How to dress like a frazzled English woman?

Looks like the latest trend is the "Frazzled English woman" and I for one; am ecstatic.

Bridget Jones, Love Actually and the Holiday seem to be the inspo, so tell me, what are your tips for being frazzled English women?

So far mine are:

  • not brushing my hair for 24 hours
  • only having enough time to put on mascara and nothing else
  • wearing my one scarf that's far too long for me
  • having my long socks peak out the top of my boots because it's bloody freezing
  • forgetting my glasses and spending my day squinting seductively at my computer screen

Question :- does this style mean ironing or no ironing?

I am hoping I might have found my style but if ironing is involved then no.

Giggorata · 08/11/2023 01:12

I think no ironing.
i have a couple of cardigans which have pockets but these have got lower down over the years, so you have to bend down to get the dog treats out.
This look might benefit from a chain for your reading glasses, too.
And a vintage umbrella.

coxesorangepippin · 08/11/2023 01:37

Molly Weasley = style icon

^^

🤩

So pleased my time has come.

YukoandHiro · 08/11/2023 02:13

Good to know fashion has caught up with my life 🤣

Gatekeeper · 08/11/2023 02:44

I would add cardigans/jumper worn inside out
Dropping paper hankies out of the sleeve in a trail Hansel ans Gretal crumb style

Ladyaelic · 08/11/2023 02:47

Love it. I think I've finally found my tribe.

I don’t meet the criteria then, I’m just incredibly knackered but beautiful and I don’t own any ugly glasses. However I wear small cross body bag which contains a lot of various things and adore cardigans. Maybe it still counts…

You definitely meet the criteria with the cardigans and I'm sure you can find some ugly glasses somewhere. You don't even have to wear them, just tangle them up in your frizzy hair on top of your head, then most importantly, forget they're there and spend 20 minutes searching for them. Cross body bags also work, definitely if you put it on last and trap your very long scarf underneath it.

I tried to embrace this look last year and bought the most beautiful hand knit, grey and white flecked wool cardigan at a flea market. I ended up horribly allergic to it, the swollen red, weeping eyes, runny nose and wheezing managed to downgrade the look significantly. Instead, today I'm wearing a multi tiered flounce skirt, cashmere jumper and fleece bed jacket. With woolen socks. I'm rocking it.

Finally, a trend that comes naturally to me without me trying and failing to get it right 😂

I always, always have toothpaste on my top. I blame the electric toothbrush that somehow manages to spray it round the room.

Skin is dewy and flushed because it rained and you're rushing around, red sniffly nose

Hair is unstyled in natural colour, slightly greasy roots, frizzy

Bright yellow raincoat, sporty backpack
Brown/grey/cookie and cream woollen coat with 7 thousands layers underneath in mismatching colours.

Black thick tights with knee length brown leather flat or low heel boots and a knee length denim or corduroy skirt.

Condom hat and super long skinny scarf

Frosty Pink lipstick and little dangle earrings

Small crossbody bag

Literally half the women in my village Grin

MaliciaKeys · 08/11/2023 11:02

Used tissues dropping out of pockets, dirty crumpled clothes and smelling of wet dog? That's something to aspire to? Not for me, thanks.

JaninaDuszejko · 08/11/2023 11:32

I'm mainly wondering what a Frazzled Scottish Woman looks like. Maw Broon probably.

Helena Bonham Carter has it dialled.

SmokeyToo · 08/11/2023 12:19

I always think of Emma Thompson in "Junior". Brilliant character! Also agree with pp who said her in "Love Actually".

I also think of horse hair when I think of this look.

weebarra · 08/11/2023 12:30

Frazzled Scottish woman - the same but damper.

PiglingQuartet · 08/11/2023 12:37

Lol at MN desperately trying to hide a 'how to look' posh thread in plain sight Grin

I am certain a lot of you need to get out more! Live a little. Quit stressing out about your perceived class (which you are so keen to climb up out of), dog hair and beaten up, cliched clothing.

PiglingQuartet · 08/11/2023 12:40

And none of these examples are 'frazzled' they are quite intentional. Artists really do seem to puzzle the prim upper echelons of the WC dont they?

Also think Julia from Motherland went over people's heads.

41Plus · 08/11/2023 12:50

This is me!!!! Finally a ST&B thread for me, only I am half English and half mix of various other heritages 😂. Frazzled English woman, yepp that's my identity.

StiffyByngsDogBartholomew · 08/11/2023 13:15

Clothes from supermarket while you are doing the food shop. Because...
a) you don't have time to go to a clothes shop
B) it now costs a million pounds a minute for parking in the town centre
c) you only do the school run/work/stay at home so what's the point

Deathraystare · 08/11/2023 14:25

@MademoiselleFrenglish
Sounds a lot like me (especially the glasses bit!) However I find it hard to wear socks. The seams irritate my toes!

Yes, hers was the first name that sprang to mind when I opened this thread (haven't seen LA or The Holiday).

itsnotmeitsu · 08/11/2023 18:49

@Pocketfullofdogtreats > My comment is nothing to do with the thread but you've solved an ongoing mystery for me with your comment, 'I always, always have toothpaste on my top. I blame the electric toothbrush that somehow manages to spray it round the room.'

I could never understand why there are white splodges by my bathroom door, or where they came from. I didn't think it could be soap, because why? Hands have been rinsed and dried. Now I know > thank you.

Definitely no ironing.

Also the car has to be rummageable, not just the bag and pockets.
