Football mother who's sick of freezing....Warm, waterproof, weatherproof coat

BlairWaldorfOG · 17/09/2023 12:20

As the title says really. I need something to stop me getting soaked and freezing whilst watching my children's matches...
Budget £200 but ideally less and any bargains appreciated.

Nothing petite as I'm 5ft8, and a size 12. Thanks 😊

Random suggestion but I wear my dryrobe over my normal coat for watching football and dog training and it’s brilliant. I have one as we do a lot of camping/surfing but it is the most fantastic warm and waterproof thing with a huge hood that doesn’t shift no matter how windy it is. I am 6’1 so always struggle to get the right kit to fit so it’s really handy

Lentilweaver · 17/09/2023 12:26

Didrikson coats. You will probably find some on sale.

MaybeSeven · 17/09/2023 12:32

Agree Didriksons is a good shout, but also ( in case you are new to this) it's worth knowing that the clothes/underclothes etc you wear under the coat are just as important as the coat itself - doing effective layering is absolutely key to staying cosy.

MagpiePi · 17/09/2023 12:39

I spent many years on rugby touchlines which all seem to be twinned with the Russian Steppes in winter.

I used to wear a long waterproof coat from lighthouse and wear a north face / Rab / down jacket underneath. Also merino wool base layers, thermal socks, gloves, buff, hat, waterproof walking boots, etc etc etc.
Ski trousers are a godsend.

I never competed with all the yummy mummies in their designer label gear, but I was warm and dry!

Marmot Chelsea coat. I bought mine for a trip to Iceland and it's great for winter dog walks also!

NeunundneunzigHorseBallonz · 17/09/2023 13:39

I think the coat is a great start, but would also recommend that you get a heated vest and/or shoe inserts. You can buy them from Amazon or Ali Express, and if you have a couple of decent power banks, should last most of the day.

fiorentina · 17/09/2023 13:46

I have a Rains puffer that I got in Selfridges sale. I also wear Uniqlo heat tech top, leggings and socks when it’s v cold.

caerdydd12 · 17/09/2023 13:50

North Face Arctic parka.. it was a bit more expensive than your budget when I bought it but that was a few years ago now so I'm sure it's probably come down in price since then. It really is like being wrapped in a duvet.

seathewayahead · 17/09/2023 13:52

You need good boots. I was a volunteer in a car park marshalling people coming for vaccines over the winter in wet and windy location and I wore sorel ski boots (and often my ski trousers too). Having warm feet makes all the difference. Also hand warmers!

Seasalt.

Roundaboot · 17/09/2023 14:14

I have a long down Landsend coat that I bought when DS started playing football at 5 years old and is still going strong when he's approaching his 16th birthday!
It's totally water and windproof.
I strongly agree with others about layers though. I usually do thermal vest + long sleeve cotton shirt + wool jumper on top and cotton socks + wool socks + boots on the lower half with sheepskin gloves.

Almahart · 17/09/2023 14:28

Dryrobe. Not glamorous but omg it is a total gamechanger. Warm, windproof, waterproof and huge.

WaitingForSunnyDays · 17/09/2023 14:36

In your situation I'd also be buying one of those popup weather shelters, and ignore anyone who thinks they look ridiculous while enjoying my little waterproof, windproof pod!

Pebblesontheside · 17/09/2023 14:39

Buy dc a kart instead, and watch them from a nice warm motorhome or clubhouse! 🤣

I have zero need for one of these but having googled... I really want one!

Lots on here. I just bought one for £7!

BlairWaldorfOG · 17/09/2023 15:26

@WaitingForSunnyDays They're still at the age where they're rotating around pitches or trust me I'd be in the pot with a nice flask of coffee 😂

Thanks for all of the suggestions lots of experienced touchline mothers on here, I appreciate it!

Thermal top and leggings are also really good in winter+heated hand warmers. Nothing like watching kids get hot and sweaty while you freeze.

dudsville · 17/09/2023 15:30

Googke for any shops with a sale on North Face parkas. I bought a size up for roomyness and paid about £200, maybe up to £250.

dudsville · 17/09/2023 15:31

Forgot to say, they're absolutely water proof and terrifically warm.
