How do you keep looking young ?

I have seen my mum for Christmas and although she is on the tip of 60, she looks 100. Her personality is golden, the kindest woman you would ever meet. Her face wears the years of love, happiness and wisdom like jewellery. She is beauty and kindness personified. However, The only liquid to pass her lips is tea or wine. I don't think skin care or moisturisers are in her vocabulary and she's blind but refuses to wear glasses so her face is permanently scrunched up in a squint (when it isn't her skin seems to think it still is) I hope that doesn't sound too harsh.

I'm am noticing the same thing happen to my face, the problem areas appear to be the same. Under my eyes is flat and crinkled. Despite a reasonable water intake, day moisturiser and smotherings at night, if you were to lift that skin it would just stay there. My forehead is ravaged with thick lines where I spend my day in disdain and the usual crows feet.

So my question, what the hell can I do to keep me looking young? I'm 38 and I need to reduce the speed at which this is coming at me!

I'm thinking
Water
Eat healthy
No 7 creams
Face rollers
Botox?

And and spf. I have drilled into my kids to wear it every day.

Matchinglipsandfingertips · 26/12/2023 19:23

I work in beauty and don't have many wrinkles. I am 58.
I wear spf and have never smoked.
I eat fish nearly every day.
I no longer drink. I love milk.
I eat lots of fruit and veg and other than a few crappy months I am usually happy.
My friend a well known cosmetic chemist uses Nivea soft!
Personally I like Shiseido, Tandem, clarins and SoHo.

Happy Christmas all!

I haven't read the responses in full or done any research based on but this is my ravaged forehead. First thing (ish) in the morning so before the disdain of the day.

Can it be saved?

How long have you had them?
I'm asking as I have similar deep lines on my forehead but I swear they appeared in my late teens! My dad has them too so I think they are genetic.
I find they look worse first thing in the morning & if I'm dehydrated. I'm not sure anything will budge them, even Botox as they are there at rest.
Oddly I have no wrinkles anywhere else!

doriangraybutimthepaintingintheattic · 26/12/2023 22:15

@MissAtomicBomb1 I've had them a good few years but they used to disappear. Probably a year or two they haven't disappeared throughout the day.

Mine and under my eyes are 100% worse when I'm dehydrated. I also wake up with a creased face so PP recommending a silk pillow is a worthy investment.

I’m in my 60s and put my lack of forehead wrinkles down to alway having a fringe therefore no sun 😂

This is with using tretinoin, I'm about to turn 40
I will probably have Botox on my 11 lines when I can stretch to it, I've had it before 3 times and not for years

I keep my weight under control (personally I find being over weight ages)

Exercise 5 x week (incl resistance training) to keep myself toned.

Hardly drink alcohol (it’s aging)

Have never smoked (you can tell a smokers skin)

Drink plenty of water

Look after my skin. Cleanse morning & evening. AM - use a Vit C serum + moisturiser & sunscreen. PM - use a retinol serum + moisturiser.

Don’t slap on the makeup (it’s aging). And keep my makeup modern (I think women using the same makeup look & products they have for years can age you)

Good haircut every 6 weeks. I have a short trendy pixie - personally I don’t like older women with long hair just hanging there.

Keep your wardrobe fresh. I’m 52 - I don’t want to dress like a dowdy middle aged woman.

Im loving that Nivea soft is used by so many

As a youngster - pre menopause - I found it too rich, now my skin loves it and Ive ditched all expensive miracle creams and slap that on, cheap as chips and my skin finally loves it :)

My grandmother and her sisters swore by Ponds ( back in the 60's) Their beauty regime was soap and water and Ponds. All the older ladies in my family smelt the same - Ponds :)

  • Good skincare regime
  • Eating healthily - but everything in moderation, I don't deny myself if I'm craving something... that includes alcohol
  • Good sleep routine
  • Pilates, ballet and 5k walk/runs

Oh and a boob job and Botox (best thing I ever did!). I'm almost 40 yet occasionally still get asked for ID. I do work damn hard for it though

How many times per week do you do pilates and ballet? Is walking daily? Thank you.

Hormone replacement therapy. If you have to ask you’re probably too young to need it. 🙂

nottaotter · 27/12/2023 06:08

SPF daily at least 30. I think genetics play a role for sure, also I had very oily skin until a couple of years ago, im 46. Im talking shiny after washing my face, people would ask if I was sweating!
I think that has helped me look a few years younger.

Ive heard good things about the Nu face device, im definitely going to invest in some kind of at home gadget in the new year.

InAMess2023 · 27/12/2023 07:29

@Alohapotato i do 2-3 Pilates, 1-2 Ballet and I try and do 2-3 5k runs/walks... building up to running the full time gradually but i walk really fast in between - and always on the treadmill. I am a bit useless at general walking though as I prefer being inside and hate the wind and rain!

Brightandbubly · 27/12/2023 09:07

Tret A
lots of water
always loved blue Nivea but switched to Neom
lavender oil they used to market it as using everywhere but after they expanded their range they promote for body and hair. Lasts ages and v soothing use on my face morning and night.
always factor 50 on my face even if cloudy
I use fabric strapping and cut it to use as strips under my eyes, stops the creasing as a side sleeper. Wouldn’t want to do Botox as frozen foreheads and faces make one appear older
Great genetics
read about face yoga so that is on my list to explore
im late mid 50s for reference

😂 kind of. I drive for a living and see things that make me pull a face and an hour will pass and I'll realise my face has not moved or that my forehead lines are heavy set because I have been pulling that face. I can sort of iron them out at the minute and when I wake up they are less so I think it's the disdain.

Haha - totally makes sense!!
