have been reading about them .

Do they make a difference or are they hype?

I think they are worth it, when I remember to use them! I used a Prescriptives one, and it was so good I could go without foundation, and I have rubbish skin.

brimfull · 15/03/2008 18:09

oh reeally I have a voucher for space nk and was thinking of treating myself to one.

All the make up artists use them now, they make you look more finished and your make up def. lasts longer.

brimfull · 15/03/2008 18:41

you have sold me

musicgirl · 15/03/2008 19:00

They make your foundation look luminescent and helps your foundation stick better to your skin. Chanel has a great one for 20 pounds.

brimfull · 16/03/2008 19:30

thanks

so do how many of you use them without foundation?

OP posts:
scanner · 16/03/2008 19:32

Was sold one by the ladies on the MAC counter, can't say I can see any difference with or without it.

droopytits · 18/03/2008 17:06

me too scanner - i've got the MAC one and cant really see a difference. Wonder if the Chanel one is any better.

Katiekitty · 18/03/2008 18:27

I've tried many a primer and the best one I think is No 7 'Instant Radiance'. It's not like a primer that say, is used for toning down colour or mattifying, but it adds a very natural luminesceence (sp?). I've tried the Chanel Blanc one, but found the no 7 one much better. Give it a whirl! Or, go into your store with a little tester pot and ask them to squirt some in... I have done this when the money has run out and I desperately need some!
Also tried the Estee Lauder Idealist, found it gave a good result but it felt a little drying as the day wore on. My skin is dry though...

brimfull · 18/03/2008 19:54

top tip katietitty thanks will go and ask for a sample

OP posts:
Maidamess · 18/03/2008 19:59

Yes katiekitty I have that no 7 one and it is very similar to the ace Prescriptives one, called Magic Potion I think, which was to die for but expensive.

millie1 · 19/03/2008 16:51

I've started using the MAC one ... some days I can see a difference, other days not. Someone did once comment (first time ever) that my skin looked fabulous when I had it on - with makeup . Hmmm .. wonder if I should try Channel next?

annieatno4 · 19/03/2008 22:05

I had a makeover at a Smashbox makeup counter before christmas, and the one thing i loved was the primer.
DH bought me some for christmas (37.00 euro), and i have had a load of comments on how well i look, on how my make up looks great etc.
So i think its well worth it.
Smashbox do 4 different kinds .. i just have the bog standard one.

oooh annie that sounds interesting
wonder if spacenk do smashbox stuff(have some vouchers)

OP posts:
cornsilk · 20/03/2008 11:00

Is smashbox stuff good then? They're often on QVC so I thought they might be pants.

MrsMattie · 20/03/2008 11:04

I have tried a couple of expensive ones, including the Chanel one, and didn't rate them. I use the Boots Protect & Perfect Serum as a primer for make-up and it works beautifully on my skin, although it's not technically a primer. Foundation lasts longer and looks more natural - doesn't settle into lines etc. Think you have to experiment to find things that suit your own skin, though.

Just checked QVC website smashbox are on next week - will check for what they have on offer.

brimfull · 20/03/2008 11:15

I have some smashbox makeup brushes that are fab.Haven't tried the makeup but I think it's meant to be good stuff,on a par with MAC I think.

OP posts:
cornsilk · 20/03/2008 11:17

Really! Damn - I've seen LOADS of 'today special value' smashbox sets with loads of stuff in shown on QVC but didn't get any as I'd never heard of it. (I check QVC quite a lot as they do the big bottles of mop stuff)

MyEye · 20/03/2008 11:20

I've got a Smashbox primer, the green one (it's meant to de-redden rosy complexions ) and I like the texture a lot, but I think the dispenser itself lets the product down. There's loads left in the bottle but it's not coming out of the pump anymore -- not getting sucked up properly. So I won't buy it again.

I really rate the Mac Prep and Prime. It's got a faint pearly sheen which I like. And it definitely makes your skin feel smoother.

brimfull · 20/03/2008 11:25

apparently in GB smashbox is only sold in JOhn Lewis and QVC as well as ebay obviously.

Haven't seen it on my local JL though, will have a look next time.
