ow.

I couldn't contemplate not wearing one. In fact it hurts just to think about it.

claricebeansmum · 14/03/2008 17:12

Sometimes I don't because I can't find one I like that goes under my top. Is the built-in shelfy bit not enough?

BoysAreLikeDogs · 14/03/2008 17:13

Were they wearing normal bras ?

Or nothing?

CoteDAzur · 14/03/2008 17:15

I don't, because all my gym tops have a built-in bra thingie.

DrNortherner · 14/03/2008 17:15

Normal bra's.

Wierd

iMum · 14/03/2008 17:17

Non sports bra wearers must have either, mini norks or not be working out hard enough!

pagwatch · 14/03/2008 17:17

were they actually doiung anything.
Most of the women at my gym on Thiursday were getting pissed in the cafe. Lots of lycra but large glasses of wine and loads of make up

TsarChasm · 14/03/2008 17:20

Why are they so good? They never seem as supportive as my underwired jobbies.

I do wear one though...(on the rare occasions that I exercise )

Monkeybird · 14/03/2008 17:27

if that were me, there'd have to be paramedics on standby to resus all the large sweaty men who'd been knocked off the crosstrainer.

hatwoman · 14/03/2008 17:28

I never used to wear one for running in - ie I wore normal ones. the only reason I do now is that I can only wear a normal one (under-wired in my case) for about 40 mins before it starts to rub. I'll still wear a normal one if I can't find a sports one. they're just as supportive (for a moderate b cup like myself)- it's only the rubbing that's a problem and it's not the end of the world.

DrNortherner · 14/03/2008 17:34

PMSL Monkeybird.

Well I'm only a B cup and I always wera a sports bra, I don't think normal bras are as supportive at all. When you run they bounce around. When I am due on my boobs hurt like hell just going down the stairs in a normal bra, yet I can run for miles in my sports bra.

Iota · 14/03/2008 17:34

normal all the time here - it's never been a problem

(modest B cup)

Why all women must get their bust under control!
Research has shown up to 56% of women experience breast pain when exercising. This is due to the large displacement of the breasts, which in addition to the discomfort can cause embarrassment. Breast motion is hard to reduce, as the breast does not contain strong intrinsic structural support. The primary supporting structures in the breasts are the Cooper?s ligaments. With secondary support only from the skin, these can easily be stretched if repeatedly loaded, as occurs during physical exercise. This can cause the breast to sag. It is therefore important to reduce breast movement to limit breast pain and irreversible stretch of the Cooper?s Ligaments.

An Australian study tested a sport bra against a fashion bra, a crop top and bare breasted and found that the sports bra reduced pain and vertical movement by 50% compared to bare breasted exercise. The crop top and fashion bra reduced vertical movement and perceived pain but only by the half the amount of the sports bra.

Research to date suggests to reduce pain and motion of the breasts when exercising, adult females should wear a well-fitting sports bra.

I'd knock myself out if I didn't wear a sports bra.
I have a Hold-em-down-so-no-movement-at-all High Impact one.
I am a 36E though.

chenin · 14/03/2008 17:51

Never wear a bra in the gym.... hate the feel of them and when I work hard and work up a sweat (as if!) the straps fall down and it just does feel right.

However, I wear a tight fitting Nike top with built in support and it completely holds everything in and flattened!

chenin · 14/03/2008 17:51

I mean... it doesn't feel right....

I wear those tops that are like a tight vest but cut off so just come to under the bust. I find those quite sufficient - I am a 30DD.

Mind you, I don't go to the gym, I've got a concept II rower at home so no jigging about going on, and I've also got a Reebok Step and there isn't huge amounts of jumping around there either.

Novicecamper · 14/03/2008 17:54

I mean a sports top by the way - so they are probably like a sports bra??

I wear a normal bra to exercise ( good, supportive one, mind you). I hate sports bras.
