Sezane - what do you think of it?

I’d not heard of the brand until I followed some people on social media who seem to want to promote it. I liked some of what they were wearing so followed a Facebook group called Sezane IRL. I’m finding the group is putting me off the brand. The people in the group all seem very odd, call the products by their names as if they’re friends with the clothes e.g. I love my Betty. On the average person, they seem a bit emperor’s new clothes.
Is it worth the hype?

Yes I like them- but very much stick to classic shirts and knitwear. And no idea what they are called!
It is pricey though but good quality fabrics so I tbh m you can tell.

clowniform · 25/11/2023 12:11

The aesthetic is too frilly for my tastes and fabric quality is quite poor (knitwear actually dire), but I like some of their accessories. It's a fairly standard MC mum uniform around where I am, which also gives off a bit of a cult vibe at times.

Floisme · 25/11/2023 12:25

I've never, to the best of my knowledge, seen it in real life. I've checked it out a few times after recommendations on here, but I've always been put off by the pouty, tousled hair, shirt-unbuttoned-to-the-navel styling. That said, several posters whose style I like seem to rate it so it might be me who's missing out.

SylvieLaufeydottir · 25/11/2023 12:27

I got one of the silk shirts and some of the jewellery for my birthday and I'm pleased with the look and quality so far - in line with the price, I'd say. Some of it is indeed too frilly for my aesthetic, and the whole French-male-gaze-open-to-the-navel thing gets wearying, but I like the shirts.

Colinswheels · 25/11/2023 12:28

I have a couple of jumpers I like but I'm put off by the high delivery charge and the fact some things sell out almost instantly. I wish I looked like the models in the clothes though!

DramaAlpaca · 25/11/2023 12:31

I like their shirts, but they are quite expensive for what they are. I haven't bought anything else from them.

WehIstMir · 25/11/2023 12:42

Sézane is very deliberately cultivating a 'très chic' 'Parisian' style but I like the clothes although I am neither willowy nor young. The knitwear washes well (the Gaspard mohair cardigan is really warm and versatile and I wear it often) and I also like the silk blouses with just the right level of frilliness to go with otherwise simple jeans or trousers.
Customer service is very good - I recently bought a wool coat that didn't arrive and they immediately sent a replacement when I contacted them, no questions asked (as it happens, the replacement coat arrived with the first coat - not their fault but a Royal Mail delivery problem).

I have a dress I bought on ebay that I love. I visited their shop in London which was hell on earth (though I confess I am not a huge shopping fan). The kind of shop assistants who look down their noses at you if you dare to unfold a jumper and so so busy.

I agree lots is too frilly. And their knitwear is pretty and nice colours but not amazing for the price. Imo what they do best is marketing!

OllyBJolly · 25/11/2023 13:13

I've bought a couple of pieces which I'm very happy with. It's a bit out of my price range really but I've found the quality to be excellent.

DarkAcademia · 25/11/2023 13:23

It was my "look" a couple of years ago, but I didn't actually buy any Sezane - I hunted down very similar items on Ebay from M&S and other places, and did it for a fraction of the price. There was a cerise cashmere cardigan for about a million pounds, for instance, and I got what I strongly suspect was a better quality one on ebay for about £25, new with tags, from M&S.

I have one silk shirt from there, which is lovely, but I'm afraid to wash it.

Honestly, if you see an outfit you really like on Sezane, deconstruct what you like about it (apart from the rake thin model with perfect skin in a gorgeous location), and I BET you could put it together from M&S and a dash of & Other Stories. Open a few more buttons than you would normally and wear some long gold necklaces showing through underneath.

It's very much styling over substance!

Also, realistically speaking, a lot of what makes the website look cool is the plethora of slim 25 year olds wearing those lovely jumpers and blouses with short skirts and bare, tanned legs, and while your lifestyle might be very different from mine, I'm not sure I could be doing with bare legs & a mini out and about on a day like today, even with a bottle of St Tropez, just to make my jumpers look snazzier.

DarkAcademia · 25/11/2023 13:25

I do like their frills though. I have that frilly blouse that they do every year, and it's really really gorgeous. Of all their stuff, I don't think I could find a dupe for it (hence me actually buying it).

I love their breton tops - I'd love to know if they're worth the £££ though?

