Laugh out loud clothing

IdealisticCynic · 10/11/2023 11:29

I have a pretty much live and let live attitude to clothing. Generally if I see something a bit out there, I just shrug and think good on whoever wants that.

But occasionally I see something that seems so ridiculous, that it makes me laugh out loud. Today’s item: https://www.jigsaw-online.com/collections/dresses/products/roksanda-fringed-knitted-dress-berry?_gl=1agmcle_up*MQ..&gclid=CjwKCAiAxreqBhAxEiwAfGfndMTIbNfmdWln5jIxItMrxST14Bz2p9ljJcfTjpHZdMON3NVzZH9l3hoCiMEQAvD_BwE

How is it sold out??

Would love to see if anyone else has this reaction to some items and would particularly love to see screenshots/ links to them. Very much need a bit of cheering up/distraction today.

I would totally wear that (if it didn't cost 4 grand!)

I think it’s bloody fabulous!

From about 4 years ago, but I saved the screenshot for posterity.

Will Ferrell’s Elf range of clothing 😆

Greatbigfluffytrousers · 10/11/2023 16:31

Tilda Swindon’s wardrobe has exploded all over this thread

Itsnotchristmasyet · 10/11/2023 16:31

I would definitely trip over that!

What I find funny is that these items are always really expensive.

Some rich people have more money than sense and just buy things because someone else said it’s fashionable.

housethatbuiltme · 10/11/2023 14:20

I hope your joking.

I just can't image anyone chooses to dress that shapelessly and unflattering.

My mum is 80 next year, and basically the shape of a baked potato with legs… ever since she had a total hysterectomy at 50.

She has absolutely no interest in whether her clothes ‘fit her shape’, she cares only that they are an unusual or interesting shape, and in very expensive fabric.

She is as happy with people thinking ‘wtf is she wearing now?!’ as she is with people thinking ‘That looks great’.

She wore a hat with a dead bird on it to my wedding. An actual taxidermy bird and a vail on the same hat.

@HamHand lol! I have regular nightmares where I dream I've gone out in my knickers lol

I regularly used to have worse ones where I suddenly realised I was the only one with nothing on and have to try and get home drawing as little attention as possible while wondering what possessed me to go out like that.

PassageDEnfer · 10/11/2023 16:48

@GoodnightGentlemen - your Mum sounds great. I think this is where I'm heading.

Lilacanemone · 10/11/2023 16:49

OP, I have to wonder how it sold out as well unless there was only one to begin with, it’s ridiculous.

sensationalsally · 10/11/2023 16:50

@Itisyourturntowashthebath I want that cape.! Now!

Earlier this summer I was searching for a MOG outfit.
I came across this. The coat was £1,100 and the skirt £730.
I'm really not sure if the haircut is compulsory.

Dreadful! The haircut kind of rounds it off to the height of dreadfulness.

I've just finished Selling Sunset and am open-mouthed at what they wear...or don't.

Was just about to say the same!

And some people have no taste.
All you need with that blue outfit is a Sou'wester and a pair of wellingtons.

Taste and having no taste is subjective.

🤣

Funny you should say that. I had an outfit exactly like that as a child, and worn with red wellington boots. The things my mother used to dress me in!

lookingforMolly · 10/11/2023 17:36

Regarding the Zara coat with knickers there are actually young women on my estate who do wear what look like black midi knickers with hoodies, trainers & nothing else to Tesco..

She is! She is very much herself and so comfortable in her own skin.

Galiana · 10/11/2023 17:48

I'd wear 90% of the clothes on this thread. With few exceptions they're not laughable. I love flamboyant dressing, I get that it's not everyone's cup of tea, but I'm glad that peacocks exist, or we may as well all embrace the Maoist tunic.

I love fashion in all its bonkers vagaries, really love it in a 'The body is a canvas' way.

Why not? I love it when people wear slightly mad clothing. It's just a fabulous way to muck about with identity.

IamEarthymama · 10/11/2023 17:54

With regards to the Blue outfit and that glorious cape, I would love to try them on.

When I was a teenager I worked in a boutique and followed fashion with a passion. In my 60s I don’t need to do that so I dress in what pleases me.
I love clothes with unusual shapes or references to fashion from the past.

Most of my clothes are long and drape-y, I wear net underskirts to increase and emphasise the shape. I like Dark Academia, Lagenlook, Gudrun Sjogen etc, lots of layers and accessories.
However, I also have a wardrobe for walking the dog in the mud that consists of jumpers or tunics with slim fit jeans, so that I can wear my wellingtons!

The other day I had to call into work straight after walking said dog. I was rushing round clad in jeans and a jumper with boots not Wellingtons. ☺️
One of my colleagues was flabbergasted! She said, I can’t believe it is you in those jeans, look at your figure! Several times she commented so I said, oh, this is my scruffs, I love my dresses and long skirts!
She couldn’t seem to understand why I would not want to show off my figure.

I believe for many women wearing clothes isn’t just about comfort or fashion, it is a means of expression. It’s fine for us all to like different things, wear what makes us happy and to smile at people whose choices seem odd to us. As long as we aren’t rolling round on the street in hysterics it’s fine!

Dutchesss · 10/11/2023 18:00

I also love the cape, shame it's out of my price range. *She starts looking for a cheaper cape

This springs to mind:

Is it being bought for someone who's not liked?

Asking for a friend.

Other than the price, nothing about this is laugh out loud. I would totally wear it!

So much this!

I do hand embroidery and love doing clothes for myself (I draw my own patterns and make up my own stitches as well as using the classic ones)… when I wear them I feel like I’m wearing a canvas 😊

Oh I had one of those! A black t shirt with a clear panel with water inside and a plastic fish. They were quite a thing in Camden in the '90's. I'd forgotten about it!

RampantIvy · 10/11/2023 18:22

@IdealisticCynic Might be useful to sweep the floor with I suppose.
