Bobbi Brown - discontinued so many products

What's going on?

They are slowly discontinuing everything I use (d).

Concealer in pots now only available as Corrector. (I've swapped to the full cover one.)

Lipstick- one of the balmy types I loved in Ballet Pink gone, now not there at all.

Skin Foundation- just discontinued and replacement is a tinted moisturiser.

Blusher- all the pale peachy shades gone and now I use Nars.

Eyeshadows- all powder ones gone in neutral colours, now all glittery shiny or been replaced with the cream sticks (are fine, but very expensive.)

And the prices have shot up.

If you have moved to cheaper brands, what are you using?

I loved the kajal pencil but that seems to have gone too.

Purpleavocado · 01/10/2023 10:08

I saw that yesterday - I wanted some nice neutral shadows, but everything was pink toned. Really disappointed that they've gone down this route.

Yettisrus29 · 01/10/2023 11:34

I've been using the Skin Foundation for years so sad they've discontinued it and replaced it with a tinted moisturiser. I'm going to have to look for something else now and I've really sensitive skin so it's not easy.

I had the same issue with the pots of eyeshadows, they stopped them and the colours I used and now just the cream sticks which don't last as long and aren't the same colours.

It's been going down hill (and prices rising) since Bobbi left though.

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 01/10/2023 12:35

The have lost their way. Bobbi Brown left, they started chasing the Instagram looks, instead of the wearable look that's achievable for everyone with only a few products.

Jedstre · 01/10/2023 13:48

Yep my holy grail ‘nude’ lip gloss was Buff. Also discontinued.
I haven’t looked closely at Bobbi’s
‘Jones Road Beauty’ range but presumably there are some classics/neutrals in that range

theduchessofspork · 01/10/2023 16:58

They changed the formula of their extra eye cream a while ago and have been dead to me ever since

Have just discovered Laura Mercier’s caviar eye shadow pencils and v impressed if that’s any good to you. Caviar bizarre name though.

AliciaLime · 01/10/2023 17:02

I miss the Bobbi lipstick shade.

IslandsInTheSunshine · 01/10/2023 17:02

It's all disappointing.

I'm going to look at cheaper brands for everything except foundation.

Jones Road is the same price as BB and I'm just not paying £25 -ish for an eyeshadow any more.

When I first used BB eyeshadow it was about £17 and with a discount down to around £14.

I liked the range as it was promoted as 'ageless' yet now the pink toned shadows and the shimmery shades etc are for much younger people.

I use an eyeshadow palette from Beauty Pie, had it for years and surprisingly all colours but two are wearable and I also bought a couple of their cream shadow sticks.

Bought a single eye shadow from
Surratt a couple of years ago, its amazing quality, but will stick to just one and done.

AnxiousPangolin · 01/10/2023 20:49

I’ve now got the Beauty Pie gel eyeliner and while it’s great for the money, I loved the smokiness of the Bobbi Brown pencil.

TheMurderousGoose · 01/10/2023 20:52

It's Estee Lauder. They ruin so many companies they buy. Smashbox, Becca...

TheMurderousGoose · 01/10/2023 20:53

Kiko is a great underrated and cheaper brand.

Their liquid eyeliner is superb but you do need a steady hand!

Londoncatshed · 02/10/2023 07:00

Oh no. I’ve used the skin foundation for years. Coincidentally, I’ve just ordered the new Trinny foundation. Will see how it compares.

Blackandwhitemakesgrey · 02/10/2023 09:34

BB sold the business didn't she?
She started up Jones Road but the reviews are absolutely awful - I've seen it described as a sticky mess that should never have got as far as being manufactured and distributed!
Have you tried NARS? Their make up is very nice?

She was involved for years after she sold it, and then had a lengthy non-compete. Jones Road is ok but it’s very different to her original line.

amidsummernightsdream · 02/10/2023 15:17

Really miss the kajal eyeliner. Still not found one that has a comparable consistency and blend-ability. A shame.

I’m surprised about skin foundation, however I moved to armani a while back now, so maybe shouldn’t be

Stripeypyjamas · 02/10/2023 15:23

I bought the tinted moisturiser as wanted something light for zoom calls. It's ok but is full of rose so you can't wear it out unless you want people asking where you've secreted your Turkish delight

piscofrisco · 02/10/2023 15:32

Jones road is awful. Avoid!!

AliciaLime · 02/10/2023 17:23

I think Jones Road is just a bit marmite, you either love it, or hate it.

SoIinvictus · 02/10/2023 18:51

Agree with pp.

Bobbi Brown was known for quality, classic basics.

Now that BB herself has gone, the whole marketing focus has tipped towards very heavily made up women.

I used to follow the brand on Insta but stopped when I realised that each model was having the makeup trowelled on. Thick foundation, piles of bronzer, sticky lippy.

JR looks decent, and more like the old less is more BB stuff but not sure they're for me either.

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 02/10/2023 18:59

I quite like Jones Road, but I did like the old BB aesthetic, minimal foundation, smoky eye with minimum fuss and a good lipstick.

I've not tried their foundation, because the pencils do me just fine, and I love their new bronzer colours. Not too sure why the bronzer is less in quantity than the Miracle Balms, which I don't think I'll ever finish, but that's my only complaint.

Estée Lauder I liked their individual eyeshadows, they discontinued those and many more items. They're owned by a Chinese consortium now their HQ in NYC permanently closed a couple of years ago. I've changed to MAC individual eyeshadows but they're not as good density wise even with a wet brush.

SoIinvictus · 02/10/2023 19:52

Are those the paintpots from Mac @justasking111 ?
I alternate between them and Kiko eyeshadow creamy crayons which when warmed up, are just as good as the BB ones.
