Cossie for fat me at spa

I've got a couple of guest passes for a spa thing with an acquaintance. We have to use them by 4Nov.

Of course she is tiny and I'm a size 18 with enormous stomach and thighs.

Is it a norm to wear a swimdress, or even just shorts over a regular costume?

I will dig out out my old costume but I doubt will fit.

They have some kind of feature showers, aromatherapy I think, which is the main attraction for me. I'm aware I might look odd so just trying to figure it all out. If I only need to buy shorts I guess it's not too expensive to make the passes pointless!

I also don't want my ample bosom falling out everywhere. So high chest cut costume + shorts?

I do wonder if I'm going to look odd but then I think it's better than revealing all the flab. Advice welcome!

Wear what you feel comfortable in rather than worrying about what others thing, I actually prefer a bikini, similar sized, proper underwear and high wasted bottoms. Simply be has a good selection for the larger lady

gotomomo · 20/10/2023 17:50

Underwire!

Sunshinebuttercupsrainbows · 20/10/2023 17:51

Snag do a great plus size swimwear range :) I’m a 22 and feel gorgeous in mine!

DaftQuestionForToday · 20/10/2023 17:55

I have some mens swim shorts (they're a lovely print too) that I wear over my swimming costume & a loose swim top.

because of the way my stomach 'hangs' I get a gap with costumes/bikini pants It's not pretty!!

obviously I'd much rather wear a bikini or costume, but no one wants to be subjected to the gap!!

EmmaEmerald · 20/10/2023 18:13

Thanks, I will look up all these

Daft what sort of top do you wear?

In terms of support, I'm not worried about that so much as things being low cut, especially at lower prices, they seem to be low cut...or, they have the awful racer back. I have eczema scars to cover up too!

Most people waft about in their bath robes unless they're actually getting into the pool or a steam room. I have never seen a swim dress or shorts but lots of body types and nobody cares. I'm a similar size and bought a very flattering and supportive swimsuit from bravissimo.

Worriedmum159 · 20/10/2023 22:41

I (6 stone overweight) went to a spa with my most beautiful size 10 friend this week. I thought about being worried but was in my towel/robe most of the time and because she's wonderful, it was a fab day. Try not to overthink it but I'm with you. Completely understandable.

EmmaEmerald · 20/10/2023 22:51

Thanks
I really want to make the most of the therapy pools though so there will be a lot of time I can't cover up.

I've been looking and top and shorts seems better. Though obviously it will cling, nowt to be done about that.

Sorry, I think there's a quick way to make Amazon links shorter but I haven't figured it out yet.

also top and shorts easier for using the bathroom!

I'd say you'll stick out more in anything that isn't swimwear- just bung on a cozzie and enjoy the day. You get all shapes and sizes at a spa and honestly nobody there will be looking.
Have a fab day.

EmmaEmerald · 20/10/2023 23:11

It's a spa attached to a gym though...my experience of gyms has been many many stunning women. I found it intimidating when I wasn't overweight.

I nearly said no to her offer due to my weight.

Ah but remember the thin ones are in the gym - all us fat ones are bobbing about in the spa 😆
I've had membership of a spa/ gym for over a decade- I've been a size 22 for the same length of time and honestly, though it doesn't feel like it, I promise no-one will care what you look like. The only people I ever notice looking out of place are the ones who go in there with full makeup and perfect hair because they spend the whole time trying to look pretty rather than just enjoying it.
I'd treat yourself to new swimwear that makes you feel as confident as you can and then just go and enjoy!

nodogz · 20/10/2023 23:17

Swim skirts take ages to dry so your robe will get damp.

Just wear a normal cossie. It's fine.

Your only an 18 though many are much bigger and all in swim ware

Honestly, I found it was very rare to see a big lady in the gym, I felt huge at size 12.

also just thought...I haven't been a member of a gym for six years or more (had an accident which left me immobile for a while and never returned) so with body positivity etc, things might have changed.

I'll choose something tomorrow. Good point re vest and chest!

Sadly that's very pretty but will be too much cleavage on me.

There isn't a piece of clothing that will make you magically look thinner. Whatever you wear, people will be able to see your body shape. So you may as well wear something you like and something that is appropriate and comfortable for a spa. I go to three different spas very regularly - all shapes, sizes and ages, and nobody judges or cares. I have always found them to be positive experiences and within seconds of shrugging off your robe you won't even think about it.

SadlyACupOfTeaDoesNotSolveEverything · 21/10/2023 06:44

@EmmaEmerald i am a 38GG and find the coverage on the size 18 ample if that’s any help.

Quinque · 21/10/2023 07:08

Lands End are very good for swimwear. Their basic tugless range really do stay put. They also do ruched front ones, ones that are underwired and come in different cup sizes and ones with tummy control.

evryevrytime · 21/10/2023 07:08

I went to a well known spa recently and there were all sorts of shapes and sizes there and no one batted an eyelid. I actually found it very empowering, that everyone just had a great time and didn't pay any attention to each other. We are so conditioned to think that lean and skinny is the norm or the ideal when in fact it's just one of the body shapes along the spectrum of what's out there. There is no moral judgment attached to any particular shape.

Have a great time and hope you find a swimsuit that you feel fab in.

CherryMaple · 21/10/2023 07:30

Lands End is really, really flattering OP.

CoochieWawa · 21/10/2023 07:35

I forced myself to go and wear a swimming costume years ago and it was horrid. I did get horrified stares and patronising well done looks. I would have rather people were just neutral about my body and avoided looking below the neck.
I wouldn't go tbh. but if you must then wear shorts. You're going to stick out regardless if your body is bigger and I'd rather they stared and judged my shorts than my naked skin, it hurts less being judged for my covering up than my own skin.
Sorry but it's how I would genuinely feel. I know we're supposed to say it doesn't matter no one cares and thats the attitude and posts on MN that encouraged me to go but in the end it wasn't reality.
It's not going to be a pleasant or relaxing experience if you're body conscious.

fruitstick · 21/10/2023 07:38

I'm a size 18.

Wear a proper costume. Those swim dresses don't look like they'd feel very nice to be wet in. Probably fine for beach then drying quickly in sun.

Much better to have a nice costume.

I went on holiday recently. Lots of very beautiful women being photographed by their boyfriends as they draped themselves by the pool in very low cut costumes.

I ploughed past them doing breaststroke in my Speedo swimsuit. I was unrepentant.

CoochieWawa · 21/10/2023 07:38

I will say maybeit's because I had a young face and a much older, saggy body. I think if you are an older woman there is less judgment of your body being all toned and tight but if you look young and have a much different body to your face maybe thats why people were shocked a face of 25 on a 50 year old body lol
But I notice less judgment if you are over 40 it's like society accepts that your body won't be fit.
