I am older I look older and it’s ok

I am 61. Was bought up to think looks were very important. Struggled greatly with growing old. Now finally accepting it is what it is. By comparison with the alternative it’s fine.
This is what 61 looks like. Many of my friends look their own version of this and do you know what? It’s ok. I can look at younger women and admire their beauty.

@WingingItSince1973 - looks amazing!!

Thanks for this thread @Iamthisage I am coming up to 60 soon and I have found the aging process difficult to adjust to. So much pressure to look younger and of course we are bound to fail because that would be impossible. Wouldn’t it be lovely if clothing brand used models our age?

Papyrophile · 20/11/2023 21:22

Brands are using more older models. Old models are working for a lot longer, and some are reviving their careers in their 50s and 60s. They still look more beautiful than most -- because they always were. But that doesn't prevent the rest of us from looking decent. We're not young, and can't pretend to be young again, but we can look good at any age, unless you are comparing yourself to a teenager, as long as you put in the exercise and self-caring and take an interest in how you look. I'm old, and I do not expect to look as fresh-faced and gorgeous as my DS's female friends. But I don't want to vanish either, so I do the exercise and buy fashionable shoes.

What a great thread. Thank you, I'm 48 and feel about 100 (CFS) but am glad to be here. My dad died unexpectedly at 36 so I never take life for granted.

We are lucky to be here. I'm just about to cut my own hair too (well, DH with the electric shaver - just at the back/bottom as I am feeling like the Dulux dog just now).

All 3 of you look beautiful!

Confidence and happiness shine through.

Thank you for posting pictures! Was feeling like the Loch Ness monster - am 60 and finally found a job…with young people and I felt like a monster.
very wonderful to see pictures of normal ladies. You know what I mean

SurprisedWithAHorse · 20/11/2023 23:01

Beautiful ladies.

Floisme · 21/11/2023 08:57

Oh! I was ignoring this thread because I saw the words 'older' and 'look' and thought it was another of those 'How old do I look?' threads. Blush (Sorry if anyone's ever posted on one but I cannot abide them.)

Anyway fabulous stuff, should be a pinned thread. I'm afraid I've no photo for you - I'll post pics of my clothes online but not my face - but I salute you.

WingingItSince1973 · 21/11/2023 14:38

Well my pic would be much different today as having a flare up with my illness so have just managed a shower and that's it 😂

Disturbia81 · 22/11/2023 10:35

Something that is bugging me more and more is seeing older men and younger women cast together in films and shows and in books I read but rarely the other way around. I'm hoping it's something that will slowly die out with all the metoo stuff and celebs getting fired due to inappropriate relationships

Wantofeelgood · 24/11/2023 06:56

Yes it’s grim. Always young gorgeous ladies. The most caring was Roger Moore and grace jones. Eewwwww!

Deathraystare · 24/11/2023 09:53

Hmmm. I am 63 and was rather ok about how I looked but noticed some 'across' lines on my forehead I admit I have been a bit lazy with skincare so will get back with a vengeance now! Overall..it cold be worse. I don't smoke and rarely drink and being a chubster I do not look gaunt!!!!

Deathraystare · 24/11/2023 10:00

@Iamthisage
Looks fine to me and it helps that your hair is a neat style. Mine is 'Wild Woman of Wonga' but I actually like it like that. I will never be a 'sensibly put together' type of person.
