Luxury* candle

I'm posting here partly because this topic is more live and let live about spending and disposable income imo and also because this is the board of beautiful things!

I'm treating myself to a luxury candle. Something with a beautiful fragrance and good longevity and reasonable throw.

I'm looking at Miller Harris, Bon Parfumeur, Bob & Eight, Diptyque, ESPA, AERIN, Moncler, Goutal, Tom Dixon, maybe Rituals and Molton Brown. Have ruled out Jo Malone, Tom Ford and Neom. Anybody have any recommendations or ones to avoid out of those brands? It is a long list I know but decisions are hard when I'm stressed which only emphasises that it is time to do something nice for myself!

*definitions may vary 😉

Diptyque but you have to get the right scent for you

JustWhatWeDontNeed · 09/12/2023 18:16

Neom are the nicest I've had. Not sure why you've ruled them out though.

Diptyque disappointed me - I had a violet one which was lovely, but the smell didn't last to the end of the candle! It was ££££ so I was far from impressed.

Haven't had one for years, but Loccitane were always nice.

JustWhatWeDontNeed · 09/12/2023 18:20

The scent throw on Jo Malone is rubbish, for those asking. JM is one of those mystery brands which charges a fortune for sub par products. Their perfumes are also meh.

Molton Brown are also way overpriced. Their shower gels might smell nice but their formula in no way justifies the price.

JustWhatWeDontNeed · 09/12/2023 18:21

You could also look at Penhaligons, OP.

Their perfumes are beautiful but have such poor longevity on my skin. Do their candles fare any better?

I'm a fan of Jo Loves - especially the Figs Trees one.

Bichette · 09/12/2023 19:03

Cire Trudon but they are £££

SkyFullofStars1975 · 09/12/2023 19:06

I splurged and got the large White Company winter candle last year. I've since bought two more, as they scent the house even unlit.

If you're feeling splurgy, Holland Cooper candles are pretty good - we went to the Bicester store in the summer and had to ask the assistant what smell we were all drawn to. They've also just started advertising reed diffusers.

BeaLola · 09/12/2023 19:07

Diptyque depending on scent

I do like a fig candle and cannot remember the brand of the one I started last week but it's gorgeous

To be honest I do like the Aromatherapy Associates atomiser and oils as it's easier to use when im in and out of a day - candle lighting tends to only get done in the evening or a Sunday afternoon

My Jo Loves was ok but not great

I've not tried, sorry. They're just another luxury brand that came to mind. I agree many of their extortionate perfumes have poor staying power.

I'm finishing a stash of non-expensive Harpers candles at the moment. They're lovely but are no longer trading, which is a shame.

With Neom is it their fragrances that you don't like?

Aromatherapy Associates also do candles I think, but again I haven't tried 🤔 their bath oils are lovely though.

dancingmonkey · 09/12/2023 19:08

I love & other stories, fav atm is Perle de coco. Scent is so strong in a good way, can smell it when I walk into room even unlit!

dancingmonkey · 09/12/2023 19:09

Also overose- croissant

ChristmasPuddy · 09/12/2023 19:14

Diptyque candles are really amazing, I find they really fragrance the room even when not lit.

I agree Jo Malone and Jo Loves candles are rubbish for how much they are!

There might also be some luxury candle makers local to you, I find they are actually the best for the price!

Cire Trudon but they are £££

Just looked up their site, really exxy

I’m assuming they have reason for the price, not really up on candle stuff

Torganer · 09/12/2023 19:15

D.S & Durga, Concrete after Lightning is my favourite. The Portable Fireplace is more festive if you want something Christmassy.

Lurkingshark · 09/12/2023 19:15

Some already mentioned that I like (Diptyque, byrefo) and new ones (fredric Malle- I like the fragrances so should have guessed they do candles). There is a very funny Get the gloss review of all the diptyque smells from a few years bsvk

One not mentioned is boy smells - I got sucked in to the trendiness but I really love LES- it might be too sweet. Also Ortiga- the Indian fog one is my preferred fig.

don’t rate the Jo loves for smell, nor most of the Jo malone ( pp right about sub par for price on that one, but I love orange bitters).

enjoy! This is a fun purchase.

Oh gosh! So many options to explore 🤗😍

Re. Neom, they just never wow me with their fragrances. I've tried a few of their products and they put everything including the kitchen sink in them. Too chaotic and overpowering. Once their candles are burning they are not as bad as other Neom products but even so, lighting them never excites me.

Neom are lovely.
