Earmuffs-would you wear them as an adult?

When I’ve done my hair I don’t want to put a hat on…so I was wondering about earmuffs for warmth. Would you wear them? Or do you think they look too childish for adults?
If you do wear them, are they actually effective?
Thank you!

I wouldn't wear them but then I don't wear hats either.

toomuchfaster · 19/12/2023 21:14

I wouldn't but because they are intensely annoying and I can't hear when I wear DD's!!

LubaLuca · 19/12/2023 21:16

Yeah, I can't see why I wouldn't. I wear hats a lot, so no reason why I wouldn't wear other headgear.

Bertiesmum3 · 19/12/2023 21:17

Most definitely not!
i don’t wear hats neither.
That’s a personal thing though due to hearing.

AllTheWatersTurnedToClouds · 19/12/2023 21:18

Very common in Canada - lots (esp men) wear 'adult' ones that go round the back rather than over the top of your head.

IBegYourBiggestPardon · 19/12/2023 21:25

I do. I find them comfier over my glasses, than I do wearing a hat. I will however wear a hat if it's raining. I look like a nob in either but I prefer not to have freezing cold ears. I suppose the only downside is. Unlike a hat you can't just stuff them in your pocket unless they're the fold up type which mine aren't

Sunshinebuttercupsrainbows · 19/12/2023 21:32

I have ear muffs that I wore in Lapland last year but haven’t worn them here yet, I might though as they are cute. I got a satin-lined hat for this exact reason though and it’s made a huge difference!

AtillaTheHon · 19/12/2023 21:41

They aren't my style at all and I think I'd look like a giant toddler in them myself. But I think some women look cute in them! Usually women who are petite and / or slim (I am neither of those things)!

TheOGCCL · 19/12/2023 21:44

I’ve had mine about fifteen years and they come out when it’s really cold. Really make a difference and I don’t like hats.

Sprig1 · 19/12/2023 22:02

I like to wear a headband ear warmer instead.

dudsville · 20/12/2023 08:34

I've tried in the past but always found them hard on my ears. My head isn't particularly big either. I don't think they're childish though, they're a sensible choice.

sunshineandshowers40 · 20/12/2023 08:37

I wear them but I prefer a hat as I do struggle to hear properly with earmuffs on.

SquashPenguin · 20/12/2023 08:39

I wear them. I have a full fringe and as much as I love a hat, sometimes I don’t want my fringe crushed out of shape.

IHeartKingThistle · 20/12/2023 08:54

I do! Sheepskin ones are amazing.

CanaryCanary · 20/12/2023 08:56

Yeah I do. Generally I wear the knitted headbands or the type that go around the back of my neck, rather than the type with a big chunky plastic band over the top of the head. It does cut down on how much I can hear but haven’t found that a big issue.

ithinkicanithinkican · 20/12/2023 09:03

I do - I'm 53 and they look nice on me. But my primary reason is that I experience pain if it's really windy and the wind gets 'in' my ears when I'm walking outside for any length of time - it's very uncomfortable for me, and I find earmuffs help avoid this much better than a woolly hat does. But I'm also of the opinion that people should feel free to wear whatever clothes they enjoy, whatever their age.

Candleabra · 20/12/2023 09:05

I wouldn’t but that’s because I look shit in hats or any related headgear.
I like them on other people though.

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 20/12/2023 09:13

I would and I do. Warm ears are great.

Mischance · 20/12/2023 09:18

I have brown sheepskin ear muffs - they are great! Can't hear a darned thing of course! - but hats send my fine hair into a fluffy halo when I take them off!

SnapdragonToadflax · 20/12/2023 09:41

Yes I do, I love them - mainly for when it's windy, as my ears are a bit delicate and I find it painful. Mine are black fluff with a very slim headband, from Accessorize years ago. Wooly hats make my head itchy and my hair go static, so I prefer not to wear them.

I am neither slim or petite 😂Average height and size 20! But I think they look fine, kind of cute but also functional.

dressedforcomfort · 20/12/2023 09:42

I would. Get awful earache in the cold so whatever works, frankly....

Mabelface · 20/12/2023 09:50

I wear over ear headphones instead. 😊

Helenahandkart · 20/12/2023 09:52

I have a cheap pair that I wear on windy walks and my bike as I hate hats and get really painful ears in the cold wind.
Surprisingly, they don’t compromise my hearing at all

LoobyDop · 20/12/2023 12:51

I do sometimes, if my hair is tied up and won’t fit under a hat. Once you’re over about 25 I really think you need to prioritise staying warm in the freezing cold over other people’s opinions.
