Flattering jumpers for big bust?

I've lost a lot of weight so am trying to put together a new wardrobe. It should be exciting but I could weep at how awful/frumpy/poor quality everything seems to be atm. I'm a tall size 16 with big boobs and an hourglass figure so chunky knits, oversized and high-necked jumpers and cardigans make me look like a barrage balloon. And it seems like that's ALL there is out there. I also find the endless beige, black and navy options really dreary and unflattering on me - I love colour and pattern! I need fine-knits in a v-neck/square/sweetheart neckline, ideally not in block colours. Am I searching for the impossible? Can anyone recommend any brands I should look into? Thanks!

I don't think Woolover jumpers are cut in a very flattering style. They feel a bit shapeless.

Massimo Dutti have some lovely jumpers at the moment, good quality and material. I just bought this red one that is quite flattering as it has a wider neck line than most crew necks.

I really like raglan sleeves too. Always avoid a dropped shoulder where the shoulder is actually sitting on your upper arm. That's so unflattering I find.

Raglans look great if you have normal-to-broad shoulders but, speaking from bitter experience, if you are large of nork, but narrow of shoulder, they don't flatter at all.

Thought I'd report back on the Sosander one. Not bad on my 34JJ 's and surprisingly warm. And no gaping!

Looks great! Good to know warmer than expected.

I love this red jumper @Stokey ❤️ does it come up true to size?

HappiDaze · 03/11/2023 22:53

I can't do jumpers anymore. I get so hot

I love a cardi though

Stokey · 04/11/2023 18:19

@bendmeoverbackwards I think their stuff is generally quite fitted so I sized up as wanted a bit of a looser fit. I'm an 8-10 and went for 12, I think M, which was perfect.

PaperBlinds · 04/11/2023 18:31

@toadinthebucket i guess it depends on your shape in the end. Fixed (rather than tie) wrap tops work for me - deep v and some waist shape. Wrap dresses and ballerina tops are less good, but less about gaping more about where they sit and how they move.

I bought a load of Superdry cable knit jumpers a few years ago, they're crew neck but actually quite flattering on my huge bust. And they're lovely and warm.

They do v-neck versions at the moment so may have to go and have a look.

I also find I look very matronly (or like I've been upholstered!) in high necks, but surprisingly I find boat necks are flattering.

Oliver bonas has lovely off the shoulder jumpers that work well with the bigger boobs

I find short v-neck cardigans like these work if you want something chunkier. Hourglass figures look good with a neat waist.

By the way, the Phase Eight cardigan is NOT orange. It's mustard yellow. Hmph.

I always try and get a zip neck so i can wear as high or low as I like.

When will people stop suggesting v-neck sweaters for big boobs? All they do is point directly at the issue. I hate them!!! They make my knockers look even bigger! the square neckline suggested by @Mercurial123 looks like it would work. @beetr00 that splash print sweater is one of the most horrendous things I've ever seen! Talk about drawing attention to the issue!

KirstenBlest · 05/11/2023 12:10

I agree @tellittothemoon . There needs to be something to draw the attention away from the bust.

Jumpers and big boobs aren't a good match IMO

I'm the opposite - v neck is the only thing I can wear or I look like a pair of boobs on legs Grin
Can't do polo necks, crew neck, round neck etc

KirstenBlest · 05/11/2023 12:12

Polo necks make me look huge, crew or round is ok if not too high.

MerylSqueak · 05/11/2023 14:34

I think it depends a lot on how your shoulders are. A lot if the suggestions I couldn't wear because I also have broad shoulders but they're just that: suggestions.

A V neck actually splits the bust up so you don't look like you have a shelf. I'm huge (34JJ/K) and wear v-necks most of the time and it does the opposite of what you say.

But then I spent years hiding myself because I was made to feel like a freak and spent years looking frumpy and matronly in oversized, baggy clothes.

KirstenBlest · 05/11/2023 15:50

A loose low roll neck is usually OK, as it draws attention away from the bust.
Cable, ribs and stripes not ok, but they look fine on pear shapes.
