Sezane - what do you think of it?

I’d not heard of the brand until I followed some people on social media who seem to want to promote it. I liked some of what they were wearing so followed a Facebook group called Sezane IRL. I’m finding the group is putting me off the brand. The people in the group all seem very odd, call the products by their names as if they’re friends with the clothes e.g. I love my Betty. On the average person, they seem a bit emperor’s new clothes.
Is it worth the hype?

Ordered once, not the quality I wanted at all.

I've been a Sezane purchaser for the last 2 years. I love 50% of their stuff. I can't be doing with the flowery print stuff and frills, but I've built up a solid collection of knitwear, shirts, cropped jeans, shorts and tops.

I'm early 40s, size 8/10 and 5 ft 5. I haven't gotten on with their trousers (short legs) or their dresses and mini skirts (some low necklines, short hemlines).

I try to go for the cotton/merino wool knitwear as some bits are super itchy. I was also not impressed with the neckline going misshaped in the Conrad (?) t-shirts, but overall I've had good experiences and get complimented often.

I always order over £200 worth to get the free delivery, but that's not hard (2-3 bits max).

Forgot to add, I'm usually a size Small, sometimes an XS. Medium in the sweatshirts. The sizing in the item description is usually accurate.

Well cut and nicely designed clothes. Some of it is beautiful and great quality like the Gaspard jumper, the silk Chloe shirt and Scott trench but not all.

I bought a viscose sweater from there which washed horribly and I ended up selling it barely a year after I’d bought it. I sold it on Vinted for £20 with a long description of the not-great condition. Anything with a sezane label gets snapped up on Vinted.

They have a brilliant marketing team.

I hate the pouty, "I'm so French, I've just rolled out of bed and can't find my bra, knickers or hairbrush" styling.

I do like their stuff but I think you’ve got to order carefully. Some of the clothes are too boxy and short and I wouldn’t pay close to £200 for a polyester dress. Not a fan of the gaspard etc.
However, my wool and cotton jumpers from there are great quality as are the leather loafers. Some lovely coats too. Sadly, I think their price point is pretty normal now, if you compare to Jigsaw, Whistles etc. And the quality of Whistles stuff is generally awful.
I think the FB groups can be quite helpful but I do see your point.

I don't know much about Sezane tbh, other than I've looked at the website a few times and found it out of my price bracket, and, happily, not for me anyway.
Just coming on your thread to say that brand-fan facebook groups LOVE to outdo each other in their devotion, how much they've spaffed on their latest haul, etc. All of which has the effect of turning me right off the brand - you too by the sound of it! Another thing that gives me the ick is referring to items of clothing as 'she', or whatever name some bored copywriter's given it.

Yes it’s definitely the naming the clothes that gets to me - calling them she, and worse than calling them The Betty, just Betty. E.g. I bought Betty and love her.

I love sezane especially the knits but I think the thing about the sezane IRL group is that it’s often middle age women wearing the clothes in real life and showing how they work on the non gorgeous, slim, boho, French beauties

Quite frankly most don’t work on the mere mortals but it’s a slice of Parisian fashion and that is worth as much as the clothes to the buyers.

BlackSwan · 25/11/2023 20:45

It's a French J.Crew.
Don't like it.

pharmachameleon · 25/11/2023 22:07

I really love Sezane. That's fine if you don't-each to their own. I have lots of the silk blouses, trousers, coats and knitwear. I only have one dress and don't love the fact most dresses are so short.
I like the French Facebook group and presumed they call the items 'she' because of the feminine/masculine way of naming nouns in French. I kind of like it as the women on the French group are so bloody stylish!
I also love Me and Em, Wyse and Rixo-I spend way too much on clothes!

hello, can I have the link or the name of the FB group please? Thank you.

I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with Sezane. I think I first knew about them in around 2017 and they were really quite different then. Fewer releases, better quality and just generally lovely clothes (it was around the time they had Camille Rowe as one of their models). Since then the love affair has cooled a bit as I find they are less reliable quality and size-wise. They also release far too many collections each year IMO. It's become like a more expensive Zara. Oh and the model poses I can totally relate to ! So hard to tell what an item will look like in real life when the model is crouched down, has her back to the camera etc.

That said I love the knitwear and have 4 knits that I have worn for years and they're still going strong (I wear them A LOT). I just recently bought the Joye dress (an LBD) and I'm keeping it but it is 100% not worth £150!! The resale value is good so that's how I justify paying full price for Sezane when I would look for a discount in pretty much any other brand.
