Scalp clarifying shampoo

My scalp feels horrible Blush

Really grainy and gritty.

I don't use any products on the roots of my hair, just the ends, but something is obviously building up.

I have quite dry, frizzy hair so I use kind of creamy shampoos such as Aussie.

I suspect my scalp is just not getting cleaned Envy

Can anyone recommend a really good one? Is Head and Shoulders what I'm looking for, or something else?

I can't believe I've left it this long. I've recently seen adverts for scalp treatment places and I'm fantasising about getting it done but they all seem to be in London.

Paul Mitchell Special Tea Tree Shampoo

Not tried it but have you tried those silicone scalp brushes

also you’re probably not rinsing enough

Aveeno apple cider vinegar shampoo is the best I've ever found.
I buy from Amazon as never seen it in shops - yellow bottle.

No, but I have seen them, didn't think they looked like they would do much.

You are probably right about not rinsing enough.

Klorane clarifying shampoo - used to buy this when I lived in Asia and the water used to leave my hair with residue - this stuff was great

Kerastase Exfoliating Scrub will leave your scalp super clean, promise.

Goodbye2023 · 01/01/2024 21:32

Try K18 detox shampoo, and use it once a week. The first time I used it my hair was miraculously 'clean' again. I love it

Panaa · 01/01/2024 21:35

The original listerine mouthwash is AMAZING for scalp build up.
I find it very hard to find the original one though.

I believe they even used to advertise that it could be used for scalp but because it wasn't tested etc they weren't allowed to do that anymore but it works amazingly.

Nizoral.shampoo - recommended by dermatologist.

I was wondering if somebody would suggest this.

Can you buy it over the counter?

I had it prescribed by a doctor about 10 years ago for a fungal rash on my back. It cleared it up really well, but the stuff was "shampoo" and the instructions were to "lather it into your hair". Obviously I just rubbed it on my back as instructed by GP.

It worked really well so I can believe it would work on scalp as well. Would be keen to get it if can purchase without a prescription.

Why are you not cleaning your scalp when you wash your hair? You should give your scalp a good clean every time but let the products just wash through the rest of your hair.
If you wash your scalp properly you won't need strong shampoos that will dry your hair out, just ordinary shampoo.

idontlikealdi · 01/01/2024 21:39

Body shop ginger

wellyesisupposeso · 01/01/2024 21:39

@Soozikinzii edited to add: I can see it is freely available online. I don't think it was years ago when I last looked.

Think I will order some.

Thanks very much

Just mix a spoonful of bicarbonate of soda in your regular shampoo.

Well I thought I was, but maybe I'm not.

I have a lot of long, very thick hair. So access to the scalp isn't easy. I lather up and massage the shampoo in with my fingers. Is this not enough?

When I used listerine on my scalp I had a kind of strange waxy build up, can't remember what it was called but I think it was some kind of eczema and fungus...sounds lovely 😂
But the listerine killed the fungus.....as far as I remember I just put a few capfuls on my wet hair, massaged it in and left for 5 minutes and it all cleared up perfectly and my hair was gorgeous and bouncy afterwards and the waxy build up didn't come back.

Just don't get it in your eyes if you try it 😂
