I’ve just bought this. Give me your hacks please! Has anyone used this long term without going to the colourist in between?

I’m medium/dark blonde and can’t afford/ don’t have time to go to the hairdresser since having babies. I feel so drab and need a bit of lift and brightness. I used to have balayage/ dip dye before Covid.

It looks good @Doughnut100 😀 nice a bright, nice condition, well done

If that's the before then don't mess with it, it looks lovely 😊

YearsofYears · 28/09/2023 15:40

Wow your hair colour is lovely. I think you'd get good results with the shampoo. I have brown hair with natural blonde highlights and it really brightens it.

Fistralstorm · 28/09/2023 15:44

Oh I love this stuff!! I use the spray. It's the only time I ever use a hairdryer so my hair doesn't go dry.

It makes my hair look lovely and bright. And never brassy - but then I have a good purple hair mask

(I only use it around the front like money pieces)

Fistralstorm · 28/09/2023 15:47

I also use the spray on the bits in front of my ears.

It does keep things "fresh" between highlights.

My hair is very very thick and wavy.

I love it 😆

My friend who is a hairdresser said my hair had never been so damaged as it was after using the spray. Had to let it grow out.

The exact same thing happened to me, the ends were literally melted off after I straightened it!

Doughnut100 · 28/09/2023 16:35

Thank you for saying it’s lovely! What an unexpected confidence boost, I should do this more often 😂

But actually looking at those pictures I’m sure they are overly flattering. They are in daylight in the bathroom window. I took this photo the other day in the bedroom with less natural light and it looks much more dull. I feel like this is more accurate but maybe it’s just because I look in mirrors indoors more.

I’m definitely doing it though! Fully ready to be back with regrets but for some reason I’m set on trying to unfrump myself this way.

That's what I've seen, like it melted then snapped near the root, if not immediately then soon after. The person with the more robust (straight, thick, tendency to greasy) hair just had orangey streaks.

I don't think OP's hair type looks like it might be great for this sort of thing. I'll be interested in seeing the after pictures though.

Bemyclementine · 28/09/2023 17:28

Following with interest. I've always coloured my hair a darker brown, but getting older and more grey, I've left it, abdcwas going to try this to help the natural highlights along!

TemporarilyshyAF · 28/09/2023 17:28

I've never used the spray but just to chip in, in case you were thinking of using the JF go blonder shampoo and conditioner, they're drying as hell.

liveforsummer · 28/09/2023 17:57

Following with interest 👀. I used sun in for years and my hair was a gorgeous colour. I had a knack and had to apply twice to get through the orange stage and only did the roots so it wasn't fried. Now my hair is shocking for similar reasons that I cannot afford hairdressers. Attempted a whole head bleach in June which was ok but took more at the root but was ok with toner. Now I'm left with solid roots nearly to my ears and inside what to do next 😬

Doughnut100 · 28/09/2023 21:04

I have done the deed. I think it’s great, but the jury is out until the morning when I can see it properly. DP says it looks good ha. It was the quickest process and yep I can feel the difference to my hair but that’s fine, I prefer it coarser. I have a photo but I’m in a different room with artificial light so it’s not a good comparison. But I’ll post it now anyway, and then I’ll do another in the morning with natural light.

Made my hair a decent blonder colour (from dirty blonde to bright) but absolutely frazzled it!

arabellaL · 28/09/2023 21:08

The positive reviews aren't a surprise - it will amaze you and you'll be thrilled short term but two months later your hair will be sticking up short and broken all over the gaff 😂

Doughnut100 · 28/09/2023 21:34

@arabellaL Yeah that is my issue with a lot of reviews, like I don’t want to know how it is right away, I want to know six months down the line! Oh dear, another one saying it’ll frazzle 😬

I watched all the YouTube videos and my favourites were the official one where the stylist guy mansplains to the model how to put her hair in the most complicated of updos, a ponytail. Then the one where the woman keeps spraying more and more and more and more on while she’s drying and straightening it, so she’s done about six applications in one go, straight onto her scalp and then she went scabby. There’s another good one where the woman is out of focus the entire time but her towel rail in the background is crisp.

However there are also a bunch of YouTube videos of women who have used it long term and like it and their hair hasn’t fried. So I’m going with my confirmation bias. I avoided my scalp, I’ll see how it is in the morning, tone it if I need, and wait a while if I want to go for another round, then use it sparingly and not too often. What’s the worst that could happen - DP is too tired to leave me now that we have kids, he does the toddler’s night wakings 😂

Turns out it’s basically impossible to get a good before and after photo with an iPhone. I think it looks lighter in the before photo! It’s definitely very subtle and I like it. I’ll do another dose soon. I washed my hair this morning and the condition is barely any different to how it was before once the product is gone and it’s conditioned.

Just wanted to come back to this thread to say I swear by this stuff now! It makes your hair a bit more coarse but so does any lightening I think. It's so easy and quick and I've saved hundreds in hairdresser costs. Nobody even believes I have bleach in my hair, it looks natural. Just brightens me up from looking dull. It interacts with all the different tones in my hair so it doesn't look like one block colour. I guess it must have very different results on different hair tones because lots of people say it's awful but it's perfect for me! I will say I don't do it often. And I don't do it five times in one week like I think some of the instruction videos say! I just whack it on all over and then use hairdryer and straighteners. My advice is wait a long time between applications. And only use if you are naturally dark blonde.
