Do you feel lucky - designer bags

Hi
I don’t know if I’m posting in the right place but I wanted others views and thoughts how they feel about this stuff.

Little backstory is I have a few designer bags really enjoyed getting them etc I sometimes go out without a bag if not needed etc . Anyway as you do see a few obvious fakes around I’ve never thought too much of it until now.

The other day we saw a woman with a fake LV scarf and as I passed noticed her carrying a very obvious fake LV bag , it had gold writing on in the style of Michael kors.
My partner told me yes it’s a fake I have been trying to teach him how to spot a fake anyway he said to me something along the lines of your lucky you have the real things. Also someone else has commented in the past that I’m
so lucky to have these things .
Do I feel lucky ? I’m not sure I do , it made me think. I feel lucky on a couple of bags which are now discontinued and I absolutely love but a normal LV tote eg neverfull , I’m glad I saved up and got the real thing but I don’t think I feel lucky .

Has anyone else had this feeling? I don’t mind people having fakes it makes them happy and for whatever reason they can’t get the genuine one.
For reference every luxury item I have which isn’t many (under 10 bags) I saved up for and paid for myself with the exception of putting birthday money towards it etc.

Just wondering if anyone else feels this way and why do you think it is etc .

Thanks

I don’t have designer bags, I don’t see the point in them, as every designer bag I see I assume is fake.

Floofydawg · 15/11/2023 06:37

Not really, I worked for them.

WandaWonder · 15/11/2023 06:40

I like a bag because I like a bag, having a designer label on it makes me think I should get paid for advertising for them not the other way around

I am lucky when I find a bag I like

AnotherCountryMummy · 15/11/2023 06:56

I had a dream I found a mint condition Chanel crossbody in a charity shop for £4. That would have been lucky. But I don't really feel lucky about things I've bought with the money I've worked hard for.

Grateful, yes. But lucky, no 🙂

Appleblum · 15/11/2023 06:59

Why would I feel lucky to own a bag when I've paid thousands for it? It's not like I won it in a lottery?

nottaotter · 15/11/2023 07:01

Not sure I have ever thought about it like that, I think whether its designer bags, owning a house , dream car etc I can't imagine people walking round feeling lucky.

I think designer bags are quite common now as well. As above poster put grateful feels more apt.

LylaLee · 15/11/2023 07:04

Yes, you're lucky to be in the class of people who can afford to spend thousands on luxuries.

We talk about the one percent, thinking about millionaires who live in luxury penthouses. But globally, you are in the top ten percent. You're lucky in the same way Paris Hilton is lucky. You're in a very privileged situation.

Orange67 · 15/11/2023 07:04

You're not lucky that you paid a lot of money for a bag, you made a decision to do so and that's good for you.
You're not unlucky if you have a fake designer bag, you probably just don't prioritise spending thousands on a bag.

My most expensive bag is only a couple of hundred pounds. I can't see the benefit of getting anything more expensive. Personally I think the quality isn't any better if you pay 3k. Would you and your husband be looking down on me thinking I wish I was lucky enough to own your bag?

You're not lucky, but enjoy spending your money on what you like spending it on :)

PegasusReturns · 15/11/2023 07:06

I was at a jewellery auction recently and they had a couple of bags. I bought a limited edition boy bag for less than £1000.

I felt incredibly lucky!

BenZodiazapam · 15/11/2023 07:08

No, I feel lucky that I have good friends and family, a decent job, and a roof over my head. A bag is just the thing that carries your things from A to B. It’s great if it gives you pleasure and you should enjoy it, but don’t look down on anyone who doesn’t have what you have. At the end of the days it’s just stuff and most people don’t care, or indeed don’t even know one bag from another.

TheGreatestAtuin · 15/11/2023 07:32

What you describe is not luck though, so it's a strange question.

I remember my husband's late grandad always telling us how "lucky" we were to have a nice house and life. It used to really annoy DH (not that he said his to his grandad who was just very old and meant well) as it was much more down to hard work than luck!

Purplecatshopaholic · 15/11/2023 07:40

Yes and no. Not really as I work hard and pay for my bags etc myself. Some were expensive and worth every penny (to me - my money, my choice). I feel lucky in a way that I worked hard (and was able to get) good qualifications, a good job etc, that allows me to buy things.

justalittlesnoel · 15/11/2023 07:46

I'm not lucky for buying full price designer bags - I'd be lucky like PP if I got an incredible deal on one (that auction limited edition boy sounds like a dream!!).

I quite enjoy spotting fakes but I don't judge anyone for it, some people want the look / style of a bag and don't want to pay for it, it's a pretty valid choice.

I feel lucky for other things but handbags are not one of them!

Twister22 · 15/11/2023 07:56

I never said I look down on anyone with a fake so please don’t make that assumption.
Like I said if others want to do that and it makes them happy it’s good . I personally wouldn’t have a fake it’s either the real thing or not at all.
I think your right wording of lucky isn’t correct and maybe grateful is more appropriate. I do feel grateful that I worked hard to save and use savings on things I like etc .
Just made me think when told I’m lucky to have the real thing.

I’m a handbag collector. It’s not luck, it’s just what I like, and all bought with my own money.

some people may feel lucky I guess. I’ve never had much luck, grew up with nothing, so feel more like accomplishment that I’ve made good decisions and worked smarter.

LunaTheCat · 15/11/2023 07:59

I love handbags and have far too many but no designer ones… just good quality.
I feel lucky that I have a job, a lovely husband, a beautiful garden, lovely friends.

My apologies. It sounded like you were looking down on someone when you had that conversation with your boyfriend where you were both pointed out she was wearing fakes and the lettering on the bag was Michael Kors instead of Louis Vuitton., but perhaps I was wrong

There are people who work hard all their lives, even as young children, but they live lives of suffering. He's lucky to be in a situation where hard work can be rewarded with success.

Many people's hard work only gets them food on the table that night and rent for one more month.

jay55 · 15/11/2023 08:14

I understand and appreciate my privilege when it comes to disposable income and yes I feel lucky.
A couple more month unemployment, an illness, an accident and it could all be gone.

When I was younger and poorer and clueless I bought fake bags now and then. Now I understand more about the drugs and money laundering i steer clear.

RumNotRun · 15/11/2023 08:27

I feel very lucky as I have one designer bag which is a Fendi and was a competition prize. It was being sold at £1100 at the time. I'm not really into bags, or designer stuff, so I do keep thinking I should probably sell it but then I think I'll never own something like this again so why shouldn't I keep it.

Ireolu · 15/11/2023 08:34

The only 'luck' I feel is that I bought the expensive chanels in 2015 for about a third of what they want now. Otherwise don't think much of it.

ShanghaiDiva · 15/11/2023 08:34

am intrigued why you’ve been teaching your partner how to spot a fake bag…why?

Cupofteaandpacketofbiscuits · 15/11/2023 08:40

It depends on a person's perception of the word "lucky" really.

Your partner's use of the word is suggestive that lucky = privileged.

Your use of the word suggests lucky = got a discontinued bag.

ShanghaiDiva · 15/11/2023 08:34

Yes, this. It conjures up images of the pair if you regularly sneering at others, people-watching to see who has the fakes and pass commentary on them. Unless he regularly buys you bags from dubious sources I can’t think why you would need to teach him that.

SparklingSparkle · 15/11/2023 08:52

Quite a lot of LV bags are canvas. I think the really lucky people are the ones who own LV and have convinced people to buy a canvas bag which costs about £20 to make to pay thousands for it. Also Goyard where people will pay thousands for a bag which looks like plastic and is plastic. Whoever owns Goyard is lucky people are that stupid.
