When did you start going grey? And do you dye your hair?

Just want some reassurance that it's not only happening to me that is having premature grey hairs spout up... I have clusters of grey all over my hair.

They started just after having my 2nd child nearly 2 years ago and I started to get them more after my third child was born 7 months ago.

I'm in my early thirties and used to think going grey only happened to older men and women.

I refuse to dye my hair. But don't know what I will do when grey takes over the whole of my hair.

I’m not sure.. because Yes, I colour my hair. You’d need to prise the dye out of my cold, dead hands, lol - zero intention of Going Grey here. Hair dresser says there isn’t much grey there, more a smattering, lol, but I refuse to find out.

toomanyleggings · 05/11/2023 21:55

Probably about 32 I started getting a few. I’m 39 and it’s coming in quite thickly now. Annoying

whenindoubtgotothelibrary · 05/11/2023 22:01

About 5 years ago. Mid 50s now. Just the temples and a few strands at the front. I'm not ready to go grey yet and I don't think my current look's enough to carry it off - I'll just look older and unkempt unfortunately. Naturally blonde long hair so have just been using blonde conditioning glosses rather than dye to cover it. Works fine so far - will revaluate before I get to 60. I quite like the idea of a future me with a sharp grey bob and a new wardrobe consisting entirely of angular black. Hair would have to go miraculously non-frizzy though.

WeightoftheWorld · 05/11/2023 22:02

I'm almost 30 and look like a badger. I started going grey after I had DC1 at 24 and it accelerated a lot after I had DC2 at 27. There is no history of going grey early in my family so it has been a shock to me and my family.

So far I have not touched it despite some pushing from my DM to dye it...

ElinoristhenewEnid · 05/11/2023 22:03

Mid 60s very few grey hairs - definitely not going to dye it!

When did you start going grey? And do you dye your hair?

17, now 38 and never dyed it. I dread to think the time and money I would have spent covering it up. It's natural to go grey. Embrace it I say!!

Are you properly fully grey now can I ask?

LaughterintheRains · 05/11/2023 22:06

Well into my 50s.

I always had highlights for years but now they are more lowlights to put a bit of colour back.

My hairdresser says I'm about 50% grey now but my hair is dark blonde so not too noticeable.

Rainsdropskeepfalling · 05/11/2023 22:07

I'm in my 50s and have one or two grey hairs ..pulled a few wirey ones out a year or two ago in horror when I saw them and that appears to have scared the others away.

My hair might look better dyed though...

LaughterintheRains · 05/11/2023 22:07

@ElinoristhenewEnid That looks about 50-75% grey to me, comparing mine and what my hairdresser said.

cloudglazer · 05/11/2023 22:07

Early 20s. Stopped dying in my 40s and completely white hair grew through. It is very liberating!

bettynutkins · 05/11/2023 22:09

28/29 first noticed. Few years later I now can't count how many I have as too many. Gone blonde now to hide them as don't want them yet!

PauliesWalnuts · 05/11/2023 22:10

51 with dirty blonde hair and none yet. My mum was all grey by 52 but I have my dad’s hair colour and he was still his natural colour until about 58. I have highlights put in, and have done since I was 16, but lockdown gave me the chance to hack off all the over bleached bits into a natural bob. I expected to see a few, but nothing so far.

Utterlypeanuterly · 05/11/2023 22:11

I'm surprised by the number of people not colouring their grey. I'm late 40s and naturally a dark brunette. I contemplated going grey and stopped dyeing for nearly a year but I hated it and am back to the dye albeit at a lighter shade.
None of my friends (we're late 40s to early 50s) have embraced the grey. I see very few women my age with grey hair and I do pay attention as I have been so undecided about my own hair.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 05/11/2023 22:12

I had a white patch at 12. I was completely white by late 30s. No I don't dye it, the upkeep is too much and I became allergic to dye anyway so that decision was out of my hands.

LivelyBlake · 05/11/2023 22:24

I dye it at home with Majirel and I hate it.

I’m thinking of switching to a glaze like Sebastian cellophane.

Fink · 05/11/2023 22:24

I agree with pp who said that it's more or less noticeable depending on your natural pre-grey colour. I have very dark brown hair so the greys really stand out.

I'm early 40s. I've had some greys for about a decade. They're getting more in number now. I haven't dyed it. I think if I dyed it in the future I would go for something like purple rather than a natural colour.

junebirthdaygirl · 05/11/2023 22:30

Early 60s. Saw first grey hairs about 32/ 33. Dying it ever since...in hairdressers so a lot of dye!! Naturally chestnut but now blonde to lessen the roots impact. Can't imagine when l will stop.
Not very good at makeup/ nails etc but always have my hair done.

WeightoftheWorld · 05/11/2023 22:06

Probably about 50/50 I think but wierdly mostly grey on the top of my head, so I look more grey than I am if that makes sense.

Dontcallmescarface · 05/11/2023 23:08

I think I was fully white by 25....I say "I think" because I've never not dyed my hair. I'm late 50's now and I'll stop with the dye when I'm bald (hair is still very thick, so that won't be anytime soon), or dead.

GreyRooted · 05/11/2023 23:15

Late 30’s, now 47 and don’t dye (stopped about 4 years ago). This was a couple of months ago.

When did you start going grey? And do you dye your hair?
Ponderingwindow · 05/11/2023 23:19

I’m nearly 50. There have been a few greys sprinkled, but really it’s just my hair getting a bit darker blonde. I won’t be dying it as it’s not an option with my allergies. So it’s not be taking a stand, I have no choice in the matter. But I actually am growing quite
fond of the darkening color.

HardcoreLadyType · 05/11/2023 23:19

Apparently I had some a little child - 6 maybe?

At about 50 (I’m now 55) I started trying to help the grey with some extra silvery highlights. It hasn’t ever worked very well, though. I am just happy now to let them do their own thing, now.

bonkersAlice · 05/11/2023 23:19

Late 30’s but you don’t really notice it so haven’t started dying my hair yet but I will when it shows.

DappledThings · 05/11/2023 23:19

Mid-20s. Am now mid-40s and about 30% grey maybe. Never dyed it, not bothered by it in the least.

HappiDaze · 05/11/2023 23:23

cathyandclaire · 05/11/2023 20:09

I had my first one at 17! My grandma was white by 30 so I thought it would be rapid for me - but it's been way slower so I still colour 50/50 white/ brunette in my mid fifties.
My mum stopped colouring at seventy and went fabulously silver, which really suits her, thinking of following the same time table.

My DS got his first white hair at 17

He's 18 now and still only has the one
