Who sells great jeans for short arses?

I am 5ft and am a size 12 and have always had a nightmare finding jeans that fit properly.
I have a small-ish waist and shapely thighs (see photo on profile of me sitting with ds on wooden horse). They either seem to fit my thighs and gape around my waist or fit my waist and are too tight across my thighs.
Does anybody know where i can buy a pair of jeans-pref dark blue that are for my height and shape????

Like you I am a shortarse (5 foot 1) and have a small waist and heavier thighs.

I like my Next jeans like these, I don't do hipsters and find the high-rise ones fit really well.

Hulababy · 04/03/2008 21:25

I got some nice fitting ones from Monsoon.

RipMacWinkle · 04/03/2008 21:28

Recently my sister and I (both 5 feet) have been loving Dorothy Perkins.

Nice colours and good length.

Hulababy - am wanting to try Monsoon jeans..... glad you rec'd them

saadia · 04/03/2008 21:29

I ordered some jeans from the Monsoon Petite range and they arrived today and are pretty nice, but not dark, which is what I wanted as well but they didn't have any on the website. Next ones are usually OK. It might also be worth buying a pair you like in a regular fit and have them shortened at a dry cleaners, if you can't find any in the right length.

Mercy · 04/03/2008 21:32

I always end up with jeans from DP.

What is your leg length though? I'm about 27".

nobodysfool · 04/03/2008 21:33

SIDGE- they look great,i know what you mean about the hipsters not fitting very well.I have got a pair from Next but the dye keeps coming out of them when i'm wearing them.Blue legs-not a sexy look eh?

HULABABY- I LOVE Monsoon anyway so i will have a look in there. Are the any particular cuts that work better with bigger thighs?

RIPMAC- HHMMM.DP's will have a nose at them.Do they do a wide leg pair?

geordiemacminx · 04/03/2008 21:34

dp's for me too. At £20-£25 a pair they are great value and they always seem to have short length in most sizes and styles

RipMacWinkle · 04/03/2008 21:37

NF - think they do a range. I avoid the skinny flares etc but I find their bootcut are v flattering....

Plus you can sometimes find some in the sales (altho often their sale stuff is size 4 - £15 a pop. Can't knock it....

nobodysfool · 04/03/2008 21:37

SAADIA- Think i will pop into Monsoon to try some on.I really want a dark pair-trying to minimize that area!

MERCY- 28" fits perfectly.New Look used to do the best fitting jeans but the gits stopped doing them. Not to many of us umperlumpers around.

RIPMAC - Size 4!!!!!!!!My ankle is a size 4!!

Do you have a T K MAXX near you? It's always worth trawling through all the brands, and MAXX at least affords you the option.

Good old Levi Strauss are pretty good at offering different leg lengths, but I'm not sure about thighs.

nobodysfool · 04/03/2008 21:40

Desiderta - hadn't even thought of tk maxx.
Certainly worth a try in there.Have never thought of Levi's as i thought they were only for slim/boyish shapes.

OP posts:
RipMacWinkle · 04/03/2008 21:41

Aye I concur. Was in DP at Glasgow Fort last week (sale stuff was all BOGOF!) but i couldn't believe all the size 4!!!

nobodysfool · 04/03/2008 21:43

I think size 4's should come with a free Mars bar to fatten them up!

OP posts:
Mercy · 04/03/2008 21:43

Send the size 6 or 4's to me please!

lackaDAISYcal · 04/03/2008 21:43

I recently got a really nice pair of boyfriend fit jeans in Sainsbury's which are roomy in the thigh department, and made of very soft denim. They tend to do short leg length in all their ranges as well.

they were only £18 too so a bargain

nobodysfool · 04/03/2008 21:47

LaCKDAISY- I tend to find that mens come up massive round my waist. Will have a look in Sainsburys in the morning though.

MERCY - No offence about the Mars bar i hope.I'm just

Mercy · 04/03/2008 21:50

don't be daft, I'm not remotely offended!

We short arses must remain united no matter what size we are!

nobodysfool · 04/03/2008 21:55

Phew!

Levi's cater for all, but you have to know where to look.

T K MAXX depresses some people because it resembles a jumble sale. Personally, I like a good jumble

However, the jeans are kept separate and they go up to Size 22 (and more).

Let's face it. A good pair of jeans will last you for years. Don't chase the budget option if you can get a cool pair for £25 at T K MAXX, and the cool pair will last you a decade or more.

lackaDAISYcal · 04/03/2008 22:06

they're ladies jeans, just in a more generous fit

nobodysfool · 04/03/2008 22:09

Desiderta- i to love a good jumble sale shop.I don't mind paying decent money for a pair as long as they fit.

RosJ · 04/03/2008 22:19

Don't get me started.... I'm a similar shape, and although I've lost weight recently, I still can't find anything to fit. Size twelve is now too big round the waist, and tends to have a baggy bit at the front that looks like it should contain a "lunchbox", but there is no way a ten is fitting over my thighs. I didnt wear jeans for years, but a few years ago I started wearing Levis bootcut ones-they are good for different leg length as someone else says, and their ones for women do actually fit properly-they tend to be low rise though, so you have to be careful not to show too much "cleavage"...
I got some good ones from New Look recently-straight leg but not "skinny" (Oh no). Uniqlo have some good looking ones-v. comfortable with a bit of stretch, and I got some black jeans from Miss Selfridge recently which actually fit. Good luck!

nobodysfool · 04/03/2008 22:24

Thanks ROSJ isn't it a mare finding them.
Sounds like we have the same problem.I spend most of my time pulling them up around my waist but like you a size 10 would go nowhere near my thighs.
I like boot cut as i think the slim legs make me look too top heavy.
What fun us sa's have finding clothes that fit and god forbid you may have boobs, bum and a arse!

OP posts:
Desiderata · 04/03/2008 22:29

But don't undervalue a good, slick, leather belt, either.

I've seen short-legged women wearing jeans that fit on the leg but not on the waist. With the right jeans, if you can gather it with a good belt, the effect can look really good. In fact, because the material is slightly puckered at front and back, the effect is slimming.

Never be shy of aiming for a bigger waist size if the leg is right.
