'Glow Up'/ "Princessing" 2024 Thread 1

I've had some success with these in the past. Have realised that over the years I've picked little habits from these that I've been able to sustain so I thought ahead of the new year I would start a thread for 2024...anyone else want to join me?
I'm 46 this year and want to focus on being healthy, happy with my style and attuned to my body and skin. I don't want to waste time worrying about not being good enough. I am including a bit of health and fitness on my list as I feel better in my clothes when I'm toned and generally healthy in body and mind. I'll be doing yoga, walking and mad living room dancing. I'll not be bothering with foundation (unless a very special occasion) this year fed up of wearing a mask..so looking after my skin will be important. I won't be spending on fast fashion ...I've done quite well on this in the past, inspired by this board and capsule wardrobe threads.

I'll think about a more detailed list and post it later.

I've copied some useful info from a previous 'Princessing thread' below for anyone that fancies it and needs inspiration.

*The term "Princessing" was invented back in 2011 by a poster called Blackswan. It was the year of the royal wedding and she proposed that every year you should get ready for a wedding you were attending as if it were your own.

I took that idea and ran with it!

The general idea behind that original thread and all the "Princessing" "Grooming" "Operation Revnovation" threads since has been to make small sustainable changes that help make you feel better. To make this measurable, most people finds it helps to make a list - not too long, no more than 20 items really of the changes you want to make. The original thread had one general list but as no two people have the same priorities I think it's better for everyone to have their own individual list. To anyone in need of inspiration the original list was:

  1. 8 glasses of water a day
  1. Exfoliating
  2. Using some kind of teeth whitener
  3. Using some kind of regenerative face cream
  4. Intensive nail care (feet and hands)
  5. Some kind of eyelash growth serum
  6. The Shred / other intensive exercise
  7. At least 2 extra fruit & veg
  8. Healthy breakfast daily.
10. Hair oil (moroccan hair oil for eg, or kerastase etc) 11. No alcohol during the week 12. Daily vitamins 13. Body brushing 14. At least 2 servings of salmon or other fatty fish per week. 15. One early night once a week. Suggest 9PM. 16. Regular hair removal 17. Give up one naughty favourite item e.g. chocolate/crisps 18. No more fizzy drinks 19. DAILY body moisturising. 20. Warm water with lemon first thing in the a.m.

You don't have to post your list but I would recommend you write it down somewhere for yourself.

I have a theory that every year you should treat one wedding you're attending as though it were your own. Not that you're the bride, or as import...

I’m still here! I have decluttered my make up drawer and chucked away everything that was expired or no longer worked for me. Now I have easy access to stuff which does work for me and I have been trying to wear it every day, even for work. It’s been quite fun experimenting with new looks with eyeshadow etc. i have also been wearing bronzer and fake tan over the summer to have a little bit of a glow. This makes me look a thousand times better!

I have also started doing heatless curls which I’m quite enjoying. It can be a bit hit or miss as to how ‘perfect’ it looks but i am quite enjoying experimenting!

I’m still here too! I’ve lost three stone, sticking to my skincare and trying to look after my hair. Invested in some redken anti-snap spray which I love! Need to stay on top of fake tanning my legs to match my naturally tanned arms 😂

I've fallen off the wagon with house move and renovations, I'm feeling more like the scullery maid than the princess!

I've got hair appointments booked in for the rest of the year so I'll keep on top of my colour and cut. I've also started getting my eyebrows shaped and tinted, I'm keeping them really natural looking but it makes a huge difference to how put together I look even without makeup.

I'm sorting out my wardrobe (should have done this before I moved but didn't get round to it!) and putting together a capsule wardrobe for working from home so that I don't end up in the same old jogging bottoms and hoodie. I'll go back through my list for more princessing tasks.

Lovely pamper.
I think this is the key - keeping on top of appointments - I’ve let my hair appointment slide and I can tell!
Also need to rebook for gel toes - mine are so grown out.

Hello, I was just looking for a thread like this one! Is it still going and can a newbie join for the run up to the end of the year?

I want to sort myself out head to toe:

  • give my feet some TLC with heel cream, nails etc.
  • make an appointment for scelerotherapy in November
  • continue with 2 solid gym workouts and 1 conditioning class and hitting my steps and do a bit of swimming
  • keep nutrition on track
  • book highlights for my hair and make and keep regular hair appointments and just generally do my hair!
  • maybe pop and get my eyebrows done
  • get a few more makeup bits I need
  • get a new pair of glasses
  • consistent skin care routine
  • teeth whitening and keep on top of it
  • more sleep and day to day general self care routine

Thinking about what will have most impact its probably the hair.

If I add in one of these basic things for me a week I will feel more together overall.

Next week - book hair.

So I've been taking Biotin for a while and didn't think it was doing anything but there are baby hairs! we will have to see if they actually grow and don't just break but its kinda cool as my hair has been so thin since pregnancy.

I've also got some nail oil to see if that helps with my very brittle nails.

Sandbag11 · 10/09/2024 08:19

I’ve been going to the gym consistently three times a week for the last 6 months and finally starting to see some changes in my shape.
so hoping to keep this up over winter

I’m so glad I found this thread as I was about to start one titled ‘Is anyone still princessing?’

I’m just home from the school run and fed up of feeling like the frumpiest person there!

My issues:

  1. I’m pregnant so my wardrobe choices are pretty limited (though I have just ordered a few new bits from Vinted)
  2. My hair - will be sorting that on Thursday.
  3. Shoes - what do people wear that’s comfortable, stylish and suitable for the changeable weather but doesn’t cost the earth?
  4. I seem to have lost the ability to put together an outfit without looking like a total frump!

I’m only 38 - I don’t want to look like I’ve let myself go! Will scroll back through this to find ideas but any tips on how to feel more put-together and less frumpy would be very welcome!

Re shoes. I'd recommend some leather Chelsea boots. Perfect for wet and dry and cam be worn with most things. Aldi had some as special buys for £25.

I'm still princessing. Need to improve in some areas;

  • Apply foot cream before putting socks on in the morning
  • Full evening skincare rather than quick wash and moisterise.
  • drink more water and eat more veggies.

Things I'm doing well on:

  • styling my hair after washing instead of leaving to frizz out dry naturally.
  • gym 4 times a week.
  • early to bed
Vgtasd · 14/09/2024 12:40

Hey ladies, glad to see this thread is still going! Some great ideas from you all, my targets are:
A green tea per day
One fish oil tablet per day
Vitamin D tablet everyday
Night cream every night
Up my vitamin c
