Heels for a wedding - for someone who can't wear heels!

I am looking for nice shoes for a wedding I have in early Nov.

I seem to manage in a low heel for a while but I really struggle. One of the best pairs I ever had were actually from Lidl they had a decent heel, about 4 inch and I stay all night in them.

This is a dress I wore to a wedding a few years ago. The one I have for this wedding is a lighter shade of blue but similar design.

The new one I have is very plain also. What accessories would you think? It doesn't have a belt the new one.

Budget for shoes - if I will only be in them for a few hours and never wear them again £40 if I could wear them again £100

Belt/ necklace - I'm really not sure but not a lot. I WFH and live on a farm I don't dress up much ever

Gabor or pavers have low heel court shoes comfy

Graciebobcat · 09/10/2023 16:19

I am rubbish with heels but find platform sandals ok - as the front is raised too the heel isn't forcing your weight forwards as much. Something about the shoe being strapped on rather than slipped on really helps too. I am ok with ankle strap wedge heels.

The most comfortable shoes to dance in are...dance shoes, particularly with a cuban heel. I have been known to take latin dancing shoes just to wear indoors.

I love heels, but if you really struggle, why wear them? Why not find some nice flats?

itsgoingtobeabumpyride · 09/10/2023 16:27

We have a bag rule in our family for "do's".
You need a clutch bag big enough to fit a pair of flipflops in.
Heels for the posh part of the day, flipflops for the evening when your feet are killing you.
Don't get me wrong, I love an outfit with a pair of killer heels, got the bunions to prove it 😁

RosesAndHellebores · 09/10/2023 16:33

Why do you need to wear shoes that are uncomfortable for any part of the day. Wear smart, low, comfortable shoes.

pontipinemum · 09/10/2023 17:12

@WeWereInParis I they just don't look right with a dress and my legs look better with a heel. I was great for heels in my early 20s but a decade on I am brutal can't wear them at all. I want to look taller, I am 5'4 DH is 6'2
I think I am looking for an elusive 3/4 inch heel that is comfortable and stylish.

I can't operate on heels either.

When my DD got married I got some ballroom heels from Amazon. They were in silver lace that went with my outfit, I could choose a heel height and heel style. They were also lightweight and had a suede sole that made dancing easy
I chose a low heel that kind of flared out at the bottom so I was more balanced. They were £15 then but similar are less than £25 now.

Towerofsong · 09/10/2023 17:18

One example, see in the description how there are different heel heights available

Check out Vionic shoes, they are orthopaedic but still look stylish. They have all sorts including heels. They aren't cheap but you can get discount for joining the mailing list and sometimes get them reduced on Amazon. www.vionicshoes.co.uk/women/wedges/jacynda-kitten-heel.html?color=923

mambojambodothetango · 09/10/2023 17:36

Not helpful, but I am past caring that my legs look better in heels. I'd rather be comfortable and enjoy myself. Who cares how your legs look?

Flats can look really frumpy with skirts though...

JaneJeffer · 09/10/2023 17:44

Get some platform sandals. They give you height without crippling you.

I can't cope with heels but when I got married I wore some low heels from simply be. I think they were these. They were wrecked by the end of the night but I managed to wear them until mid reception and we did walk quite a bit in the day for pictures and things. I am not exaggerating when I say I absolutely can't wear heels! Obviously I know you're a guest but hopefully you can find something like this. www.simplybe.co.uk/shop/p/am773

I agree. I hardly ever wear heels no matter how dressy the occasion. I wouldn't wear heels with that dress.

No they don't. Heels if anything can look very passé now.

WeWereInParis · 09/10/2023 17:55

I agree. I've been to weddings this year and seen plenty of flats with dresses.

Personally, as I said, I love heels, can dance all night in them, and for events like weddings they can be prised from my cold dead hands, regardless of whether they're currently out of fashion. But flats are really not an uncommon sight. Neither are heels though.

jay55 · 09/10/2023 17:56

They are not the most stylish but Joe Brown t bar or Mary Jane heels are really comfortable.
I've some a similar shape to these and can manage an evening in them.

You're right- you see both at formal events. Both are fine. Personal opinion I think heels are better with very long or very short dresses, but not knee length. The important thing, which you've obviously mastered, is that they're comfortable.

icantthinkwhatusernametouse · 09/10/2023 18:12

I'd find some really special flats. Fuck being uncomfortable I hate heels and refuse to wear them

hipposinacircle · 09/10/2023 18:29

I really like a low block heel for this sort of situation. So much more comfortable than anything high. Something along the lines of this: www.newlook.com/uk/womens/footwear/shoes/occasion-shoes/rose-gold-shimmer-2-part-mid-block-heel-sandals/p/852718394

RosesAndHellebores · 09/10/2023 19:00

@pontipinemum I hear what you say but if your feet hurt it will show in your face and you won't enjoy the day. If your feet are comfy you will smile and be radiant.
