It’s my first Christmas party post-divorce. There has been a bit of flirting with a (single!) colleague and in basic terms I intend to pull him at the party. The first new person for me since 1995, and I am certainly feeling it.

I’m 50, 5’8- 5’9, a size L in H&M/Zara or probably a 10 in M&S. reasonably well toned. Tending to pear shaped.
what can I wear that is sexy but subtle?

Love this. You don't mention bust size but beware that Lipsy is not for the big boobed. You need to size up if you are well endowed.

Don't do velvet. It feels nasty and looks awful.

Velvet feels nasty and looks awful? I love velvet.

Expensive silk velvet can be beautiful. Nothing worse than cheap velvet though and that’s most of the stuff around now.

Also it doesn’t really work on dresses - too bulky. It’s better for jackets and cushions.

I work in fashion, I second the poster who linked Ralph Lauren, their clothes are well tailored, chic, well made and cut to make you look the best version of you. The sparkly, velvet etc looks, do not pull men in the way women think. They are kind of thing other women say ‘cool dress’ but that men aren’t that enamoured of.

I’d use the accessories to sparkle, statement earrings, the chainstores do these well, and a pair of comfortable but elegant heels.
