Best cheap face cream

I am feeling the pinch so can't justify my usual tropic face cream and oil but my skin is really suffering as a result. What is the best cheap off the counter face cream that I can probably pick up in town today? I have tried the q10 serum from Lidl but it's not working for me. Help!

I like Carave and Cetaphil

samestyle · 02/12/2023 10:40

Boots vitamin C day cream

Pigeonqueen · 02/12/2023 10:42

Aldi Nivea dupes.

3beesinmybonnet · 02/12/2023 10:50

I have used E45 cream on my face for decades and my skin looks great. Makeup won't go on over it though, you'd need E45 lotion for that. It's regularly on offer and a big tub lasts ages.

Almahart · 02/12/2023 10:51

Nivea soft (in the tube)

JaneJeffer · 02/12/2023 10:51

Nivea Soft

I know you’ve tried a Lidl Q10 serum but I find the Cien Q10 Intense night cream really good for the princely sum of £1.49 and (I know some will say I shouldn’t, but I do) wear it during the day too with SPF50 over it.

Cotswoldmama · 02/12/2023 10:59

Aldis Lacura rose oil is fab.

Twinklewonderkins · 02/12/2023 11:04

I have dry skin and love Sanctuary Spa Hyaluronic Wonder serum, ALDI Olay dupes day and night cream in red jars and Nivea cream for really dry bits.
i use Skin and Me cream and sunscreen too.

Hi @3beesinmybonnet . Please can I ask what you use to cleanse/wash your face with before using the E45 cream? And which version of E45 do you think is the most moisturising the lotion or cream? Thank you 😀

For mature skin I use Ponds, not sure if you have it in UK. I absolutely love it and it is very inexpensive.

Sybila · 21/03/2024 22:20

Nivea soft

twilightcafe · 21/03/2024 22:25

I swear by Weleda Skin Food Light.

Tarquina · 21/03/2024 22:33

Nivea

TheShellBeach · 21/03/2024 22:35

Boots do a very large pot of Traditional Skin Cream very cheaply.

I always assumed Ponds was a British company, so just Googled it.
Wikipedia thought I meant the body of water favoured by Ducks 🙃
OP, I really rate Aveeno dry skin relief (unperfumed) in the large thick tube.
I'm sensitive to anything else mentioned here.

Best at Superdrug as Amazon have just raised the price from around £2.99 to around £8.00 (but it lasts for months)

Not 3beesinmybonnet but use E45 as well. I'm probably a bad example to follow TBH, I never wear makeup, I swim every day (very drying for your skin) and I don't actually use soap on my face so E45 is the only thing I use. I use the cream which is more moisturising, it's like old fashioned cold cream. I use it on my face and body.

@JaninaDuszejko Thanks for the info. I don't wear makeup either! So do you just rinse/ wash your face with water then use the E45 cream?

DrJoanAllenby · 21/03/2024 22:55

Adeline at night over any moisturise and or serum works wonders.

3beesinmybonnet · 22/03/2024 00:10

@SoapCollector I wash my face with Simplysoaps natural organic soap handmade in Norfolk, plus water and a flannel, every few days when I wash my hair. In between I just use water and a flannel, I have quite dry skin and don't want soap on it every day as I soon get red flaky patches. I use the thicker cream in the tub am and pm. The lotion wouldn't be thick enough for me. Similar to @JaninaDuszejko then, glad I'm not the only one!

Thank you @3beesinmybonnet that sounds like a nice gentle routine to me. I get red patches and dry skin too, I'll give it a go. I've not heard of Simply Soaps, I will check them out, love trying different soaps! Thanks again 🙂

Nat6999 · 22/03/2024 00:22

I use aqueous cream, cheap as chips, doesn't leave my face greasy & can be be used for cleansing as well. 500ml tub around £5 on Amazon.

3beesinmybonnet · 22/03/2024 00:44

@SoapCollector we discovered Simplysoaps when we stayed overnight in a horsebox, in a small wood where they make their soaps, and they'd left a free sample for us. They're lovely soaps and don't contain any SLSs.

@Nat6999 I used aqueous cream as a moisturiser for several years, but stopped when the NHS advised against it as they said it contains SLSs and is very drying.

Astral - £10 for a huge pot.

I always have it and frankly always go back to it.

I buy £££ creams and think wow for a bit, then I realise they made no difference.

I'm still working through my posh beauty advent calendar and got some of that Augustinus Bader cream that sells for £75 for a 15ml and it's shit.

You name it and I've bought it - Elemis, Drunk Elephant, La Mer etc etc

And I keep going back to astral and Embryolisse - Lait-Crème Concentré which is still a very reasonable price (£13 for 75ml) but still far more expensive than astral.

Caveat is I have very dry skin.

What works best for me is hyaluronic acid and astral/Embryolisse (I love this but pricy https://www.drsebagh.com/products/serum-repair but this is also great and frankly the better buy https://theordinary.com/en-gb/hyaluronic-acid-2-b5-serum-100637.html?gclsrc=aw.ds&gclid=CjwKCAjwte-vBhBFEiwAQSvxWjrHPgZsg349b1p9MG2QlEkTTC8NPXwg7XH3cIdirreVK88qNP56BoC-mgQAvDDBwE&gadsource=1) .
