Going out to nice restaurant tomorrow.. what would you wear?

Imagine the scenario: going out to nice restaurant at 8pm. It's mid December, Saturday- meeting in pub for a few drinks at 7pm.

What would you wear?

Leather mini skirt, tights, boots and some sort of blouse or thinner top with blazer

SaltyGod · 15/12/2023 17:43

Either: healed boots with midi skirt/dress. Kind of 70s vibe with the leather or suede boots and swish of the skirt.

or flat black suede boots with chunky zip detail, tights, mini ish skirt, thinner smarter top underneath but chunkier jumper on top for warmth

grayhairdontcare · 15/12/2023 17:52

Depends where you are.
My local city is anything goes.
The next city is ultra glamorous

gotomomo · 15/12/2023 18:10

Depends where! Where I am, any clean clothes will do. People walk around in walking trousers, jeans, waterproof jackets etc. up north, dress up!

lesdeluges · 15/12/2023 18:26

Nice top and comfortable but well tailored trousers, ankle boots, good earrings and make up. Job done.

I'm biased as I dislike dresses in Winter, always a draft going you know where, and I have to find tights and I hate the damn things. So each to their own.

IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle · 15/12/2023 18:26

Depends what you like to wear.

Exclude obvious extremes like Oscar red carpet dresses at one end and oodies/ onesies at the other, then as gotomomo said, anything clean will do; or dress up if you want.

HomburgandTrilby · 15/12/2023 18:32

I went to a Michelin-starred restaurant last night and wore a leather midi skirt, boots, a thin sweater tucked in and heavy silver jewellery. The people I was meeting there wore everything from work suits, wrap dresses, silk shirts and wide-legged trousers, jeans and a T-shirt, to a fleece and walking trousers (having just come down off a mountain). It was an excellent night.

Some great inspiration thanks!

As the emphasis is on a meal where you'll be sitting down and it may be warm (so your top half is more on display than the rest of you), I'd go for jeans, boots, nice black lace top, smart cardigan, black jacket or coat depending on how cold it is.

FoxtrotOscarFoxtrotOscar · 15/12/2023 22:18

Velvet blazer over light top/silk blouse, slim trousers tucked into long boots.

verrymerryberry · 15/12/2023 22:47

For those wearing blazers would you wear a coat?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 16/12/2023 09:23

I’m at a Michelin guide (not star) restaurant tonight.

I’m going to be wearing a dress, black tights and black heeled boots. Just need to decide which dress/boots combo to go for.

Assuming you're in the UK it's winter. I wouldn't wear a blazer but surely whatever you decide on you're going to wear a coat on top which you'll take off and hang up.

I do think you're overthinking this. I wouldn't wear most of the suggestions on here as blazers, leather skirts, silk blouses and lace tops are not my thing. If it were me, I'd just pick any of my non summer dresses and flat lace up boots. I.e wear what you've got in your wardrobe that you like.

Good point from HuntingoftheSnark that it's your top half which will be seen.

verrymerryberry · 16/12/2023 12:03

I'm not really over thinking this I just wondered what other people would wear.

I'm going to wear a hush mini dress in dark floral and tights and flat boots. Maybe a velvet blazer/maybe a coat.

I just don't want to look incongruous.

Surely the whole point of style and beauty threads is to get the opinions of others.

I like clothes.
Threads like these often ends up with people saying "wear what you like" "wear what's comfortable" "it doesn't matter" in various different guises and hope to avoid that by phrasing my OP into hypothetical question.

I obviously failed!

Comfy jeans and a nice shirt.

Christmassss · 16/12/2023 12:10

I’m wearing a sparkly top with either a leather skirt or leather leggings tonight to a really nice restaurant.
I need to be comfortable as the journey involved a bus, train and a mile walk each way so will probably go for the leggings.

OneCup · 16/12/2023 12:14

In my eyes, black tends to look well dressed so I'd go something warm, comfy and black 😁

verrymerryberry · 16/12/2023 12:37

@Christmassss I did wonder if I should wear something sparkly!

I love clothes.

How do you think you're going to look "incongruous" in a pub or a nice restaurant? I mean you could if you turned up in a ball gown or pyjamas or a swimsuit but beyond that almost nothing will be "incongruous"

"What would you wear to go to a pub and a restaurant" is such a wide question.

I could tell you what I'd wear, and it'd be almost nothing suggested on this thread, including what you're going to wear. What you're going to wear is perfect, if that's what you like.

BingoMarieHeeler · 16/12/2023 12:43

Black velvet bell-sleeve jumpsuit which is stretchy enough to do up myself. Sooo comfy! Love it.

I am no Style and Beauty expert, I just thought it would be fun.

Strokethefurrywall · 16/12/2023 12:43

I'm going to dinner with husband and his business partners and wives tonight and I'm wearing black and silver body suit with black palazzo pants and heels.

But I also live in a hot country so don't require coat or layers. And honestly, I could wear anything and it wouldn't be out of place but I'm dressing up because I want to.

OnlyCorrect · 16/12/2023 12:48

Impossible to advise without knowing the specific restaurant and occasion. And even then, the answer might genuinely be 'anything you fancy', because that really IS the dresscode in most 'nice' places.

Defiantlynot41 · 16/12/2023 13:01

Gotta love a sequin - I wore a version of this (previous season sweatshirt so more of a bronze colour) with black cropped jeans out to brunch last week and didn't feel overdressed

Going out to nice restaurant tomorrow.. what would you wear?
GettingStuffed · 16/12/2023 13:33

I was out last night and the overall summation of clothing was Christmas jumpers with jeans, trousers and skirts or sequins, hundred of sequins
