Which outfit? And shoes help!

For a wedding in a couple of weeks. I have both outfits and probably prefer the skirt but wonder if not smart enough.

And in either case - what shoes (or boots?)? I can't wear high heeled straps sandals like the models! Might even need tights?

They’re both very drab for a wedding! Sorry, I know you say you already have them - I guess they’re fine for work, but … Black and beige are rather deadening together.

What colour top might you wear with the skirt?

chalkyc2 · 09/10/2023 13:27

Haha @Gruelle - they're both way fancier than anything I normally wear!! I don't really like patterns (def no floral) - so I'm not so keen on the dress for that reason. I also don't really much like colour!! The skirt is black and gold. Have a cream/sparkly top and a jacket. And I wondered about some gold ankle boots and a bag.

But...it's not too late...any suggestions?!? Am medium height and build, fair colouring.

Sorry - just saw this; black and gold dress. 😍

That East dress is so elegant, and I don't usually like sequins. Marking for myself in case I actually go to any parties this year.

chalkyc2 · 09/10/2023 14:05

None of them are really my thing am afraid!!

I'll probably stick with my drab skirt!

Careful with a cream top at a wedding, when you're sitting down it'll look like you're wearing white. I quite like the skirt, what fabric is it? I hate tights at a wedding, what about these shoes? Mary Janes and flats are having a moment.

chalkyc2 · 09/10/2023 14:30

More detail on the skirt - it's fancy I promise!!

Good point re cream top...

I really like the dress OP, much more than a the skirt/top combo

Gruelle · 09/10/2023 14:38

Fair enuff, @chalkyc2!

But now I’m on a hunt for relatively colourless, modestly priced wedding guest dresses … Just ignore me. Grin

Good opportunity for this black Colenimo dress. And three interestingly plain Massimo Dutti frocks.

@Gruelle Modestly priced..! Not everyone has £250 to spend on a dress when they have two perfectly nice outfits sitting in the wardrobe. OP is just being a sustainable queen. Also she's looking for an outfit for a wedding, not a Halloween costume to go as a Victorian orphan.

Gruelle · 09/10/2023 14:44

Perhaps you should read my post again? Hmm

MerryChristmasToYou · 09/10/2023 14:49

The dress.

Oldthyme · 09/10/2023 14:50

I like the dress. Add plenty of bling and defo wear tights. Could be a cool day so tights finish and add “polish” to an outfit and keep you warm(er).

I hope you have a great time.

chalkyc2 · 09/10/2023 14:57

I can do tights and bling 🙂

Plump82 · 09/10/2023 15:06

Some of these suggestions look like old sacks and absolutely nothing like what the OP has said she has, so probably not anywhere near the style she'd go for.
OP I love that skirt. I'd go for something gold to bring our the gold in the skirt and it wear it with pointed toe flat shoes.

The first dress is absolutely fine and some gold courts or sandals would be ok

LOL at the black Victorian sack at £250 being posted on the thread. Gawd love MN.

Lentilweaver · 09/10/2023 15:17

I am normally the first to cry "overpriced sack" but I actually like that first Massimo Dutti beige dress. It is super expensive though. I think the sack style is growing on me. 😂

But I also think either of the OP's outfits would be fine with some bling.

I like the gold / beige sack too.

just the black numbers giving me haunted Victorian washerwoman vibes

whatdoidoaboutit · 09/10/2023 15:53

Definitely the dress.

mrsmingleton · 09/10/2023 15:55

@chalkyc2 I really like your first dress and think it very appropriate. It's much better than anything else that has been suggested here.

GalileoHumpkins · 09/10/2023 15:58

Definitely go as a potato sack. Honestly, why do people suggest the most hideous things?
Your dress is fine for a wedding, it's not drab at all.

thebear1 · 09/10/2023 15:58

I like both OP, think both with the right accessories will look nice. But then I don't do colour either.

DresdenDoll · 09/10/2023 15:59

I like your skirt and dress, I think either is fine. The gold top posted above would be lovely with the skirt

Gruelle · 09/10/2023 16:02

It is super expensive though.

It’s certainly at the higher end for Massimo Dutti, but it is silk. (Albeit mulberry silk.) It would catch the light wonderfully at dusk or in candle light at a wedding / reception.