MorrisZapp · 25/11/2023 13:31

I follow Audrey on YouTube, she's adorable but not really my style type. She goes on endlessly about Sezane (so they send her free stuff) and even on her I think it looks a bit weird. She has their popular blouse which has an asymmetrical frill detail, making it look wonky and uncomfortable.

I'm sure the shops and the website look beautiful but I'm not sure if it's real life friendly. The unboxings are lush, they wrap the stuff so elegantly.

ChilliPB · 25/11/2023 15:26

I have quite a few things from them. I don’t think I’ve bought anything for the last couple of years though, most things I have are maybe 5/6 years old when they started becoming more well known in the UK. I have had a couple of things from the archive sales as well, which if you’re quick, can be great.

Overall I’ve been really pleased with the quality. I think they do knitwear really well, and summer dresses, and trousers. I have a couple of work trousers from them which are great - classic cuts but a bit of interest.

I still don’t see it around a lot IRL other than on one friend who likes and wears it a fair bit.

BenjaminDisraeli · 25/11/2023 15:29

I don't know much about Sezane tbh, other than I've looked at the website a few times and found it out of my price bracket, and, happily, not for me anyway.
Just coming on your thread to say that brand-fan facebook groups LOVE to outdo each other in their devotion, how much they've spaffed on their latest haul, etc. All of which has the effect of turning me right off the brand - you too by the sound of it! Another thing that gives me the ick is referring to items of clothing as 'she', or whatever name some bored copywriter's given it.

Abra1t · 25/11/2023 15:36

My Sezane jumper and cardigan are among my most complimented clothes. They are very warm (high quality yarn).

bunnybunnybunnybunny · 25/11/2023 15:38

Decent when it first started, now going the same way as Hush. Too reliant on influencers too.

Any items purchased were during its first few years, and long been sold on Vinted.

I absolutely agree 100% this.

Per Una actually do a few good knock off styles!

The mad frou-frou frills look is getting a bit tired anyway.

Having said that I am currently wearing jeans from there.

yesyesitsaparkingone · 25/11/2023 15:42

I would also say that tops I have bought from there I have worn and worn and worn, so there is def good value there. Also get a good resell price from what I can see.

Teatrayderby · 25/11/2023 16:18

All the dresses seem to either crotch skim or are really long. Not much for work as far as I can see which is the only time I'm out of leggings!

Zengarden001 · 25/11/2023 16:26

I think some of the stuff is great - gorgeous silk shirts and some really nice cut trousers but alas, as with most brands, as it has got bigger and more popular the quality has decreased and as they churn out more stuff the styles are less core brand and more fashion driven.

Britpopbaby · 25/11/2023 17:27

There’s something in their latest collection I like that is £100 plus but that is 100% polyester. I looked at something that was quite similar in terms of aesthetics in Mango which has some cotton content for much much less.

Ruthietuthie · 25/11/2023 17:34

I think they have some lovely things - when I look through the website (and when I check and pick out the things that are decent quality fabrics, not polyester. If a cardigan looks like wool, I want wool, particularly for the price...). But, every time I have ordered something, I have sent it back. The colors are too muted for me (which might suit you, but I need bright jewel tones, and white not ivory) and the knits just make me (I am a bit chunky) look like a block.
I wish I was the long-limbed, tanned person who suited Sezane, but I've come to accept that I am not.
(The stuff comes in the most beautiful packaging too, so I REALLY want to love it. If you want a "slightly frilly blouse" to wear under things, Me and Em often have them in shapes that are more flattering to the shorter, squatter body).

StoneTheCrone · 25/11/2023 17:47

I think theyre beautiful clothes but they dont suit me, I'm broad shouldered and big of boob, plus, they seem to only offer muted tones which i cant wear.

CultureAlienationBoredomandDespair · 25/11/2023 17:51

Funnily enough I joined that Facebook group this week after being tempted by some lovely coloured knitwear and have been totally put off.

The clothes seem too boxy for someone of my shape and there seems to be lots of posts where people struggle to ‘make something work’ usually because it’s not very flattering or the material is so itchy that it can’t be worn as advertised.

PuppyMcPupFace · 25/11/2023 17:57

The shops in Paris are beautifully laid out, particularly the knitwear. Unfortunately it's too short and boxy for me or I'd go for one in every colour.

Some of the styling makes me laugh. I'd look like Dick Emery dressed in some of the outfits.
