tried again this week to find some things i like with not much luck. its all combats and things covered in diggers, cars, trains, planes, helicopters, pirates, skeletons, grafitti or animals plastered all over it. i don't mind dinosaurs, monsters, bugs, spacechips, aliens, astronauts, rockets etc though. and why do they purposely make everything so it looks as if it as been worn for about 57 years?i can't stand that distressed, ripped look on adults let alone small children. don't really like denim on babies under 1 but least we've got over that hurdle now he's older. can't stand tracksuits, football shirts or trainers either, unless actually playing sport. i used to love buying ds' clothes as a baby, but now it seems like so much of a chore. sigh.

Am not buying anything yet just waiting till the Boden Town Hall sale and grabbing lots of T shirts there - always get shorts from Next as cheap and easy to wash and iron.

Oliveoil · 20/03/2008 12:44

H&M have an offer on, 30% off if you spend £30 or more

or it may be 20% off, I forget now

either/or it is an offer

I always find stuff in H&M

nappyaddict · 20/03/2008 12:47

I use American ebay.
I buy a largish bundle of used clothes once in a while. The postage is high, but the current exchange rate makes the whole transaction reasonable. I find American childrens' clothes are often better made, brighter, nice materials and not covered in slogans and cartoons. There are some horrors to be sure, but I usually find what I need. (You do have to check as not all sellers want to post to UK).

Or there's Kids Should Be Kids? Lovely bright colours and stripes.

The new Green Baby catalogue had gorgeous bright colours too I thought.

JODIEhavingababy · 20/03/2008 12:57

I'm exactly the same. I hate looking for boys stuff in town, it all seems so drab, especially compared to the lovely bright girl clothes! [sulk emotion] and my DS looks so lovely in reds and greens and oranges! (maybe I should just buy girls clothes for him)

Anyway, try Stardust Clothing they are really well made and come in all sorts of designs and colours, or if you've got one near you, P.O.P, they don't sell over internet, but maybe some on e-bay?

nappyaddict · 20/03/2008 12:59

not really keen on buying online. i like to be able to take things back easily and without having to pay postage if they don't fit properly.

i have bought girls clothes for him before

I love H+M too OO.
I take mine and let them choose their own stuff.

nappyaddict · 20/03/2008 13:00

Ds is only 20 months, so can't really choose his own!!

scattyspice · 20/03/2008 13:04

Ahh. yes. Wait til he gets to 3 and chooses to wear a Spinderman outfit ALL THE TIME.

i prefer to get everything we need at the beginning cos otherwise i'll keep buying things he doesn't need and he ends up with far too many clothes. well that was the problem i had when he was younger. can't see me having that problem this year!!

nappyaddict - I agree with you - I like planning out the children's wardrobes too, so that they have several good and varied outfits / looks and not just a whole bunch of mismatched items that get slung together any old how.

I went shopping for my daughter's holiday clothes yesterday... now need to take half of it back... it's SO much easier for girls.

feetheart · 20/03/2008 13:50

My DS is a bit older (2.4) and this year I'm determined to find some bright, funky things for him. Haven't got very far though, just the usual frustrating range of dark, sloganed stuff. He's got a few bright tie-dyed t-shirts but I did those myself.
There HAS to be something out there - can we make it a MN mission?

Anna8888 · 20/03/2008 18:28

There are a few nice bits for boys on the Monsoon site.

lentengrrl · 20/03/2008 18:33

have a look on the nordic kids site, they have lots of good stripy stuff (katvig v good) and cool t's. It's not cheap cheap but good quality and you can resell on ebay...

Pinkchampagne · 20/03/2008 18:35

Some lovely boys bits here www.aztecstores.com expensive, but some good reductions in the sale section.
Monsoon have nice bits for boys too.

Anna8888 · 20/03/2008 18:37

PC - yes, Aztec is often gorgeous

Pinkchampagne · 20/03/2008 18:37

oops! Here even! www.aztecstore.com

llareggub · 20/03/2008 18:40

I've bought some lovely, bright things in Gap so far, but this season seems to be boring, drab colours and army fatigues. I may check out the nordic site. Everyone with boys say the same, why don't the shops catch on?

Pinkchampagne · 20/03/2008 18:45

I have got some gorgeous bits for my boys from Aztec. The clothes are really different, and no dull colours. Just don't click on my first link as you will find yourself on a furniture site!!

nappyaddict · 20/03/2008 20:23

my friend is thinking of opening a children's
shop nearby actually. nothing definite yet, she's just looking into it at the moment, but i hope to god she does. hopefully i'll get a friend's discount too

might aswell pass on people's ideas from here aswell as my own, so:

What colours do you absolutely hate on little boys? already mentioned in op.
What sort of pictures/patterns do you hate/love on boys clothes? again already mentioned.
Any particular types of clothing you can't stand? again already mentioned
Any materials that you hate? - denim on littlies, nylon full stop.

am with you cod - just get things as and when. never plan things out quite 'so'
and shorts and skirts, dresses will do for 2 years if you buy them big enough. lol
