Not much style or beauty but… I’m looking for a really good pair of pull on ankle or mid calf boots for dog walking

worth it as quite pricey!

My daughter has just started work experience on a farm and the advice the farmer gave her was don’t bother with muck boots, you’re paying for the name - she suggested buck bootz or Warm Wellies

something2say · 12/11/2023 17:40

I'd say yes. I've got calf length Muck Boots and they are warm and solid and I think well worth the money. It's like walking on air too.

TeenLifeMum · 12/11/2023 17:40

I invested in Hunter wellies for dog walks… I wish I’d just got walking boots.

Shylo · 12/11/2023 17:41

sorry double post

Dd3 has muck boots and likes them - nice and easy to put on. But she splashes in puddles on our dog walks.

DesdemonasWinterBloom · 12/11/2023 17:44

My Muck boots are so uncomfortable, I regret buying them. I just wear proper walking boots now as they are waterproof and support my feet well. My preference is Grisports.

Honeyroar · 12/11/2023 17:44

I have horses, I’ve had a few pairs of muck boots and they’re no more special than other neoprene wellies, despite being three times the price. They always split. I’ve just bought a pair of Woodland neoprene wellies that were £100 less than muck boots. I expect they’ll last as long.

YourWinter · 12/11/2023 17:45

I had some Muck Boot Company short wellies that were comfortable and super easy to get on, but just didn’t have enough grip. I slipped over on mud and on a wet, leaf-strewn wooden footbridge. Now I have Grubs Midline boots (from eBay), really comfortable and excellent grip but they’re much tighter around the ankle and need a boot jack to get them off.

I like Muck Boot Company long wellies but they don’t seem to last long before they start to leak. I have some zip-up Le Chameau boots too, but they’re really too wide in the leg for comfort.

TooTiredToBeCreative · 12/11/2023 17:46

They are comfortable and keep your feet warm but I have found they only last about a year (worn most days for dog walking) before the ankle part collapses and starts to rub. As I’m replacing every year anyway I’ve started going for cheaper versions of the same style- around £50 on Amazon vs £100+ for muck boots

WowIlikereallyhateyou · 12/11/2023 17:46

They used to be built to last, now like Hunters they are cheaply made and split or leak.

Badatthis · 12/11/2023 17:46

I have an ankle pair which are great and a long pair which have served me well but the tread went in a year or so and now they're frankly dangerous as they're flat on the bottom and slip and slide.

Bought a pair for DH and they split at the heel within 2 months.

I won't get anymore. I think last year I was thinking of a french make but can't remember

WowIlikereallyhateyou · 12/11/2023 17:47

Recommend either a Aigle for long wellies or Grubbs for shorter.

UpsyDown · 12/11/2023 17:47

I have these muckbootcompany.co.uk/collections/dog-walking/products/womens-apex-zip-short-boots-black
I've had them three years now (paid £150 back then). They are so comfortable when walking long distances, almost like walking boots. They get used daily in autumn/winter, through mud and snow, and initially kept my feet warm and dry. However they did start to crack after just 12 months. Only slightly at first, but they're no longer watertight.
I'm not sure if I can justify replacing them at £200, but if they're ever in the sale I'd consider it.

MountainBiker · 12/11/2023 17:48

I love my muck boots. At this time of year I mostly swap between them and slippers!

mapleriver · 12/11/2023 17:49

Not muck boots but I got some Ariat Wythburn boots for dog walking this year and they're great. No damp feet even walking through arable land and overgrown grass after all of this rain. Very comfortable too

The grubs boots look really good

Saz12 · 12/11/2023 18:13

I find them comfy and warm (Arctic ones). The grip is crap.
I buy them in the sales only. Too spendy otherwise. I wear them for work, 5 days a week 9 -5pm, they last a couple years.

I dont find other neoprene boots as comfy or as warm.

Any experience of
Woof wear boots?

I have Grubs, they are excellent. Mine are the Frostline.

PennyPickle123 · 12/11/2023 18:21

My husband loved his initially and raved about how comfortable they were for walking the dog. Sadly, they split and didn’t even last 6 months.

TakingTheLowRoad · 12/11/2023 18:25

Any Aigle boots will do the job - they’re fabulous

NetZeroZealot · 12/11/2023 18:25

I used to love my Muck Boots, but how I prefer to wear proper hiking boots for dog walking as they are so much more comfortable.

Go to Cotswold Outdoor and get properly fitted.

I love my muck boots. Warm, comfortable, a bit big, but that was easily sorted with extra insoles.
