Bobbi Brown - discontinued so many products

What's going on?

They are slowly discontinuing everything I use (d).

Concealer in pots now only available as Corrector. (I've swapped to the full cover one.)

Lipstick- one of the balmy types I loved in Ballet Pink gone, now not there at all.

Skin Foundation- just discontinued and replacement is a tinted moisturiser.

Blusher- all the pale peachy shades gone and now I use Nars.

Eyeshadows- all powder ones gone in neutral colours, now all glittery shiny or been replaced with the cream sticks (are fine, but very expensive.)

And the prices have shot up.

If you have moved to cheaper brands, what are you using?

Wait, the Kajal eyeliner is gone too?! I was actually planning to pick up a new one next time I was in John Lewis. Maybe it's finally time to get the VB one!?

The Skin Foundation departure has been a disaster. I'm using the tinted moisturiser and it's okay, but not like the Skin Foundation was. Mac does a really good alternative (recommended to me, on the quiet, by a woman at a Bobbi Brown counter during the period between discontinuing the Skin Foundation and launching the tinted moisturiser). But I haven't been able to get quite the right shade which I am hoping is my fault because I bought from my local boots with a mini selection rather than the full selection and an advisor. But the coverage is very very similar.

I like the Nars coverage too but it's too yellow and the same BB woman above said that it's a common complaint - so it's brilliant for people who need that warm/yellow undertone, but not for those of us who don't.

Maybelline and L'Oreal are often recommended by bloggers and beauty editors as a cheaper option.

I used to love Hard Candy, what happened to them,

French foundations run pink. Try Lancôme.,

I've just been on the Nars website looking for eyeshadow, they're all out of stock. Just weird.

Divebar2021 · 02/10/2023 23:02

I really like the Miracle Balm at Jones Road. Revolution have done a dupe which is super cheap but the consistency is more Vaseline like - ok for the money. JR do a good all purpose Cheek / lip colour which is nicer than Cliniques chubby stick. My go-to for a cheaper range than Bobbi Brown would be Glossier who have the same barely there aesthetic. I don’t have a counter near me but I did buy some bits when I was in the US this summer. For a full coverage foundation ( which I only use occasionally) I like Armani.

Divebar2021 · 02/10/2023 23:03

Laura Mercier are good for the eye shadow sticks but they’re probably the same price as BB.

Mystery2345 · 03/10/2023 08:09

I have several BB eyeshadow sticks all of which have "broken" ie the stick is disconnected from the pusher somehow. I don't travel much and am not hard on my products - anyone else have this issue?! the whole thing comes out at once if I am not careful

They are all gone, indeed! How strange.

But again, NARS is another brand that looks a little bit tired now. The endless Orgasm variations feel flat and overdone.

I find Charlotte Tilbury Flawless makes me look like I’m wearing a death mask yet the coverage is excellent for an all day event. Can anyone recommend a better CT foundation? Although I find her products ridiculously expensive, a little goes a long way.

Someone above mentioned Armani and reminded me that I used that for a long time but it’s even longer since I stopped using it and I had forgotten about it.

The other old reliable is MAC although the counter assistants never recommend anything that works for me. They have too many products imo and I don’t think 40+ is their target market.

Estée Lauder ran down all their products, you couldn't get anything for months. Then tada came out with all new products. The trouble is we lost our Debenhams so all our beauty counters trying something new without sampling at their prices was a no-no for me

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 03/10/2023 13:51

Was NARS in the Estée Lauder stable as well?

Ah, I see it's not. Le Labo is owned by Estée Lauder, I always thought they were independent.

IslandsInTheSunshine · 03/10/2023 15:06

I've actually got a tester of Clinique Even Better Serum foundation and quite like it.
Much heavier coverage than Skin Foundation but it certainly stays put.
Downside is even Breeze is just slightly too dark compared to Ivory in S F.

I have used Nars before. Gobi was too yellow, Mont Blanc too pink and didn't find a shade to match.

I have used Lancome years ago. I think their shade range is good but some of their foundations are full of alcohol and perfume.

Dior is a possibility - bought the revamped Glow last year and didn't like it so much.

If you're willing to spend, Chanel is great. I'm starting to think I might try it properly - th price of the Macs and the BBs has gone up and it's not feeling as crazy as before!

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 03/10/2023 15:34

Another option is Lisa Eldridge. Her foundation is medium coverage, lots of shades and undertones. She sells sample cards, and she also has a lovely counter at Liberty’s.

Brands often start up independently and EL or loreal etc buy them.

I really like cosmetics a la carte.
