Hair looks nice briefly then goes mental the minute I go outside - any cure?

I have almost shoulder length straight hair. Decent condition i think. I dry it the way the hairdresser showed me - heat spray, barrel brush and hairdryer, then straighteners. Faff about with my "bangs" a bit.
I was going out with friends today and took my time doing it, it looked decent! Smooth and straight. Outside for 10 mins or so, looked in the mirror at our destination- what the actual fuck. Frizzy, not straight any more, not smooth any more. Brushing improved it marginally but it had definitely lost all traces of sleekness. Is there a magic cure for this?!!

Following, I have the same problem.

ThePoshUns · 03/12/2023 22:56

I don't know but hoping someone else does.
I have wavy hair but not wavy enough to look nice if I dint blow dry it. Is yours the same?

MalibuBetty · 03/12/2023 22:57

Mine is exactly the same I'm going to invest in a 12 week blow dry to see if it helps

ShirleyPhallus · 03/12/2023 22:58

It’s the damp in the air that does it. Wear a scarf, a hood or one of those granny rain hat things and it’ll keep the moisture out of your hajr

however, if your hair is doing this there is a good chance it’s wavy, you should try washing it and then drying with a diffuser and bring out the natural curl

merrymelodies · 03/12/2023 22:58

If there's too much humidity in the air, there's nothing you can do, except tie it back, put it in a bun.

I have the same hair type and had great hopes for this, but the only noticeable difference it made was that it made my hair softer, and it didn’t ‘take’ a blowdry as well, even in the salon.

CanIPutTheTreeUpYet · 03/12/2023 23:01

Mine was the same. I read about this on here and bought it instantly. I have fine hair and it works great! Check out the pics on the reviews.

Keratin treatment, applied by the hairdresser. My hair is now straight, shiny and "just blow-dried" looking all the time. Without it, no matter how much time I spent on it, it looked frizzy and rough-textured the minute I headed out.

MalibuBetty · 03/12/2023 23:08

Ah that's disappointing @Clydagh

pastypirate · 03/12/2023 23:10

Hairspray and plenty of it. I use ellnette liberally or my nice straight hair will look like a mad witch the second it feels the moisture.

Seriously. A shit ton of hairspray.

Makemydaypunk · 03/12/2023 23:15

My hair has gone like this since menopause, I’ve always had fine hair but it was always silky and shiny, now my hair seems to frizz up all over and seems to be full of static, I’ve been using John Freida Frizz ease for fine hair shampoo and conditioner but it doesn’t seem to help.

Ofa · 03/12/2023 23:15

You have wavy hair.

Stop straightening it and instead use Moroccan/argan oil to weigh down the frizz, and it’ll look good.

A blow dry only lasts until hair meets moisture, unfortunately.

FiftyNotNifty · 03/12/2023 23:29

Thank you all! Glad to hear I'm not alone.
If I don't dry my hair it definitely doesn't dry straight, but nor would I say it's wavy. Just coarse and yucky and going in a lot of different directions! Like a pp said I think there have been definite menopausal texture changes.
Oil sounds a good idea altho I worry about adding grease to the whole sorry situation!
When the hairdresser does it it's sleek and blunt and lasts for a couple of days!

I'm the same post menopause and it's really frustrating. The only remedy my hairdresser could suggest was argan oil but that really builds up in the hair and looks greasy within a couple of hours 😳

Was going to say exactly this! It actually gets me down.

merrymelodies · 03/12/2023 23:36

Ah - if you have thick, curly hair, you could try Japanese straightening. I have fine hair so have never tried it but apparently it works well for straightening.

So it stays that way when you go out? What product does the hairdresser use?

i use a shit ton of hairspray. Not fool proof but better.

BasiliskStare · 04/12/2023 00:18

I had a Keratine treatment & I can say that it has helped. ( 2 months ago ) Mine sounds similar bit wavy , but not enough to be useful quite coarse & frizzes at any sign of moisture. Post menopausal here also . After that treatment it is better and stays straighter for longer & more manageable . Just one opinion.

I have also refused to have any layers in my hair for a while now as I find that exacerbates the frizz . So I had a fair bit lopped off but blunt cut. A bit above shoulder height

Lydia777 · 04/12/2023 10:34

As above posters have said, you need two things:

Keratin treatment/12 week blowdry. The at home kits are great if you have a small budget - buy on amazon.

Wow Dream Coat - stops the humidity.

They are the holy grail!

Also no harm in a mask every so often. I love the Bleach London Reincarnation mask.

Finally, I agree with PP who said dont straighten your hair much - scrunch it or put in plaits when wet for waves.

Missingmyusername · 04/12/2023 10:36

Mine won’t stay straight when the hairdresser does it either. I have loose curls now🤷🏼‍♀️it’s just easier.

Your hair won’t just go in to curls by leaving it, you have to scrunch in the curl and use some product then use a diffuser to bring out the pattern - really recommend trying this as you might be pleased with how it looks!

I saw a TikTok that suggested the current Princess of Wales's hair always looks shiny and smooth in all weathers because of the absolute shit ton of hairspray used.

RedRosie · 04/12/2023 11:49

Mine does this. No product on earth has helped. But try wearing a hood until you get to your destination. A hat works too, but not as well.

I bet it does!!!!

I was given the hairspray advice from a friend with an immaculate shiny Bob who has very thick heavy hair that cannot be trusted with half a can. I have seen the evidence!!
