my old cardigans. She always somehow looks neat and coordinated, even when i know she’s got nothing clean to wear.

DB’s friend’s DD (21) is into higher cut jeans (light wash), red stretch strappy top with purple lacy bra sort of showing. AF1’s white. High ponytail, minimal makeup. Doesn’t like bloating. Looks very similar as I looked in 1990ish with my crop tops showing toned midriff.

Snap!

15YO niece seems to wear almost exclusively White Fox joggers and hoodies at the moment. Has a taste for expensive trainers.

Her older sister wears a lot of very baggy jeans and cropped vests, occasionally an oversized hoodie if it's cold. Skate shoes or crocs.

They are both keen surfers, not sure if the above counts as surfer chic or not!

NancyJoan · 07/01/2024 21:58

DS, 14, no interest, so I get to keep him preppy in a quarter zip over polo shirts and jeans/chinos, with trainers.

DD, 17, has a selection of the world’s largest hoodies, to wear with leggings or joggers. Or, for parties etc, a selection of the world’s smallest tops and dresses. Shoes are trainers or Crocs. My Grenson boots for her job in retail, with top to toe black.

MerryMarigold · 07/01/2024 21:59

DD (15) is very conservative trendy. She loves a bit of Hollister but her favourite jeans she lives in are from Anthropologie (via Vinted) and she loves her Next and Matalan jumpers. She also likes a Fatface print but mostly muted, neutral. She holds no truck with short skirts or leggings.

DS (15) likes tracksuits and trainers (pref Nike), North Face, Trapstar and looking like he's from 'the endz'.

DS (18) doesn't give one. Has to wear a suit for 6th form (cheap Asos one) and then lives in trackie bottoms without caring what brand they are as long as they fit (which is tricky as he's extremely slim) - and hoodies (again, comfort is key).

DominiqueBernard · 07/01/2024 22:02

DD12 bootleg jeans, preferably white, cream or very pale denim. Always in trousers and trainers. Lots of friendship style bracelets, and fabric choker necklaces, and little rings all the way up each finger. Happy to wear H&M which suits us given how quickly she grows!

whyamiawakestill · 07/01/2024 22:03

Mine are arcteryx(bones logo) Stone island, Carhart, dc and then anything from from the 80s & 90s ski gear era, throw in some beat up DMs baggy jeans and some random hoodies and thats the male teenagers in my house. 15-19

Most stuff is depod, Vinted and they share.

pinkfondu · 07/01/2024 22:15

15 yr old dd lives in joggers, pref grey, band Ts and hoodies

2024andsobegins · 07/01/2024 22:17

DS 21 gym shorts gym top and hoodie 99% of the time regardless of weather. For work carhaart jeans and trainers, plain dark T-shirts with cord shirts. Range of Nike and adidas trainers

DD 18 large joggers and extremely small tops with hoodies. Crocs, air force 1 or mini uggs. Spends a lot of time in fleecy pyjamas and deems these suitable going out trousers. Lots of earrings nose rings finger rings bracelets and always lashes.

ThisIsNotARealAvo · 07/01/2024 22:56

DD14 likes tracksuits, mainly Nike, and jogging bottoms with crop tops. She reminds me of when we all wanted to look like All Saints in the 90s.

DS16 likes jogging bottoms and hoodies but also favours the roadman style with tacky jewellery and fake designer cross body bag. Hopefully this phase will pass soon!

BlowDryRat · 07/01/2024 23:35

Oh yes, I forgot the county lines drug dealing bag. DH tells me they're easy to sling into a bush while running from the feds.

I bought DS several pairs of Levi's. The philistine cut the back panel off, thinking it was a label Hmm He wears them though.

My nephew is 14 and this has cracked me up - that's just his style! Loves Hoodrich, Stone Island, Nike, Under Armour. Took him to London to Camden and Shoreditch and he just wanted to go to Oxford Street to JD Sports Grin

Also Mallet trainers? What are they about
