Foundation/Concealer for aging skin

Recently I've noticed that if I wear a full face of makeup it creases badly around my eyes and ends up making me look more aged than I am.

Is there a better makeup brand, or type - cream maybe? that doesn't crease and works better for fine lines?

So you want a lot of coverage?

If not I really like glossier skin tint. It doesn't have much coverage but just makes my skin fresh and glowy.

Bonneylass · 04/11/2023 19:15

Completely agree - less is definitely more as skin ages. I recently came across Studio 10 make up - it’s designed for ageing skin, the stuff is lovely

Bourjois CC cream. It is light weight, colour correcting, but not horribly shiny. It has a very gentle matte finish. It really is amazing!

It's not tinted moisturiser - so you would wear your usual moisturiser - but it's not full on foundation either. I can't really describe it - it just does wonders for my flushed complexion which has open pores and fine lines all at the same time. Lovely!

Thatwouldbeme · 04/11/2023 19:19

Oh I got a nice cc cream called eborian, it's a Korean one. It's from boots really nice when rubbed in, you only need a little. It goes on white and changes colour when on your skin.

Sunshineandrainbow · 04/11/2023 19:20

You could try nars sheer glow.

jolaylasofia · 04/11/2023 19:20

i use bourgeois healthy mix

CheekyHobson · 04/11/2023 19:34

Hourglass Illusion Hyaluronic Skin Tint. It is very expensive and I balked at the price initially but after using the sample I decided it was one of those items where splurging is worth it as the results are so so good. A little goes a long way too, it took me two weeks of daily use to get through a small sample pot!

More coverage than most skin tints but still lightweight enough to look like you're not really wearing a foundation, and very moisturising. Lasts through the day.

I have also tried Nars Sheer Glow and that's good too, but the Hourglass one is queen for me.

MandaLynn · 04/11/2023 19:44

Oo thanks all - lots to go and test out

Not necessarily wanting lots of coverage - just a base for the (very very occasional) times I wear a full face. Day-to-day I only wear concealer on my under eyes

I recommend this all the time, but No7 Hydraluminous.

It’s medium coverage, easy to apply, doesn’t crack, flake or sit in creases. Ive tried to stray but this is the only foundation I’ve used and gone back to for years and years.

Homesteady · 04/11/2023 19:51

I caved and tried Il Mikiage. Did the online quiz, got the concealer and foundation. Its literally the best colour match I've ever tried and actually the concealer has such good coverage that I only use the slightest bit under my eyes and only really bother with the foundation on special occasions. You can use it for random patches on your face because the match is so spot on plus the quiz has skin-type questions. Its very light in texture and you forget you've got it on. 10/10 recommend.

MandaLynn · 04/11/2023 19:51

Any suggestions on under eye concealer as well?

See my comment :) Il Mikiage, you'd never know you were wearing anything x

I (53)have tried and liked:

Armani Luminous Silk
L'oreal True Match Nude (nearly identical to the above)
No 7 Hydraluminous
No 7 Essentially Natural
Body Shop Second Skin

Less is more, as others have said. You can't really get away with the full face look, at least not in natural light, without looking a bit hard.

As for concealer... I have found that any attempt to cover spots backfires... I just get a dry scaly spot. The only real way to "disguise" spots is to glam up the eyes a bit in order to draw the eye away. I find I have to be careful about lip colour, as well. I get spots around my chin and mouth and I think pink lips just sort of complements the pink of the spots. Nude lip and a smokey eye will do more than any concealer. Remember that nobody really notices these things as much as we do!

I don't have dark circles under my eyes, but I do have deep sockets/corners. I got great advice from a Wayne Goss video on how to prevent creasing: Only apply it to the inner socket/corner. Don't put it under the entire eye. The darkness tends to be in that corner and that's where the skin doesn't move and crease, anyway. I also colour correct - I use an Elf liquid concealer (the kind with a wand applicator) that's in a very pinky peachy shade that counteracts the blue shadow in my socket corners. I just put a dot in each eye's inner corner and dab it in to blend it out under the eye a bit and onto the lid, where it acts as a base for eyeshadow.

In a previous thread on this subject Boots No 7 Essentially Natural foundation was recommended, and I have found it to be excellent on my elderly and very dry skin.
You can build the colour up a bit or use it sparingly for a sheer coverage.
The No 7 ladies do a good colour match, too.

Yes I really do like it a lot. It can give good coverage without being full coverage.

Looking at the website I see the Hydraluminous one is more expensive than the Essentially Natural [glad to hear someone else likes it too!]
Is it worth the extra?
Although the colour match is good I did find the stick concealer to be very dry and dragged on my skin, a wand one was too shiny for me.

I love Nars tinted moisturiser has really good coverage and I find it more like a light foundation. I’m 36 and find it doesn’t settle in fine lines etc

Yeah me too, love the stuff!

Dior capture totale is fabulous.

Avon serum foundation is a good dupe

beachcitygirl · 04/11/2023 21:07

I had noticed this and a friend recommended elf halo glow. I've been using this and a concealer on any problem issues & had loads of compliments recently.
I was previously using Georgia Armani foundation which was 5 x the price so I'm really chuffed.
It's so reasonably priced

onedream · 04/11/2023 21:16

Erborian cc or bb is lovely, I'm in my 40s and use this brand on everyday basis, both wonderful products I am buying again and again..

fiorentina · 04/11/2023 21:23

I agree re Eborian CC cream and use Bobbi Brown Liquid concealer under my eyes. I use a brush to apply to help stop it caking.

AgingDisgracefullyHere · 04/11/2023 21:25

I would rebuy the No 7 Essentially Natural before I'd buy Hydraluminous

I have this foundation in Cool Ivory, which shade do you use? I like Clinique too but the No7 is cheaper. What skin care do you use with it too and blusher? I am almost 62 and get confused what make up etc to use now.
