Bollocky bollocks I’m too fat for my party dress

I have a lovely party dress that I treated myself to a couple of years ago. Only wore it once but it made me feel great. Got it out last night for a party, and although I got it on, it looked awful, and trying to get it off again reminded me of peeling a chorizo - I was stuck for quite some time. 🤦‍♀️

So now I need a new dress for New Year’s Eve, as we are hosting a big gathering.

I’m a large 10 or size 12 depending on vanity sizing levels. All my weight is round my middle. Smallish boobs, legs ok. Blonde, suit muted colours. Black drains me.

Suggestions of flattering dresses gratefully received! Budget around £150.

I've seen that dress in real life @Britpopbaby it's lovely, good length, beautiful fabric which help to create the big puff sleeves.

Yes, great dress but black is out unfortunately.

The Oasis dress just arrived. I looked like a giant mirror ball. It didn’t suit me at all. So that’s going back.

The pink dress arrived. It fits beautifully and is amazingly flattering! BUT. OMG it’s soooo pink. I think it’s just too Barbie. I need to find this exact dress shape in another colour (but not the lime green that is the other colour way that this one comes in).

Thank you @pepperaunt ! I’m going to keep it over the weekend just in case I change my mind. I’m off up to The Smoke on Saturday so I’ll have a trundle round the shops.

When I was dress hunting for a cruise it was all splits up the side - my left knee is swollen due to rheumatoid arthritis - yeah I really want to flash that off!!!

I keep going back to this dress that I spotted while scrolling. It’s sugar pink - should someone who’s 49 go near sugar pink?? Dd will make vomiting noises I know. But the shape is good, it covers dodgy upper arms, and it’s a bit different - I like different. Probably far too short though.

Aww, thanks ladies. I did love it but I sent it back. It was expensive and I just couldn’t see me wearing it much after New Year’s Eve, and then the annual tax bill arrived and it was 😱 so it felt a bit wrong to keep the dress. I’m just going to wear something I’ve already got. It’s not as glam as I’d like for NYE but it looks ok. Boo to being sensible hey!

I'm similar shape but a size bigger and this happened to me in the summer for a wedding, I couldn't wear my beautiful Coast weddings dress and had to grab an Alice Timperley wrap from the holiday suitcase! I gave up wheat and sugar in a grump but it seems to work. I have been wearing a couple of jumpsuits too, French connection did this on asos (I know, black, but so versatile!
