Should I cut my hair? Short hair - over 50?

I’ve always preferred my hair short, it’s fine with a wave and is easy to quickly blow dry - I especially suit the slightly flicked out style like Kate Silverton used to have .

The past two years has seen me (very slowly) grow out to shoulder length. It’s so fine and quite ratty now on the ends so needs a really good cut. I’m quite grey but have a combination of highlights and a darker blond. I’m finding myself hankering after my old style but I’m 50, my face is fatter with a double chin coming along and I fear I’ll look older.

It’s wavy yet doesn’t look tidy when I scrunch dry it - it’s just dried and it curls up at the ends. It’s flat and it won’t hold much volume, it’s terrible day two and looks like it needs washing.

I have a hair appointment in the morning - should I be brave and cut it short again? If so what kind of style? I don’t want anything too ‘out there’ and all the pictures I like I suspect they are dated and the ‘id like to see the manager’ (as much as I hate that analogy so apologies). Any inspiration please?

I like it curly more than how the hairdresser did it. And it's not a bad idea to get the straggly bits cut off. I think this will grow on you when you okay with it a bit and have make up on .

You have a beautiful complexion and the prettiest shade of blue eyes, I agree that a black frame is too heavy for your features, I know you didn't ask but you'd really suit smoky grey or tortoise shell frames.

I’m another one preferring your hair at both lengths with the curls. Try the bumble and bumble invisible oil range - it’s not too heavy. Also second the idea of changing your frames when/if you can afford to.

The wavy version looks great!

You have got a lovely chin and neck, slim with no jowls .
Wait till after Xmas / spring time and have it cut off. All short like you want.
Take a picture so you can’t get persuaded otherwise.
And if you don’t like it -guess what - It’ll grow back .
I was the same for years and took the plunge a year ago. ( Even though I’ve got a fatter neckline than you and I was kidding myself the Bob was hiding it. )
I love it . It’s liberating and I get lots of compliments because it always looks groomed and tidy .
I do wash and style it every day - it’s a 5 minute job and makes me feel fabulous.
Just go for it .
