Is anyone else a bit addicted to buying stuff on Vinted?

It's only been a couple of months since I was saying to someone 'oh I prefer being able to try stuff on'. Then I thought I'd download it to get a few bits for the kids. I bought one top for myself and haven't looked back. The combination of cheapness and non-environmental guilt and being able to get things that are in better condition than charity shops (great for e.g. summer dresses but jumpers are generally bobbly).
There really is a lot of stuff in my wardrobe that needs replacing, like t shirts with small holes in that I've kept for wearing under jumpers - and then feel that I can't take the jumper off. And I've been really lacking in-between clothes than aren't winter and summer. So some of it is practical, honest, but I have to step away from the app! Bought so far: three jumpers, two jumper dresses, three plain t shirts, six slightly more fancy tops, two hoodies, three jackets, a denim skirt (turned out to be the wrong size) a jumpsuit which I love but let's see if I'm brave enough to wear it next summer. Total £130, including postage and fees.
Anyone else got a bit hooked?

Yes. If you were to go out and buy all those items brand new, how much would you spend? At least £300 I reckon

Cyclingmummy1 · 01/10/2023 22:18

I think I'm addicted to selling; my wardrobe will be empty soon 😆

MissDollyMix · 01/10/2023 22:22

I am also completely addicted. Probably spent £200 on clothes for me and the DC. Oops!! Need to get on and sell something but can’t imagine anyone would be interested in my old tat!

Blinkityblonk · 01/10/2023 22:27

Me! But I do sell on anything that doesn't fit/suit me straight away and I've sold some stuff as well, so I reckon I've not spent a crazy amount. Plus I buy new with/without tags for shoes and bags (or one wear is fine too if clearly unworn for shoes) and I have some absolute bargains. I know what size my shoes are in certain brands, and buy those new. Do need to step away from the app though on occasion and really think if I need anything else (probably not).

divingworldchampion · 01/10/2023 22:28

Yes! I was just having a conversation with myself about how addicted I'm getting! Today I have bought two Pull and Bear jumpers for
DD15, a Zara playsuit thing for next summer and a H&M blouse for myself. I need to stop looking!

LifeofBrienne · 01/10/2023 22:30

I haven’t bothered to sell anything, as almost everything I’ve bought has only been £1-3 for the seller and some things have been up there for months. I am being inspired to clear out my wardrobe but it’s all going to charity shops or textile recycling.

No. I have enough old tat in the house without buying someone else's.

RosesAndHellebores · 01/10/2023 22:33

Nope. The thought of wearing something that has been next to somebody else's sweaty armpits horrified me. I'd rather buy less.

Summerhillsquare · 01/10/2023 22:36

Yes, completely love it. Swanning about in a silk Dickens and Jones kimono I got there at the moment.

Blinkityblonk · 01/10/2023 22:38

@RosesAndHellebores my dd worked in retail and a lot of items are resold that are returns or have been worn and 'refreshed'.

If you buy new with tags on Vinted (which I mostly do) then the item is the same as if you went to the shop and someone tried it on once in the changing rooms and didn't purchase it.

Just a thought!

You do know you can wash them first? 🤔

I was a bit addicted and had a number of brilliant buys until last month when a couple of very dodgy purchases have put me off.

One was a size 12 monsoon rain jacket which when it arrived turned out to be a M&S child 4 year old jacket which absolutely stank and was covered in stains.

Seller did not respond to my messages and eventually Vintage asked me to return it at my own cost, I was going on holiday and didn’t get round to it on time and the transaction went through as completed.

The same week I received a Holister sweatshirt that had a huge sticky label on the cuff that I can’t get off which was not visible on the photos - I messaged the seller and they said they hadn’t noticed it - can only assume they have an eyesight problem as you can’t miss it!

Both transactions were about £10 each in total, so £20 wasted which isn’t the end of the world, but will certainly be making me a bit more cautious as if your unsatisfied with what you receive you seem to have very little comeback as a buyer.

Fine if something doesn’t fit or suit, fair enough, happy to take the hit, but both these purchases really annoyed me as the sellers were in my opinion total chancers.

Will be checking seller feedback from now on before I buy anything else.

Yep us too!! Although we have bought a fair bit of needed stuff......

14blackcrows · 02/10/2023 05:02

I love it! Saves me a fortune on kids clothing and shoes. Obviously with primary aged kids they grow so fast this clothing is all pretty much brand new anyway. So I get all lovely Boden kids wear for a fraction of the price. I don't understand why anyone actually buys new kids clothing... altho I'm glad they do coz otherwise I wouldn't end up on Vinted after a few wears!

PinkMoscatoLover · 02/10/2023 05:05

I’ll never buy a thing on Vinted but I absolutely love selling things on there. Such an easy process and I’ve made a lot of money. Just sold a brand new H&M dress that I bought in the sale for £15, for a tenner. Lovely stuff:)

sawnotseen · 02/10/2023 06:50

Me too! I bought my outfit for my neices recent wedding from Vibted - dress, sandals and fascinator. I will now sell them on. Dress was £10 new with label £115 frock and frill. Sandals are M&S autograph -£2 like new.
Currently waiting for a blouse and a pair of boots to arrive. Will be sending a Helly Hansen jacket that my son has outgrown and a YMC t shirt today. Sold them for much more than my two purchases so quids in!

Floisme · 02/10/2023 07:03

It sounds totally addictive which is one of the reasons why I've avoided it so far. You could argue I'm addicted to charity shopping, and you would have a point, but at least I have to get dressed and leave the house to do it.

JofraArchersFastestBall · 02/10/2023 07:13

I've had to delete it. I got so I was checking for bargains multiple times a day, and buying things I just don't need.
I need to do a massive sort out and sell some things.

Cantonet · 02/10/2023 11:21

Nope.
I can't stand vinted. Everything looks crumpled & drab & the pictures are mostly dreadful. But that's probably a good thing for me. I don't need any encouragement to buy more clothes.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 02/10/2023 11:24

Yes I love it. I’ve missed out on lots of lovely things over the weekend, I favourite them and go back and they have sold. Agghhhh

I sell most of DD things outgrown. Mine which I won’t wear again. Toys, books it all seems to go.

Coffeedrinker7 · 02/10/2023 11:29

I love it! I’ve had to give myself a strict ‘only buy with my Vinted balance’ rule now, so I only let myself buy something once I’ve sold something. So it’s basically a free clothes swap service 😁

artishard · 02/10/2023 11:39

This is so me! I've even been able to hunt down a couple of garments that I've loved and worn to death at bargain prices.

My only gripe is the in inpost locker by me has been out of order for the last 3 weeks, rendering me unable to collect a few items that I'd ordered (presumably still stuck inside, as the sellers haven't had them back either!) Not the fault of vinted at all, but going forward I'll pay the extra for home delivery.

If I see something i like online or IRL I can trawl vinted for a dupe. I dont buy things for the sake of it though!

SlightlygrumpyBettyswaitress · 02/10/2023 11:57

My never ending search for tops that cover my 36ggs and are made from cotton is continuing on Vinted.
It's cheaper and easier than shops

grumpycow1 · 02/10/2023 12:29

Yes! Got a Stine Goya dress which would have been well over £200 for £35!

uncomfortablydumb53 · 02/10/2023 16:01

I absolutely love Vinted!
I mostly buy BNWT or VGC used, but look at photos carefully
One of my favourite brands is brakeburn which I only buy in the sale
Lovely quality natural fibres
I'm actually wearing a top BNWT which was £49.99 new for £6
A M&S black padded jacket £69 BNWT for £7
I could enthuse about my bargains all day!
