Am considering a blind buy of Laura Mercier's Vanille, can't get to a John Lewis at the moment and our Boots don't stock it.

I already have Milk Musk by Molten Brown but there's something in there that I really don't get along with, plus it really doesn't last. I like a mature, sensual scent, can be gourmand, but I would prefer non-unisex.
I want a warm hug with a bit of ambiguity. Sweet yet subtle. Somewhat multifaceted, but each note needs to sing. So this is a winter thing, so not particularly fresh but not oriental either.

Perfumes that I just don't get along with or fade too quickly:
By the Fireside (just harsh on me).
All Byredo and Diptyque!
All Jo Malone.
Chanel and Dior.

What I do get along with, at least historically:
Cookies and Cashmere (clinique?).
Body Shop's blue musk - but it does not last aaagh!
Orange soleia by Guerlain (but for summer only, and again no longevity).
Some rose scents.

I am not a perfume snob and love Lidl's Chantou, it actually sticks around, but it isn't quite 'me'. I am happy to pay up to £80 or thereabouts.

Penhalligons ARTEMISIA is a bit more perfume snob territory but lovely and a deep vanilla base with fresh overtones. Though at £80ish for 30ml it’s even more expensive than Jo Malone.

Lancome hypnose is very vanilla bit not sure if still around. I think discontinued

It’s been discontinued🙁. It was amazing. Divain do a perfect copy though.

Body Shop vanilla ?? Guessing that's a bit basic

CatMattress · 05/10/2023 22:28

I used to adore Crabtree and Evelyn vanilla. You've inspired me to find something vanilla for the winter!

mintich · 05/10/2023 22:32

Another vote for Kayali Vanilla

Not really when you consider that the Penhaligon’s is eau de parfum compared to Jo Malone cologne. JM pricing is an absolute masterclass in audacity!

Seconding Dior Hypnotic Poison.

Ah was going to suggest this one also was just checking the name on the bottle. This one is definitely vanilla

Another vote for this! I always feel that perfume disappears on me but got this at the start of the year after a recommendation. I love it and every-time I wear it, someone compliments it.

SunflowerOranges · 05/10/2023 23:15

I got a bottle of Kayali Vanilla as a gift and it's the most gorgeous vanilla perfume ever.

EtiennePalmiere · 05/10/2023 23:58

I love vanilla scents! Especially when they're not too sweet. Are you sure Dior is out? Hypnotic poison is wonderful. There's dkny cashmere too but that might be discontinued

ArielManto43 · 06/10/2023 00:10

Electimuss Imperium. Lovely citrus vanilla, with some florals - it actually reminds me of those little custard tarts you get from Portugal. It's described as leaning more masculine, but personally I don't see it that way. Just a lovely lemony vanilla gourmand.

Gowlett · 06/10/2023 00:13

There’s a nice vanilla one in &OtherStories. The almost Chapter, I think? Or A Poem A Day. From that range, anyway.

The Lost Chapter

Dior -poison

ThanksItHasPockets · 06/10/2023 06:54

Which Diors didn’t you get on with? Miss Dior is an inoffensive floral with a lot of vanilla in the base notes but as PP have said Hypnotic Poison fits your brief very closely. It is an amber floral but wears more gourmand on me, with a strong almond note that can give marzipan or PlayDoh on some people. It is not a safe blind buy but worth testing. Make sure you get the ‘Hypnotic’ flanker and not the original Poison, which although a classic is completely dominated by tuberose.

EthicalNonMahogany · 06/10/2023 06:56

You need to pop back to 1991 and go to the Body Shop.

strawberriesandsun · 06/10/2023 08:16

I was going to suggest Liz Earle No 15

Black Opium Le Parfum variant - name is slightly confusing but that version is 4 x Vanilla and lovely. www.fragrantica.com/perfume/Yves-Saint-Laurent/Black-Opium-Le-Parfum-78427.html

ButtercupsBluebells · 06/10/2023 10:06

I wear Vanillary from Lush and get loads of compliments on it. It's so comforting, perfect for this time of year.

HundredMilesAnHour · 06/10/2023 11:01

I like Kayali Vanilla but my absolute vanilla favourite is Goldfield & Banks' Silky Woods but that's a lot over budget.

Have a look at Cra-Yon Vanilla CEO. I use that as my everyday vanilla perfume.

That’s very true. Yet here I am sat admiring the Christmas collection 🫣.

Back21970 · 06/10/2023 15:03

Goddess is quite vanilla and gorgeous- on my wishlist if there’s any Black Friday offers.

Perfume sense to have got very pricey of late - noticed in Boots a lot of 50ml sizes are around the £100 mark.

Vanilla oil is nice too, I bought some roller ball ones off Ebay, good cheapo option.
