Hair looks nice briefly then goes mental the minute I go outside - any cure?

I have almost shoulder length straight hair. Decent condition i think. I dry it the way the hairdresser showed me - heat spray, barrel brush and hairdryer, then straighteners. Faff about with my "bangs" a bit.
I was going out with friends today and took my time doing it, it looked decent! Smooth and straight. Outside for 10 mins or so, looked in the mirror at our destination- what the actual fuck. Frizzy, not straight any more, not smooth any more. Brushing improved it marginally but it had definitely lost all traces of sleekness. Is there a magic cure for this?!!

Colorwow does work, but you have to use a lot of it.

TillyBananaBread · 04/12/2023 15:58

Hairspray stinks though!
Keratin works but salt free shampoo leave my hair greasy at roots and the shampoos suitable dont smell great.
I just wear my hair natural waves with lots of leave in conditioner or put it up and sleek some oil on frizzy crown on humid days its just not worth the heat damage for nothing. Might be worth doing a salon treatment like japanese straightening someone here mentioned.

ChishiyaBat · 04/12/2023 17:39

@TillyBananaBread Lee Stafford coco loco agave hairspray smells like coconut, it gives great hold without being sticky and it smells divine all day. It's honestly the best hairspray i've ever used.

MrsWimpy · 04/12/2023 17:44

Another vote for colour wow.

I tend to spray it in when it's almost dry.

FiftyNotNifty · 04/12/2023 17:48

Thanks again all!
I use the same products as the hairdresser, but the results are vastly different, which I put down to my crap technique! I will try scrunching and diffusing, thank you. But also just long to be sleek!!

Same problem here. Fine hair that has random kinks in it so just the slightest hint of humidity leads to odd sticky out bits and a weird fringe. I gave up battling with it and cut it all off. Quick run through with a bit of texturiser and I’m done for the day.

FannyFifer · 04/12/2023 18:01

Bet you actually have curly hair.
I used to always straighten my hair, have not straightened it now for about 5 years & it's great, ringlets and lots of curls.

haveyouopenedyourbowelstoday · 04/12/2023 18:34

I had shoulder length hair that straightened fine but went kinky in any humid or damp conditions.
Now I have a short pixie.
Problem sorted!!

FiftyNotNifty · 04/12/2023 20:05

I've grown my hair out over the past few years, from a much shorter cut which behaved itself...i can already see what will end up happening!

As someone said earlier, keratin applied by the hairdresser. It changed my life (and I'm not exaggerating!). It costs about £90 every 6-9 months and I barely use the straightener or any products. I don't have to use special shampoo or anything.

I cannot recommend it enough.

This was my before and after pics with my message to my hairdresser when I washed it first.

I’ve recently bought this home keratin treatment but not used it yet! Has anyone else tried the home keratin treatments?

It's v damp and rainy here tonight. I've been out to a pub quiz. Straightened my hair and blasted it with dd2's Got2B freeze hold hairspray out of curiosity as I usually use Ellnette. Started off crispy and stiff. Ran my hands through it in the car and separated the strands. Just got home in the rain. Hair is still poker straight and so swishy.
Got2B is better than Ellnette. I buy it for dd2 dance classes to glue her bun in!!

eurochick · 05/12/2023 06:03

Tuck it under a hat when you out to stop the moisture getting to it.

tiredandolderthanithought · 05/12/2023 06:29

Hat! My friends all joke that I'm never without one!

I tried to embrace the curls/waves but couldn't get my hair to look nice. I looked awful all the time. Would love to ditch he straighteners but just can't see that happen. It's the front of my hair that's the main issue, it just won't grow so the fringe looks awful. Also once I've slept on it if I haven't straightened it I have to wash it again, it doesn't last!

NOTANUM · 05/12/2023 07:16

Also menopausal and have horrible thin frizzy hair. I’ve tried WOW but was unimpressed: I suspect I didn’t use enough perhaps. I’ll give it another go.

For those who recommend a Keratin treatment, is it okay for coloured hair?

AzureBlue99 · 05/12/2023 08:07

What are the at home keratin treatments recommended please.

My hair used to be straight and silky. The sides still are but the back is now a frizzy mess. Tried embracing it, but it really is 2 different hair on one head. It has been that post meno. Even straightening the wavy bit is hard going. (Hair also gets greasy quickly, never an issue before.) I went to Rome this year. Thought I would have major frizz but my hair felt normal, so I suspect the water at home too.

AzureBlue99 · 05/12/2023 08:07

Forgot to mention I tried Colour Wow too, not impressed

FiftyNotNifty · 05/12/2023 21:30
