Cossie for fat me at spa

I've got a couple of guest passes for a spa thing with an acquaintance. We have to use them by 4Nov.

Of course she is tiny and I'm a size 18 with enormous stomach and thighs.

Is it a norm to wear a swimdress, or even just shorts over a regular costume?

I will dig out out my old costume but I doubt will fit.

They have some kind of feature showers, aromatherapy I think, which is the main attraction for me. I'm aware I might look odd so just trying to figure it all out. If I only need to buy shorts I guess it's not too expensive to make the passes pointless!

I also don't want my ample bosom falling out everywhere. So high chest cut costume + shorts?

I do wonder if I'm going to look odd but then I think it's better than revealing all the flab. Advice welcome!

I got some tankinis with cycling short type bottoms last summer and they were great.

This sort of thing

A quick drying swimsuit or bikini is best

nobody cares what anyone else looks like

snd you don’t want to layer stuff (shorts on top of swimsuit) but just wear the cossie and you’ll get a robe to wear over

lots of places do not allow “non swimwear” (eg shorts) over swimwear

EmmaEmerald · 21/10/2023 08:43

Thanks Jay

Theresa they don't allow it? Weird.

Honestly, I found it was very rare to see a big lady in the gym, I felt huge at size 12.

also just thought...I haven't been a member of a gym for six years or more (had an accident which left me immobile for a while and never returned) so with body positivity etc, things might have changed.

I'll choose something tomorrow. Good point re vest and chest!

Sadly that's very pretty but will be too much cleavage on me.

Edited

A spa is very different to a normal gym though you really won't stand out.
Enjoy it

whereisthecheese · 21/10/2023 08:54

Honestly just wear a swimming costume. I'm a size 22, all my friends are an 8. You'll look fine honestly

@EmmaEmerald also you're clearly going to the wrong gym.

I go to the gym regularly and there are all sorts of shapes and sizes.

Also, you're in a gym. You're clearly going to exercise and feel better either mentally or physically.

Everyone else can fuck off.

I don't go to a gym.

Right, I'm going to choose something that can be delivered in time as well. Thanks everyone.

Completely agree getting a really nice, supportive & well fitted swim suit looks much better on larger sizes than wearing a swim skirt or some big shorts combo - draws attention more and for the wrong reasons IMO

CrystalMaisie · 21/10/2023 10:22

Bravissimo do a wide range of lovely swimwear, bra sized and supportive in all the right places.

ThreeCanKeepASecret · 21/10/2023 10:33

I’m a member of a spa with a gym, I’m a size 14 now but was an 18 at one point. There will always be people much bigger than you there so do not worry.

I wear these swimsuits. I swim four times a week and they last about four months before the chlorine knackers them (which is longer than the speedo shapewear equivalent).

I'd say you'll stick out more in anything that isn't swimwear- just bung on a cozzie and enjoy the day. You get all shapes and sizes at a spa and honestly nobody there will be looking.
Have a fab day.

Absolutely agree.

I'm overweight too and I actually think covering up is pointless. It's the same shape...you don't suddenly look thin. You just look the same size but covered up. I think most overweight women would look better in a nice one piece swimming costume than swim shorts and high neck stuff.

I like those too @ThreeCanKeepASecret . Are they true to size?

Talipesmum · 21/10/2023 10:48

Beware of the swimsuits that are sort of “double layer” at the front (often the ones I have - size 16/18 - are, as they have ruching etc). If you’re in a jacuzzi with bubbles, the bit between the two layers of material fills with air and you get a big puffy bag of air on your front that rises up like a giant inflatable bosom. It’s quite funny but not very elegant!

No, I don’t think they are (sorry I should have said that 🙏). At an 18 I used to buy the XL, now I am a 14 I wear L.

They do do what I find everything does after about four months, which is go a bit see through at the back. I used to love the Speedo Brigitte but found that they were really see through after two and a half months, so about 60 hours in the pool for me.

These cheaper Amazon ones seem to be OK for about 100 hours, I am on my fourth one.

TheresaBouvey · 21/10/2023 11:05

They don’t allow any underwear (DH boxers) of outerwear (dv shorts/t shirts) in the pools I go to

not weird, think it’s for hygiene reasons

theduchessofspork · 21/10/2023 11:08

I am a shorts and Tankini person on the beach, but at a spa I think I would go swim dress.. or long Tankini with fitted (ie cycle style shorts)

I am v plus sized and right now my thighs are firmly under wraps

There are women’s swim shorts though. They would be fine.

Spinet · 21/10/2023 11:15

I'm huge and I go to spas all the time. I'm allowed to exist and I'm allowed to cosset my body same as a thin woman is; it's carried me round faithfully all this time. Just style it out and think about the sensations rather than the look. So boring having to worry about what you look like all the time.

electriclight · 21/10/2023 13:23

It's awful that a pp said she was stared at and felt uncomfortable when she went. That has truthfully never been my experience at all. I just don't think a uk size 18 is that unusual that people would notice.

I hope you find something you like and feel good in it op. You should post a link as it might help other people who are looking.

EmmaEmerald · 22/10/2023 13:29

So, this top arrived today - well, the whole thing arrived! But I'll use the bottoms for general knickers I guess. Bought the 3XL.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0BXPKBMTY?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1&psc=1

Also got some boy shorts or whatever they're called, in a local shop this morning, down to £6. About mid thigh.

Have tried it all on and feel so much better about it now, sorted, and not too expensive for just a couple of spa days.

I won't be doing energetic lane swimming anyway and if there's any weird floatiness in the treatment pool or jacuzzi, I can tuck the top into the shorts.

It's only thanks to MN that I actually knew the boy shorts existed! Thanks all.

Brilliant OP! I'm pleased you've found something you're happy with. Enjoy your spa day.

LeonBlack · 22/10/2023 15:46

Just wear a good swimsuit. Don't feel you have to wear a hideous swim dress or swim shorts. They just look terribly sad. There will be all shapes and sizes, and no one will be care.

EmmaEmerald · 22/10/2023 17:55

@LeonBlack you didn't read my update then 😂 btw if a man can wear swim shorts....

@SaracensMavericks thank you.

Random edit - just discovered two of mum's friends go to this place - really hope they don't go in evenings as it would totally spoil the experience to bump into them (horrible people).
