I can't seem to dress myself nicely for my shape.

I'm a 16 top, 12/14 waist and 16 hips. Quite Literally hour glass. So everything either looks top tight on top and hips or way too loose abd frumpy.

I'm looking fir smart casual. I prefer long tops that cover my bum. And I will wear them with trousers or jeans. I like making skirts abd dresses but if they have a tie I look frumpy.

And just fir added difficulty I wear hijab so can't be too tight or revealing!!

Any help or advice would be much appreciated. After 4 kids who are all finally.in school I don't want to be frumpy mum anymore!

Please and thank you in advance!!

If you nail it @Tomatoshish , you could start a blog. There must be women out there who want to look stylish but in a fairly modest way.

Do you wear salwar kameez sometimes? Maybe one that's a bit more fitted around the waist would look stylish. Some of the young women where I am wear them. Many seem to wear westernised clothes but with an ankle length skirt or leggings to cover their legs, and a hijab.

A jumpsuit could look good on you.

You didn't say if you are tall or short or somewhere in between.

Can you think of any stylish role models whose look you like? They could be hijab-wearing or not.

Thankyou @MerryChristmasToYou no I don't wear those. I think those are like a traditional Indian wedding suit?

I'm awful at writing. Plus we run 3 businesses. I don't gave time to wrote a blog unfortunately.

There's lots of bloggers out there doing these things. But they are either quite young. Or tops woth leggings which I don't wear.

Good idea though. I'm aire there is someone. I just need to look a bit more!

Maybe I got the name of the outfit wrong, but it's a tunic dress over slightly loose trousers. The attached image isn't the best example but gives a sort of idea. The dresses are cotton and don't have sequins or anything.
I'm in quite a multi-cultural area with a high percentage of british asians.
The noth african muslims I know tend to wear long fairly loose cotton dresses

I was chatting to a lady at the supermarket a few days ago, and she wore an outfit similar to the long cardigan, blue jeans and shirt you posted, and she had a greyish-lilacy hijab. It was a shirt not a dress. She looked great, but didn't look size 16. As a stylish day-to-day look it's fine. The clientele at the supermarket is mixed, so you get people straight from building sites/office block/gym and so on, but she looked like she always dressed fine.

Running 3 business is a lot of work.

Oh I see. Yes. I'm english, my dh is turkish. So I often buy clothes from turkey and I have some matching sets. I have an all light grey one which I like but can never find shoes that look right outside of summer.

I often wear maxi dresses too. But feel like i need something a bit more 'mature'. I am coming up for 32 and have 4 kids. So feel like I need more grown up clothes 🙈

I see! 32 is young but you're a fair bit older than the local teenagers in a hijab, black long skirt or trousers and puffa jackets, and you probably don't want to wear something traditionally not from your culture and age group.

Companies like White Stuff and Seasalt are good for tunics. Toast might be worth a look, and it might be worth looking at the 'Monty Don' threads on here.

It's quality stuff. @Tomatoshish .
On a completely different vibe, I think Monsoon is good for hourglass shapes. It looks lovely on the hanger but wrong on me - the cut doesn't suit my shape. I'm an inverted triangle and they seem to suit a softer body shape.

If you like Toast, you might like Plumo, which sells other brands too.
